In 1963 Wyoming and Texas, a rodeo cowboy named Jack (Gyllenhaal) and a ranch hand called Enis (Ledger) take a summer job tending a flock of sheep on forest-service land. The entirely unexpected outcome: a torrid affair between the two men. Later in their lives, they go their separate ways and find wives (Hathaway, Williams), but the memory of that summer refuses to fade.

STARRING:Heath Ledger, Jake Gyllenhaal, Randy Quaid, Anne Hathaway, Michelle Williams

DIRECTOR: Ang Lee

WRITER(S): Larry McMurtry, Diana Ossana

Status In theaters (limited)

Genre(s) Romance, Drama, Western

Release Date Dec. 9, 2005 — New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco; Dec. 16, 2005 — select markets

Running Time 134 minutes

MPAA Rating R - for sexuality, nudity, language and some violence

Anyone care to see this shit? It's getting good reviews (naturally), but I care not to see gay cowboys. I'm guessing the nudity is the two guys having sex, which also takes away from my give a damn of seeing this.

Uh...how about no?

And great call by Hollywood to bring out something like this during the holiday season!

As if that wasn't done on purpose.

Nothing says Christmas time like gay cowboys :roflmao:

The good news is it isn't doing that well, then again it has only been out for 11 days and is only in 69 theaters right now.

Total grossing is at $3,879,000 as of the weekend.

I fail to see why people would want to watch this movie. That's nothing against gays, it just sounds like an extremely crappy movie. 2 hours and 14 minutes of shit is what this is, not surprising that professional critics give it "rave reviews".

That movie reviewer friend of mine says it was funny that people were going to see this thing, and before it came on, there was some preview of some other new Heath Ledger film coming out where he's VERY obviously heterosexual, hunting down the ladies, etc.

And then you go to this thing. He said it really made people laugh out loud in the theater.

What happened at the box office over this crucial holiday weekend?

Well, "Brokeback Mountain" added over 150 theaters to its existing 69 and took in less money totally than it had during its halcyon days in San Francisco.

The trend seems to indicate that as "Brokeback" makes it way into polite society, the interest is starting to wane. It doesn't matter, though. "Brokeback" is still assured of a Best Actor nomination for Heath Ledger and maybe Best Picture. But the frenzy is over, that's clear.

"King Kong" continued to under-perform. It pretty much tied with "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" for the weekend, with $20 million, give or take.

The problem is that "King Kong" has slowed down considerably. Twelve days passed before "Kong" went over the $100 million mark. Break-even is a long way off, even with respectable international sales.

Steven Spielberg's "Munich" now has a respectable $6 million in sales, even though it's still in limited release and has almost no "regular" publicity. It's not clear how that plan will work out, but "Munich" is attracting an audience very quickly.

All three movies are from Universal Pictures. It's their year, no matter what happens. Stacey Snider and friends, take a bow.

Gee, I wonder why the movie did well in San Francisco. The frenzy was never there for most people, it's not something most want to see when they watch a movie. There's a reason the movie is known as the "gay cowboy movie", and that's because no one wants to see a movie about that.

"Hey, have you seen Brokeback Mountain?"

"No, what's it about?"

"Gay cowboys."

"Fuck that."

No surprise that the Academy will love all over it though, they like Hollywood in general, are totally out of touch with the majority the US population.

Munich is something I want to see though.
