A few things:

-The ending of sabu/mysterio was a good call. Both men finish strong in the eyes of the fans, no one loses ground.

-The tag match was sick....easily the nastiest hardcore match I have seen. I wouldn't be surprised if Funk lost sight in that eye.

-Was a little let down with the Tanaka match, but that was a hell of a chair shot.

-Angle fits with ECW like a custom glove....that crowd embraced the hell out of him.

-Big Show was a beast....and that back-breaker into the Million Dollar Dream was sick.

-With the Edge interferance, I would not be surprised if Vince sends him to Smackdown somehow. Possibly, if he doesn't beat Cena at Vengence, he is fired. But I expect a windfall from Vince for losing the title from Raw....

-Cena handled the Heat like a true champ. Throwing the shirt out to the crowd constantly was a great touch....and he seemed to embrace the heat towards the end.

-Andf finally, I'm glad to see RVD finally hold a world title. CONGRATS.

I haven't seen that sort of crowd reaction to someone in a long time...I thought the split crowd at SummerSlam for Cena and Y2J was something, especially seeing it firsthand in the building, but that shit tonight was crazy.

Too bad I missed Smackdown(long time since anyone said that) where Tazz left, would've liked to have seen what happened between he and Cole(someone please tell me Cole got bitch slapped?). Not sure how he and JBL will work together either, but I do like the idea of JBL announcing.

I hope Smackdown gets some much needed carry over from all of this as well, but it's truly amazing what one good-great PPV really does overall, isn't it?

As expected, this crowd was truly something else tonight. They helped make the night for sure.

I'm reading a lot of negative press regarding the ECW PPV and the ECW TV return for this upcoming week...

Many seem to think that ECW is destined to fail...and that this PPV is gonna stink...

I think we can safely say that the people in the first part of your statement were proven 100 percent wrong.

The jury is still out on the second part, obviously, but with a strong kick in the ass start like this...there's really no excuses for the rest of that statement coming to pass as long as Vince lets Paul and his crew do their thing.

PPV = aced. ECW as a whole? Off to a strong start. Take the ball and run with it.

Seriously: Hurry up and post Cav!

Very good show. Sorry I didn't make it over Sand, but I'm glad you dug it and I hope Ol' WH got to watch at least some of it.

This is a case of great booking in the matter of both title matches. Rey didn't need to lose--he's lost enough lately--but Sabu needed to come off as the crazy motherfucker that he truly is, and he did just that. Good finish, and eventhough nobody likes a damn draw, the crowd applauded both men afterwards if you noticed.

Cena/Van Dam was surreal. There was no way in hell you could let Cena leave as champion, I don't care if it's RAW or whatever. Just a well done finish with Edge's involvement and Heyman counting Cena's shoulders down - poetic justice since Cena flattened the ECW referee earlier.

Even when they find a way to strip Van Dam of the title or whatever, it won't matter now. They've set things up where they can go a number of ways..... Van Dam can throw the title down tomorrow night and Heyman can present him with the "new" ECW Championship either then, or plug it for Tuesday night's debut show.

Meanwhile, Cena and Edge can renew their feud on RAW to determine who the new WWE Champion will be....

Tazz/Lawler--Would have been nice to see Lawler get suplexed once or twice on his head, but Q's right in that it was short and sweet. Lawler sucks.......

Orton/Angle--Seemed a little off timing-wise to me early on, but worked out just fine. Nice mat-based match, as you can see they're really working to further put Angle over as an unstoppable shooter (as if any of us need to be sold any further). The main thing here is how the ECW crowd really embraced Angle and was fully behind him, which must vindicate Heyman, Vince and Co. on making the decision to send Angle to ECW and silence the naysayers.

FBI/Crazy & Tajiri--Nice tag team action. Only thing I was looking for that we didn't get was the moonsault press from the high balcony by Crazy, but oh well.

Afterwards, Big Show comes out to what seems like a mixed reaction initially, but then the crowd is fully behind him in the end after he cleans house and fucks Mamaluke up with the backbreaker/sleeper combo. More good news, that the other new ECW Wrestler gained favor with the fans.

Sabu/Mysterio--Thoughts above on the finish, and the match itself did not disappoint.

Foley, Edge & Lita/Dreamer, Funk & Beulah--Wild hardcore brawl that had a little bit of everything, which equals SUCCESS.

Balls/Tanaka--Solid for what it was; only issue is how a single chairshot to the head would do Tanaka in when we've seen him kick out after being damn-near decapitated by Mike Awesome.

RVD/Cena--Comments on finish above; very good main event with a shitload of energy and atmosphere. I was pleased....

Like I said, damn good show. The wrestling, overall, may have been a notch below last year's, but the overall package, including the booking, makes this once again the year's most entertaining pay-per-view as last year's was.

I'm sure the TNA marks will claim this show sucked and that Shane Douglas can/has booked a better one.

To add a small bit to Cav's thoughts about comparisoning last year and this year, I thought the emotion was better last year(just barely), but yes, this year had more energy as well as the good booking.

CMV1 PPV Review: ECW One Night Stand 2006

Taz vs. Jerry Lawler- short, sweet, and exactly what it needed to be. Not much else to say about that...just glad that Heyman booked it to be so short...5/10

Kurt Angle vs. Randy Orton- disappointing match-up in the early going and it never really clicked to be honest with you. Orton showed some ring rust and these two didn't work nearly as well together as they did two months ago. Timing, as Cav said, was the biggest issue. It still turned out to be a solid match, though, with a few nice near falls near the end. Still, not enough to make up for a sluggish start, though. In ECW, I expect a faster pace. 7.5

FBI vs. Tajiri and Crazy- a very exciting tag team match with some impressive individual performances. Interestingly enough, the match got sloppy when the tag team wrestling started kicking in. Still, seeing a random tag match get 13 minutes to develop into something was a sight to see...and it turned out well for these four. 7.5

WHC Rey Mysterio vs. Sabu- it was well on its way to being the match of the night before the finish left a bad taste in my mouth. Granted, that's exactly what needed to happen to protect both and it was quite a finishing spot, but I can't help but take points off for a non-finish in front of such a hot crowd. They worked well togehter and hit more spots than people likely expected them to be able to at their ages and conditions. 7.5

Mick Foley and Edge vs. Tommy Dreamer and Terry Funk- This one exceeded my expectations, as Funk worked better than I expected him to. He was still damn slow, but Foley and Edge sold it well enough to make it credible. Under-rated in his performance, imo, was Tommy Dreamer, who looked great and should be a big time player for the new ECW. There were some sick spots in this match...Just a must-see for that alone...topped off, of course, by Foley being caught on fire and breaking the barbed-wire laced board. Funk is still a crazy SOB...Hats off to all involved...8

Balls Mahoney vs. Masato Tanaka- The one true filler match of the night that could've been given more time in place of JBL announcing his new position on SD. Decent while it lasted, but too short and too weak a finish to live up to decent expectations. 6

WWE Champ John Cena vs. RVD- good match that was carried by the crowd and by the fact that RVD bumped like a mad man for Cena. No, he didn't take any huge spots, but he had an extra bounce in his bumps much like HBK did last summer for Hulk Hogan...and I was extremely impressed. I wasn't a fan of the finish, but I expected something like that to happen and am still very happy to see RVD as the champion...he deserves it. The crowd was wild...wild...wild...and hearing them was truly something to get excited about. 8

Intangibles

-Heyman's opening promo was a great way to kick off the show. [+0.5]

-Big Show's re-established dominance and use of a new move that really got the crowd behind him. [+0.5]

-Eugene being used as the springboard to get Sandman on the show. [-0.5]

-Dusty finishes to both championship matches (didn't sit well with me) [-0.5]

-THE CROWD [+1.0]

ECW ONS II's Final Score - 49.5/70 + 1.0 = 72 (making ONS II the top rated PPV of the year by my scale, slightly ahead of No Way Out)

Good stuff by Cav and Chad.

Sandman: I'm sure I can think of a few people at a certain forum or two that would fit your description of "pathetic TNA marks"... but unless you REALLY just hate anything remotely like ECW AT ALL...I just don't see how someone who's a wrestling fan in general couldn't have enjoyed themselves last night.

I would question whether those people like pro wrestling at all.

Notable people that were missing that I wish had been there last night:

Chris Benoit, Chris Jericho, Lance Storm, Mike Awesome, The Dudley Boyz (I predict they're going to show up some day in the near future, somehow), and of course...Eddie Guerrero.

If this ECW thing is handled well and keeps rolling forward and proving naysayers wrong and Vince stays hands off?... I think it's going to spell that much more doom for TNA, because a lot of those guys, like the aforementioned Dudleys, will be looking for a way to get back to the closest thing resembling "home" that they possibly can.

Face it: A Vince backed, Heyman run ECW OWNS just about anything else out there...especially TNA. It's not even close.

Don't think the Dudleys and a bunch of other guys weren't watching this thing last night and just thinking a few things to themselves. Don't think there hasn't probably been some whispers, some mutterings, and the rest of it.

I know it would be pretty difficult on a number of levels, but how cool would it have been if the Dudleys, for example, had pulled a mid 90's Scott Hall and Kevin Nash and had just showed up, contracts be damned?

I agree with that review Chad, easily.

Great show, overall. Like Q's crew, the folks I watched it with were very into the whole thing, especially the Funk/Dreamer vs Foley/Edge tag match, which was of course sick as hell.

I'm already reading a lot of folks ragging on the event, saying it wasn't an ECW event but rather a WWE event. What part of NEW ECW don't people get? A much better PPV than several of ECW's final PPV's. The day some of these "fans" (read TNA marks) quit comparing it to ECW 1997, and grasp the concept of "New Breed", the better off we'll all be.

Hope Sabu is alright, he did seem to be favoring his shoulder, which he broke or seperated back in April, two days before facing Samoa Joe in a cage. Either way, I'm fine with the decision there, Sabu damn sure didn't need to lose that match.

The crowd was awesome. The TNA crowd think they're something by ripping off ECW to the point where some TNA fans think they invented certain chants. Nice to hear the ECW crowd doing their classic, signature chants... and the ones TNA won't do. "Orton Swallows" - classic.

Nice use of JBL. He's a much better choice than Simon Dean.

Nice WWE Title match. No doubt we'll get some shitstorm to reverse the decision or strip RVD of the title. We'll probably get a tired ass "Heyman isn't a ref, it doesn't count" shit. The way I see it, Heyman is basically the GM of the ECW brand, and it was an ECW brand show. Heyman counting the three is something we've seen Bischoff do plenty of times before, so I hope they come up with something better than that to get the title off Van Dam.

Great show, glad I spent $10 on it.

So far, from both WWE and TNA, it's the PPV of the Year that I have watched.

Looking forward to RAW and the debut of ECW on SCI-FI.

I don't know how much more hardcore it can get.

I'm very pleased that Angle and Big Show were embraced by the fans, but technically, the Angle vs. Orton match was a mistake. Orton just wasn't ready on any number of levels and, like I said last night: The fans let him have it for all the things that a lot of us don't like Orton for: The reliance on the same handful of moves, the tons of rest holds...the boring chants were apt and well deserved. The ring rust just made it that much worse.

I wish Angle could have been given a better opponent, possibly a "real" ECW guy or something like that.

Oh well...Angle's time is coming. It's going to be a blast to watch him every week.

I really hope Benoit comes back and joins up with this.

Agreed.

After watching that match between Sabu and Rey: For sure, Rey needs to join ECW.

I haven't seen Rey cut loose like that in God knows how long and it was damned nice to see it.

All you're going to see today is bitter spite and jealousy from TNA marks and basement dwellers that KNOW in their hearts a serious threat looms on the horizon.

There's never been much doubt, but believe me: In very short order, if ECW rolls forward and well...TNA's days are truly numbered and are short.

And these marks and basement dwellers KNOW it.

Agreed, although Simon Dean needs to be back in ECW right away.

Probably, but I hope it's handled in a more compelling manner than Vince simply coming out on RAW tonight, chewing someone out, and pulling out a belt and calling it a day.

I, for one, want to see a real belt. I'm long since tired of Cena's ghetto belt.

Agreed 100 percent. I hope SD gets some rub off of this as well.

INTANGIBLES:

Fun, excitement, sense of energy, HEART, dynamics, swerves, laughs...you name it: This thing had it all in boat loads.

It was FUN!

I honestly can't remember ANY wrestling PPV I've seen since maybe last year's ONS that matches this for all of these intangibles.

Whatever "lack of polish" some people nitpick about, this PPV more than made up for that with the above intangibles, which are what are the most important things of all.

Remember? This stuff is supposed to be FUN!

Nothing like chants of "You Can't Wrestle!" and "Same Old Shit!!!!" to laugh your ass off at.

I need someone to make me an avatar or something of that sign that said "If Cena Wins We Riot!" That shit was awesome.
