I'll stick up for X's girl a little...Lita was a heat machine in 2005 with that whole Matt Hardy angle... Putting them together was smart at the time, but they dragged it on for far too long... |

That's fair enough. After that angle was done, though, they should have parted ways VERY shortly thereafter. |

So a Mania headlined by HBK-Cena, Taker-Batista, Orton-Edge (remember when Angle and Trips wrestled as two heels in 2001...they did it...why not Edge-Orton?)... That's not bad at all... |

The prospect of Orton/Edge in a regular match does nothing for me. Both of them as regular workers have styles that I find to be slightly boring, BUT, they've both shown time and time again when put into gimmick matches like TLC, Streetfights, Cage matches, etc that they can do awesome wonders. So that'd be my recommendation for any Orton/Edge confrontation, since all do respect to both guys, neither one of them rank up there with Trips and Angle in the ring, and that particular angle was helped alot by the great love triangle between HHH, Angle, and Steph... Which may have been one of the top five best written things in WWE history, until they just quit on it, with no explanation at all, which was without a doubt one of the top five dumbest decisions in WWE history, right up there with the InGAYsion storyline and Katie Vick. HBK has been working wonders these past few week's since HHH's injury, I hate to say it, but HHH being gone is probably the best thing that could've happened for Raw currently. His presence as the jokey DX guy was suffocating heat, but ever since he left, HBK has been drawing it all back in, in spades. Mania could go either way at this point depending on whether the things that should happen do happen, but I'm at least casually intreuged by what might go down now. |

One thing everyone seems to be forgetting is: These guys have already feuded before. When Edge first came back from his injury, he was still a face and he feuded with Orton. So this isn't something new or fresh by any means. So if it has to happen again, yes, it needs to be something special.
Agreed 100 percent. There's no way to get around it: A WrestleMania without HHH, Angle, Jericho, Guerrero, and yes, even after all this time: Rock, Austin, etc. is lacking.
I think you're right, although I've had no complaints about HHH once we got past the 2003 era where he basically was everything. HBK is essentially playing Superman at this point and he literally can do no wrong. I know you've suggested a heel turn for him, but guess what? The fans aren't going to let it happen. When he turned "heel" the last time to go against Hogan? It was great stuff because he was telling the truth anyways. Everyone was still cheering for him anyways. Taker, HBK, and a handful of other guys simply will not be "allowed" by the fans to be heels. And that's fine. HBK obviously doesn't need to turn heel to make something big happen. All he has to do is so show up, pretty much. HBK vs. Vince leading up to last year's WM was gold. I hate to say it, but HHH was kind of holding HBK down a little bit since DX reformed. Yeah, DX has been funny, it's had its ups and downs (the July 4 skit was atrocious and crude), and basically they can get right back to HBK doing his thing and setting him up as a leader of sorts against what I hope is a growing Rated RKO threat and heel stable. I totally think that Edge and Orton together has some mileage, especially if you put some young guys with them like Dykstra and this other new guy they think will be treated like "Diesel." I forgot this guy's name. Snow suggested this earlier in the thread and I think it's a great idea. We're long overdue to have some real stables again, face and heel.
Same here. |

Well, I think the one thing at this point that makes Mania 23 look pretty good is the top two matches. If we're in for HBK-Cena (or a fatal fourway w/ Edge and Orton, too, which I wouldn't rule out) and Taker-Batista, I think those will be the best main-event combos we've seen since Mania XX. Starting at the top with those two main-events is a damn good start. I don't think Batista-Taker is going to be a great match, but Taker and Bats ought to be able to have a fairly strong match. They can't make that a long match, though...for once, the fact that the SD main-event gets jipped on time will actually help. HBK vs. Cena is a mega match in my eyes. I've wanted to see that since HBK's aforementioned heel turn on Hogan. I wrote a column about it on LOP... Orton-Edge had a very good match back in 2004, by the way. It is fresh...it may not be new. They were both mid-carders back then. Now, both are former World Champions and top heels. Edge is the best heel in the biz. Orton is 3 years older and (arguably) better. If they book them in a singles match, which it looks like they might do, then they can both stay heel. My suggestion for how to map out that feud would be for them to stay as a team and go after John Cena. W/ no PPV to build for in Feb/March, Edge and Orton could team up to try and capture the WWE Championship. HBK, the Rumble winner, can align with Cena. As Edge and Orton try to take the title and get into the Mania main-event, they can play up the tension and build to the eventual split. The fans will cheer who they want to cheer. The interesting thought is...with HBK, Taker, Batista, Cena, Edge, and Orton (arguably the top 6 active and currently pushed performers) all tied up in those three matches, where does everyone else go? |

That's a good question. The rosters and current storylines all offer up some interesting options though. Not to mention your annual MITB ladder match, which I'd hate to see discontinued. So all in all, with those three main events, plus all the other notable titles being defended, the MITB, and whatever storyline centered things currently going (Hardys and MNM, Flair and Dysktra etc..) I'm sure something can be done. |

here are some possible ideas I have thought about... you still have the ECW World Title so I would go with something like this... ECW World Title Bobby Lashley vs. Test vs. RVD vs. Sabu -I know it sounds crazy but these are the top four guys minus Punk...maybe they can deliver, maybe they can't ECW TV Title Finals: CM Punk vs. Kevin Thorne The way they are pushing Thorne it would be a fresh pairing in ECW and Punk could use the gold around his waist. MITB United States Title Match Chris Benoit vs. MVP I know MVP isn't that great now, but their's not really an opponent that Benoit can't make look good. Kennedy vs. Kane After Kennedy ends his feud at NWO with Taker, Teddy Long could initiate this feud and they could have a gimmick match at Mania. Also involved at the show will be Stone Cold in some way as well as: Hulk Hogan Mick Foley Chris Jericho (possibly) JBL (cause he has always talked about coming back and having matches on big enough cards, so he can be used at Mania as a special attraction) I'm sure they could talk Big Show back into coming back as a name just to give the fans. So there's lots of possibilities for the card, those are just some ideas I had for the rest of the card |

The Taker-Batista feud is shaping up nice and slow... I love how they've Batista piss off Taker, then had Taker stare down both kennedy and Batista while in the ring. Then this week, they had Taker piss off Batista, and they did the same camera angle, this time showing Batista in the ring staring down Kennedy and Taker... Good stuff! |

Well, coming out of the Rumble, I've seen some rumors pop up that suggest that we'll see Orton vs. Edge vs. Cena and HBK vs. King Booker... At first glance, I hated it because HBK isn't main-eventing, but upon a second thought I decided it was actually a very good iea. First of all, it gets the guy who truly deserves to main-event into the title match...and that's Edge. Edge was MVP in 2006 and he's off to a pretty damn good start in '07... Second of all, that's going to be a helluva triple threat match with two good stories (or three) going all at once. HBK can then be used to have a good match against Booker. Booker also deserves a prominent role, and he and Michaels ought to be able to pull off a helluva match and feud. Frankly, those three matches stack up to a better overall card than HBK-Cena, Orton-Edge, and Batista-Taker... |

Booker vs. HBK really doesn't do anything for me. I just felt the let-down even writing that. Booker T is not a main eventer. This King Booker gimmick is terrible. If Benoit is floundering in the midcard, then how the hell is Booker T ahead of him on any card, anywhere? It doesn't make any sense. Here's what I wrote in the Rumble thread: I figured it was either going to be HBK or Taker winning it and I like the fact that they were the last two guys. So since Taker won, he has his choice to face whomever he wants at Mania for the title. So...does he go after Batista and stay on SD? (Most likely) or does he bolt to RAW? I still think they'd be fools to not go with Cena-HBK and Batista-Taker in a gimmick match (please!) to headline WM. After that you need at least 1-2 compelling interpromotional matches, especially since you have a third brand now, and work your way down from there. Footnote: One just has to wonder when the outright mutiny against Khali is going to happen in that lockerrom. He's product killer in the worst form possible. Idiots: Khali, Umaga, MVP, and The Miz do not replace the likes of a Chris Jericho, Kurt Angle, HHH, and Eddie Guerrero! Age or not, HBK and Taker are arguably still the best overall talent and biggest stars on the current, active roster. At this rate, I'm all for either one of them, or both, winning their respective shows' titles for one final swan song before one or both of them retires. Why the hell not? Cena has had that belt forever despite a brief and obligatory Edge breakup and Batista? His 15 minutes of fame have to be up soon, if not already depending on who you talk to. Why not have the 5 star vets a glory run out of WrestleMania? You could sure as hell do worse. I just wonder if the fans are going to settle and buy watching Batista and Cena both walk out of WrestleMania as winners with the belts yet again, especially if they go against the likes of Taker and HBK? I can't say I would. |

Wrestlemania 23 World Heavyweight Champion Batista vs. Undertaker - Pretty much signed and sealed at this point, but will it deliver? WWE Champion John Cena vs. Randy Orton vs. Edge OR WWE Champion John Cena vs. Shawn Michaels - My favorite wrestler of all-time is HBK and I'd love to see him get a title shot, but my favorite wrestler of today is Edge, and no one deserves to be in a Mania title match more than he does. Either way they go, here, I think it'll be a very good match. Randy Orton vs. Edge OR HBK vs. King Booker - Again, I think both would be strong matches, but my only gripe would be the rumored involvement of Trump and McMahon. Keep them out and put their old asses in the Hogan match and I'm much more interested in that interbrand feud. Hulk Hogan vs. Shane McMahon - They are pushing for this match according to rumors. I'd personally prefer it over all other matches, as Khali is too bad to be given a match and Umaga doesn't deserve to get squashed by Hogan. Hogan, with Donald Trump in his corner, taking on Shane, with Vince and Khali in his corner, would be entertaining and storyline driven. It'd be passable since I'm sure the booking would make it so...Get all crap gone in one match... Money in the Bank Ladder Match- Matt Hardy vs. Chris Benoit vs. Mr. Kennedy vs. Johnny Nitro vs. Jeff Hardy vs. Carlito - I would love to see Kennedy vs. Chris Jericho, but I don't guess that has too much chance of happening. After Kennedy's performance against Batista, I'd like to see him ascend toward permanent main-eventer status with a win in MITB III. ECW Champion Lashley vs. Umaga - ECW sucks...they have no one other than RVD worth putting in a Mania title match. Over on Raw, you've got a guy in Umaga who just busted his ass and had a very good feud with John Cena. Umaga vs. Lashley works for me for some reason. It'd be a way to do something with both men and not have it feel like filler. Extreme Rules: Rob Van Dam vs. Mick Foley - Foley can and should be used if they want to use him, but I (for one) am sick of the same old boring Foley feud. I feel like we see the same thing from him every time he comes back. Well, I want to see ECW's last remaining dream match. Foley has wrestled all the other top ECW names...but not RVD. RVD, in his home area, vs. Foley would be a great hardcore brawl. I know it's unlikely, but it's what I want to see... Women's Champion Mickie James vs. Melina - Victoria unfortunately looks dead in the water. Melina is all that's left... Kane and WWE Tag Champs London and Kendrick (w/ Teddy Long and Ashley) vs. Finlay, MVP, and King Booker (or Chavo Guerrero) (w/ Vickie Guerrero and Kristal) - I have no clue what this whole Teddy Long bashing thing is leading to, but this is a way to get a lot of guys on the card, including the Playboy bimbo Ashley. |

I don't know about you guys...but does the idea of a CM Punk vs. Edge match at Mania sound good, cause last night I thought it would be gold and a great way to show Punk's skills off to the masses! They could start the feud based on Survivor Series and then have Punk defend Kelly Kelly for the comments Edge made at Rumble...I just think it could and would be a helluva 20 minute match... And Chad I like the idea of Mick Foley vs. RVD in a Hardcore Rules match, Mick Foley needs to be used in some way and I think that would be a great way... Has anyone figured out a way to use Chris Jericho if he does come back? I am thinking, and this is a stretch, Chris Benoit and Chris Jericho vs. Ken Kennedy and MVP...have Kennedy and MVP continue their alliegance towards each other and have them start attacking Benoit after Benoit beats MVP at NWO...then have Benoit challenge them to a match at Mania and have Jericho be the mystery partner...just an idea. as for the MITB: Jeff Hardy/Matt Hardy/Nitro/Shelton Benjamin/Carlito/Kane??? That sounds like a winning combo to me just some thoughts...critique where needed |

I'd like to see Kennedy vs. Jericho, 1-on-1, if Y2J comes back. Sit back and imagine the mic duels... Punk vs. Edge sounds great, but I'd call it very unlikely to happen. Edge is way up here... Punk is way down here it seems...(in the WWE's eyes) |

I don't know, maybe I'm crazy or something but I still see CENA vs HBK and BATISTA vs UNDERTAKER!!! The stories for both are already there. HBK winning the tag belts with Cena only to try and superkick him. HBK saying "Cena is no Triple H." HBK also saying that he will "once again be WWE CHAMPION. Batista accidently costing Undertaker a title shot. Undertaker accidently kicking Batista when Kennedy ducked. Batista saying that he "welcomes the challenge" when talking about facing Undertaker at Wrestlemania. These may be little things, but I think it shows that that is the direction they are going. I'm not saying that I'm absolutely correct, but the stories are already there for those matches. Aside from 'Taker showing up on Raw, there is NO STORY as of now for 'Taker/Cena and HBK/Batista. I see HBK and Cena defending those tag titles and something happening during that match or after. It could be HBK superkicking Cena for a breif heel turn or one blaming the other for a loss. Something. I know they can change direction starting Monday, but I'm not sure why they would when they already have great progression going. I think they'll stick with CENA vs HBK and BATISTA vs UNDERTAKER and honestly, I think they should. Again, I'm not saying I'm absolutely right about this, but it is what I think. I guess we'll find out Monday. |

I keep running into the problem of making Mania-worthy matches... I'm starting to think Edge-Orton won't happen because of this...as in, they may split that match up to allow them to each have a singles match, thus beefing up the card... Like perhaps having Lashley (w/ Trump) face Orton (w/ Vince)...then having Edge face and up-and-coming singles guy like a Jeff Hardy (who is over like rover and shouldn't just be thrown into the obligatory ladder match just because he's Jeff Hardy) I dunno...I really don't.... If not that, I'd make use of the singles titles...Jeff Hardy vs. Carlito seems like a good IC title match... Kennedy, Matt Hardy, Johnny Nitro, Kenny Dykstra, RVD, and CM Punk could still have a great MITB ladder match... Benoit, meanwhile, could face Finlay and MVP (who I suspect he'll start facing soon anyway) for the US title... Some of it may seem like filler, but it sure beats the hell out of a Boogeyman match or a pillow fight... |
