Which is your favourite Oliver Reed film? I would say mine varies between the 2 musketeer films and Hanibal Brooks |

Very much like the Musketeer films and Hannibal Brooks but also liked Castaway, Oliver! and (being a female) I thought he was pretty damn gorgeous in The Assasination Bureau. Lovely to see that with his last film Gladiator he put in such a great final performance.. |

With Ollie being so much a male icon I sometimes forget he has as many female fans. I like the Assasination Bureau as well. |

One of the best scenes in Hanibal Brooks is Ollie pretending to be drunk (he was actually acting I believe) when some German soldiers suprise him in a house. Years later he appeared on The Word and gave a perfect replica performance, giving them what they had invited him for and proving what a good actor he was. Not sure which of the two performances I liked most  |

I have a soft spot of Ollie in Castaway too - its one of my favourites. I'd actually read the book before I saw the movie - and for me, Ollie fitted the character of Gerald perfectly. I've actually got a copy of the book signed by Lucy Irvine and still read it from time to time - I really recommend it. My favourite Ollie roles involve him where I think he could bring to a role what no other actor could - and that's menace. King (The Damned), Jean La Bete (The Trap), Bill Sykes, Athos, Eddie Mars (The Big Sleep), Gerald Crich (Women In Love) - all dominating characters which I'm sure Ollie didn't have to try too hard to fulfill! |
