The soundtrack is by Icelandic pop star Björk. Yang Ban Xi (NY) Rated: NONE The story of lives inextricably linked to the Yang Ban Xi, the propaganda spectacles which replaced traditional opera during the Cultural Revolution in China. Thursday, March 30th Toro negro (NY) Rated: NONE Fernando Pacheco, known as 'El Negro' or 'El Suicida', is a matador on the Yucatan peninsula (South Mexico), the hinterland of the tourist resorts on the Maya Rivièra. El Negro - more of a stuntman than toreador - doesn't fight in the large arenas, but displays his talents in the poor districts where makeshift fences keep the skinny bulls in the makeshift arena. He is in his early twenties, has a relationship with the somewhat older Rosalia and boasts a large number of scars, both physical and psychological. González-Rubio and Armella make their documentary début by following their tragic hero in a personal, intimate way with their mini-DV camera. The result is an impressive portrait of an occasionally charming, but often blind drunk, aggressive and impulsive man. Friday, March 31st Ice Age: The Meltdown Rated: PG for some mild language and innuendo Manny, Sid and Diego return in another incredible adventure. The Ice Age is coming to an end, and the animals are delighting in their new world: a melting paradise of water parks, geysers and tar pits. Basic Instinct 2: Rated: R for strong sexuality, nudity, violence, language and some drug content In the sexy and sleek psychological thriller Basic Instinct 2, after re-locating from San Francisco to London, best-selling crime novelist Catherine Trammel (Sharon Stone) once again finds herself on the wrong side of the law. Dr. Michael Glass (David Morrissey), a respected London criminal psychiatrist, is brought in by Scotland Yard detective Roy Washburn (David Thewlis) to perform a psychiatric profile and evaluation of Tramell following the mysterious death of a top sports star. Physically drawn to Tramell and mentally intrigued by her, Glass, against the advice of his mentor, Dr. Milena Gardosh (Charlotte Rampling), is quickly sucked into her web of lies and seduction. The professional boundaries between Glass and Tramell are obliterated when she uncovers his basic instincts. A deadly battle of wits ensues, climaxing as Glass faces a choice that will change both their lives forever. ATL: Rated: PG-13 for drug content, language, sexual material & some violence The musical ensemble comedy is set in an Atlanta hip-hip roller-skating rink. T.I. will play Rashad, the head of a roller-skating team, while London will play New-New, an employee at the rink who is in love with him. The story is based on material by music producer Dallas Austin and T-Boz, a member of the pop group TLC. Slither: Rated: R for strong horror violence and gore, and language The film revolves around an alien plague that infects a small town, setting a local (Rooker) on a murderous spree. His wife (Banks) teams up with an old flame to combat the situation. Brick (NY, LA; wider release: April 7; wider release: April 21) Rated: R for violent and drug content Brendan Fry is a loner at his high school, someone who knows all the angles but has chosen to stay on the outside. When the girl he loves turns up dead, he plunges into the school's social strata like a fist through a honeycomb to find the "who" and "why," with the same single-minded devotion to his self-appointed task as the hard-boiled heroes of old. Awesome: I F***in' Shot That: Rated: R for language On October 9, 2004, the Beastie Boys handed out 50 cameras to audience members at their sold-out performance in New York's famed Madison Square Garden. These 50 different passionate perspectives shot from the point-of-view of the audience take the viewer deep inside the world of a live Beastie Boys show, prismatically and kinetically capturing the experience of a live musical performance like no film has ever done. Adam & Steve (Limited) Rated: NONE Inhabiting a post 9/11 New York, "Adam & Steve" follows the romantic trajectory of two people struggling to make love work in spite of overwhelming odds. Having met in the 80's after a disastrous one night stand, Adam (Craig Chester) & Steve (Malcolm Gets) don't recognize each other when they meet again fifteen years later. With the help of their best friends, formerly obese stand up comic Rhonda (Parker Posey), and straight guy ladies man Michael (Chris Kattan), our protagonists fall in love only to realize, a year into their relationship, that they met before and unwittingly changed the course of each other's lives that fatefull night in the 80's. Now the question is: can they accept this and incorporate it into their current understanding of each other? Or more importantly, can they hold hands on the street without being beaten up? The Devil and Daniel Johnston (NY, LA) Rated: PG-13 for thematic elements, drug content, and language including a sexual reference 2005 Sundance Film Festival, Winner - Best Director. The head of the ship, Captain Nemat tries to balance finding jobs, oil, food and even husbands for the poor and struggling families. He controls the "residence" with absolute power which comes to violent crisis when two young lovers attempt to defy his authority and from the increasing pressure of business interests seeking to seize the ship and evict the residents. Iowa (NY, LA) Rated: NONE "Iowa" is a cautionary tale of love, crime, fantasy and addiction. Two young lovers, Esper Harte (Matt Farnsworth) and Donna Huffman (Diane Foster) decide to go into the "batch" business—cooking their own methamphetamine—only to watch it burn a jagged hole in their lives. An unflinching look at the crystal meth epidemic that is currently raging in the Midwest and its devastating effect on the lives of users and the people around them, "Iowa" is notable for its restraint and compassion, and merits comparison with "Requiem for a Dream." Sunday, April 2nd No Entry: (Limited) Rated: NONE "No Entry" is the story of three men. Kishen (Anil Kapoor) - 'the married man' Sunny (Fardeen Khan) - 'the Bachelor' and Prem (Salman Khan) - 'the married bachelor'. |

No wonder the box office continues to be in the shitter. 16 Blocks and especially Inside Man are pretty much the only things worth seeing in the theater right now, imho. |

In Movie Theaters the Week of May 15th, 2006 The Da Vinci Code Rated: PG-13 for disturbing images, violence, some nudity, thematic material, brief drug references and sexual content While in Paris on business, Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) receives an urgent late-night phone call: the elderly curator of the Louvre has been murdered inside the museum. Near the body, police have found a baffling cipher. While working to solve the enigmatic riddle, Langdon is stunned to discover it leads to a trail of clues hidden in the works of Da Vinci -- clues visible for all to see -- yet ingeniously disguised by the painter. Langdon joins forces with a gifted French cryptologist, Sophie Neveu, and learns the late curator was involved in the Priory of Sion -- an actual secret society whose members included Sir Isaac Newton, Botticelli, Victor Hugo, and Da Vinci, among others. In a breathless race through Paris, London, and beyond, Langdon and Neveu match wits with a faceless powerbroker who seems to anticipate their every move. Unless Langdon and Neveu can decipher the labyrinthine puzzle in time, the Priory's ancient secret -- and an explosive historical truth -- will be lost forever. Columbia Pictures Over The Hedge Rated: PG for some rude humor and mild comic action In "Over the Hedge," Bruce Willis will voice the mischievous con-artist raccoon R.J., and Garry Shandling will be the voice of the sensitive turtle named Verne.
