Always good to bring in more quality talent.

I've still been pleased with this season overall, although I still feel like I'm seeing a lot of retread and regurgitation of things we've already seen before from past seasons.

I'm still digging it, though...

In what world could Powers Booth be Vice-President?

Yeah, I'm really enjoying that.

A criticism from a friend of mine on this season thus far:

I just watched last week's show on the DVR, so forgive me for ringing in late.

That episode ranks with the all-time worst of the series.

He's referring to last week's, 4-2-07. Harsh, on the surface, but he may not be too far from the truth.

I actually remarked to my wife -- when they were doing last week's episode recap -- how the summary seemed "new" because, although I had watched the prior episode, I had forgotten almost everything that happened in it.

This whole year has been like that. Totally uneventful, completely recycled, and just not compelling whatsoever. No supporting characters of interest (Peter MacNicol has grown on me but the whole Presidential Inner-Circle plot just gets dumber and more tired by the week), no big surprises, really nada.

When did this show become THE WEST WING? Does anyone care about Palmer, the Evil Vice President, another conspiracy to bring down the elected head of state, and...........ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ............I mean really, Sutherland has been NOWHERE to be found this season, the whole CTU and the mole (or is there one?) subplot is dead in the water too.

Yup. I've been amazed at how often Jack is totally NOT on the screen this season, to this show's continuing peril.

The villains are stock Hollywood cliches...I just can't believe what a pretty much all-out disaster this year has been. And whatever there was that WAS remotely interesting (Jack's sister in law, his brother, his dad) has been thrown out the door.

I'd even start wondering if Sutherland is leaving, except didn't he sign some HUGE contract to keep going?

Yes and yes.

The only interesting thing I've read is that there's some mysterious figure from "Jack's past" that's supposed to be coming back in the season finale....TONY ALMEIDA perhaps...since we never saw the body AND Carlos Bernard has been rumored to be on set...maybe as a plot device to FINALLY get Jack out of CTU and L.A. and into some covert operation next year? (I can dream, can't I?)

It needs to happen this year.

That would be the only thing that would get me going again...but I doubt it'll happen. Having Jack so close to home every season is like James Bond hopping around London and hanging out with M every day, for crying out loud!

My suggestions for next season --

-KEEP THE FOCUS ON JACK. The show's best asset has become an also-ran this year. What were they thinking?

-Leave L.A. Get out. There's plenty of bad people outside the metropolitan Los Angeles area, isn't there?

-Do some location shooting. We were promised it this year and apparently those plans were kiboshed.

-Dump the ENTIRE issue of the Presidency. We don't need to see it again, Jack can do his stuff without getting involved with politics. No more evil VPs, no more assassinations or attempted ones, no more jockeying for position. This isn't THE WEST WING and this year has taken the cake for tired plotlines.

-Dump CTU. Yes, I said it. Who cares. Have Jack check in with Chloe or Buchanan for a couple of minutes an episode to gauge where he's at. Leave the rest of the scheming and back-stabbing and office politics alone.

The bottom line is the show is so recycled, I can't see how they can keep going back to the same well. They've done it again this year and IMO the series is suffering big-time as a result...it just isn't fresh or interesting and now the ratings are declining.

Bring Sutherland back to front, give us a new plot line and new characters with the intensity of the first couple of years. They CAN do it, but somewhere along the line I think they thought all the peripheral CTU and political stuff was what people cared about, or else why do they continue to recycle and rehash all of it OVER AND OVER AGAIN??!?

^^ After last week's show, I'm starting to slide more towards agreeing with a lot of this. I felt like my friend had been kind of harsh, but now, not so much.

Yeah, I like the show and it keeps me entertained, but I definitely feel like we're in a lazy cruise control mode with it at this point.

For all the early negativity about Lost's season, that show is back to kicking ass easily compared to 24 this season. All Lost needs to do is go back to 9pm and all their problems are largely over.

24 is easily in worse shape.

Aside: Where's the Prison Break love? I feel like that show has pretty much owned 24 for the last two seasons it's been on. I'm am big time going to miss Prison Break and I can't wait for season 3! If you haven't gotten on board this ride yet, you need to do so ASAP. Great show!
