I'll admit when I first heard about this show upon it's debut in 2001, I was skeptical.

I knew it was supposed to be some sort of a version of the Superman mythos, but was afraid that, being on the traditionally teen-heavy WB network, it would get watered down into something that Superman should not be.

I can be that way, since I was a Superman and Batman fan growing up. It's just like alot of us know what we want to see from WWE after all these years of watching, and I'm sure Q and Chad can also relate it to their Star Wars attraction. When you're a big fan of something, you can be a hell of a critic as well because you want to see things reach their full potential or close to it.

But my initial skepticism of this show has been replaced by awe, really. After catching some episodes in a hit and a miss over the years and thinking, "this show ain't bad at all," I've begun watching regularly and am pretty much hooked on it.

It's just an awesome telling of how Clark Kent grew into Superman, and how Lex Luthor came to be his arch enemy. It's interesting, because the two of them have this great bond when the series begins, but you very gradually see Luthor grow more and more evil as each season of the show progresses. Right now, four episodes into season five, he's really starting to show how sadistic he can be.

The series stays very true to the comic in alot of ways, and improvises and expands greatly upon it in many others. You also get cameos from other D.C. Comics characters from time to time, Aquaman's appearance on last week's episode being the most recent example.

I'm just fuckin' hooked on this shit. I plan on purchasing all four previous seasons on DVD for Christmas.

Anyone else here besides me a big fan of this kind've stuff and this show?

I've watched it a few times. I don't hate it, but I don't go out of my way to watch it either. If I'm flipping by and I see it on ABC Family, I'll watch it until a commerical airs, then I change and usually forget about it.

Then again, I've never much cared for anything Superman related. With that said though, the show still seems to blow all of things Superman out of the water, which I was glad to see.

I do like the showing of the history of Clark and Luther though, they seem to have been going about that whole story well.

I used to not go out of my way either S, but after watching a few full episodes I got hooked.

It does indeed blow any other Superman genre out of the water. Alot of people cite the first two Superman films with Christopher Reeve, but all due respect to the late actor, they hold no candle to this series.

Yeah, the Clark Kent/Lex Luthor saga is good stuff. On the current season, they came to blows in the second episode, but still share what is now a very uneasy alliance. You can tell things are about to come to a boil again, though.

The show started unfathomably slow, but the last season or two, it's really started to take off.

Like any prequel, I was incredibly skeptical, but this show has earned my respect and shows you the right way to do a prequel situation of sorts. You hear me, George Lucas?

I consider that high praise for the series coming from you Q. We all know you straight shoot on that stuff.

Yeah, some of the early episodes showed that the series was just getting it's bearings obviously.

I watched the most recent episode last night; looks like Lex may be on his way to the Senate, a potential stepping stone to President Lex....

Coming up on the 100th episode of this series next week, and they've been building to a "major death" that will be taking place in that episode along with Clark finally revealing his secret to Lana.

I've seen rumors flying all over the place about who will die, the main two being Jonathan Kent and Lana.

Last week's episode focused on the senate race between Jonathan and Lex, and Jonathan was beaten up by a radical group of Luthor supporters from Central Kansas University and left for dead. He also showed the strain of the race, as he was shown taking his heart medicine, something the show hasn't spent as much time focusing on since that arc emerged in Season 3.

Mrs. Kent also took a secret campaign contribution from Lionel Luthor because the Kents are out of money to keep the campaign running and she didn't want to have to tell Jonathan that since the race was important to him and he was leading in the polls. Lionel apparently is once again undercutting Lex, though not for such obvious reasons in this instance.

Getting really interesting here; can't wait for number 100.

It's like a comic book come to life....

I now own all four seasons on DVD, and am of course watching the current fifth season every week. Can't wait until it comes out on DVD in the fall, because it's been an awesome season thus far with Brainiac, The Fortress of Solitude and a major death.

Just take it from the top with Season One there Chad, then go right on through. The episodes you saw in that ABC Family marathon yesterday were from Season Four where Lois has come into town, so you've got a bit of watching to do before you get there, lol.

Did you ever finish the first season Chad? Had a chance to move along to the second and so forth?

I just watched, a couple of hours ago, the next-to-last episode for the current season, Season Five.

This is a SPOILER alert for anyone who doesn't want to know anything about it if they haven't seen it yet and are a regular viewer.

Professor Milton Fine/Brainiac shape-shifted into the deceased Jonathan Kent in an effort to convince Clark that Lionel Luthor needed to be killed in order to save humanity (Lionel also knows Clark's secret, ever since his body was converted into a Kryptonian oracle at the end of Season Four). He told Clark that Lionel was planning to unleash doom on the planet.

It eventually came to light that it was Brainiac behind this, even after Clark and Martha discovered that Lionel was in the barn with Jonathan the night Jonathan died. Clark nearly killed Lionel out of grief, especially with Brainiac standing right there encouraging him to do so under the guise of Jonathan, but Lionel was able to talk Clark out of it, reminding him that Jonathan Kent would never condone Clark's murdering someone under any circumstances. After Brainiac nearly killed Clark when Clark realized it wasn't his father, Lionel somehow managed to vanquish Brainiac merely by touching him!

Unfortunately, Brainiac, as a form of Kryptonian-created artificial intelligence, is able to replicate many times over and thus still exists.

Brainiac and Lex have been working together--albeit loosely--to incubate the deadliest viruses on Earth into a vaccine that, upon injection, would theoretically inoculate anyone against any virus that could be unleashed, presumably by alien forces such as those that arrived at last season's end on the ship that also brought Brainiac to Earth. Brainiac had told Lex that he was working on this project as a member of the government and could use LuthorCorp's help, but Lex has since discovered that Brainiac is not what he once seemed and cannot be trusted at all.

Therefore, upon collecting the viruses from Brainiac, Lex had assembled his team of scientists at a top secret location to produce the vaccine. But Brainiac strong-armed Lex into revealing the location, then revealed that he knew Lex would never trust him, but knew that Lex was ambitious and power hungry enough to go through with producing the vaccine. He then said that while it was impressive that Lex had produced it on a mass scale, he only ever needed one vile. He then forcefully injected Lex with that vile and destroyed the others!

Lex's doctors gave him a clean bill of health, but by episode's end, he noticed a Kryptonian symbol bubbling up on his arm and also discovered he was now invincible after accidentally cutting his finger and watching it heal instantly.

Lionel, meanwhile, continues to serve as a Kryptonian oracle and has now seemingly gained Clark's trust. Ever since last season's end, he has been etching Kryptonian symbols onto various surfaces, and he turned his assortment of them over to Clark in hopes that Clark could decipher them. They were too jumbled initially, but after Chloe ran them through a computer program designed to identify matching shapes, symbols, letters, etc. throughout a body of text, she discovered that three separate symbols each appear 32 times in Lionel's work. She presented those results to Clark at episode's end, asking him if he could now decipher their meaning.

Upon glaring at them, the symbols come together to simply read "ZOD."

For anyone who saw the second Christopher Reeve film and has followed Superman, I don't really have to explain that one to you.

Brainiac tried to free General Zod from the Phantom Zone earlier this season after tricking Clark into believing he was his friend. Clark was able to thwart his efforts, though it now seems he's up to it again.

Okay, so I believe that Brainiac injected Lex with the special vaccine to turn his body into a vessel for which to channel Zod. I also believe that Lionel's body will be used as a vessel for Jor-El, seeing as how Jor-El and Zod were arch-enemies on Krypton.

This was a great episode; I'm looking forward to the season finale and the start of Season Six in the fall on the new CW network.

Well, I just found out that Fienes is Braniac...not familiar with Braniac so I guess that's no big surprise...

Who is Braniac anyway?

I have enjoyed Season 5...I pretty much watch it for pure entertainment value and don't ever really critique what I'm watching...Based solely on entertainment, Season 5 is great just like the other seasons...

Smallville is a damn good show...

Brainiac is the Brain Interactive Construct from Krypton, an artificial intelligence created by kryptonians before the planet was destroyed.

Brainiac went rogue I guess you'd say, and can be linked to the destruction of Krypton along with General Zod and his disciples (the two who landed in the ship at the beginning of the season looking for Kal-El).

Before Krypton blew up, Brainiac downloaded itself into that ship so it could escape destruction. That's explains why Milton Fine sort of "oozes" out of the ship and forms into his basic appearance, if you've seen him do that (he did it at the end of the season premiere when the ship was shown to be located in one of Lex's facilities).

Smallville is indeed a damn good show. It's a shame that you haven't finished all of Season Five yet and aren't seeing the new episodes as they're airing, because these first two episodes of Season Six have been great thus far.

Thought I'd post in this thread since it's been awhile.

Season Six has been something else. Through 15 episodes, I'd rate it as the best season of the series yet, which says alot.

Aside from the fact that Lex Luthor has really grown more into the legendary super-villain than ever, the presence of the Justice League and characters like Green Arrow, Aquaman, The Flash, Cyborg and Martian Manhunter has been great.

It's also cool that they've worked in a few WWE Superstars in guest roles tailored to fit them. Batista's performance earlier in the season as one of the escaped prisoners from the Phantom Zone was done fairly well, and Kane and Ashley Massaro are also both set to appear as Phantom Zoners in an upcoming episode. I saw pics from the set of that episode, and they both looked the part, to be sure.

Originally, I'd read somewhere in the past that many though a seventh season would be the last. But now, with the show doing so well and getting more exposure on the CW than it did on the WB, they're saying that with the good ratings and all it could go beyond a seventh season.

Only time will tell I guess....

By the way Chad, sorry if I spoiled things for you with the whole mention of the Justice League characters.
