I realise, that with the bowls on TV this week, that there may be a few questions about the game. I dunno why, It's not hard to understand, but I also want to post some of the achevments in my club: the TIBC. (Templecombe Indoor Bowling Club) and in county matches: the SMBA. Last season, The TIBC won everything. We are entered for 3 different leagues, the Mendip league, the BMV(blackmore Vale League) and the Yeovil league. In which we won all three last year. This Year, I am playing in the Yeovil league as a 3/SKIP, playing 2/SKIP in our second team in the BMV div. 1 and capitianing the second Mendip team. Results to follow. No. 10. - If your reading this, then your the first to read my diary. |

Match 2 - BMV league WASPS - BEES. A very tight game as we played our first team who won the league last year. Me and Kevin who were skipping the two rinks battled hard, but the Prowess of Alan Berry(Ex England Captian) and Celia Jeans (Skip for County) was too much as they won the match 5-1. This was a decent result for us as we came close and got nothing last year. Saturday 11th November Yeovil League Tripples. Myself, Mat Chapman, and Tiffany Fudge played in a tripples tourdament today. We were templecombes 3rd team. We won all our group matches, 10-4, 11-3 and 15-1 respectivly. One of the early scrapes was when Allan, Jim and Taresa(Our First team) were beaten twice in the group stage knocking them out. Quarter-Final Time, 3 good shots by yours trulli and it was a whomping 16-2 win. In the game, on consecutive ends, we were first 4 down and I drew in perfectly to take the shot and then 2ndly 5 down and it was fired down into the ditch for 3 shots to us, we also got a hotshot on the next end. For the Semi-finals, It was a grudge match as we played our second team in the competition. Hazel Berry, Andrew Pinkawa, and Kevin Pinkawa beat us in the semi-final last year, but, as I was playing so well today, we ended up 13-4 winners. The final was also a good win 7-4 againsed a stubborn Bourton team. Pictures to come. |

Mendip League. - (got to be the pick of the season.) Templecombe "B" vs Henton "A" With the two league system in the mendip league, new arrivals Henton's both sides, don't have to play our first team, the 8 times winners, but they do have to play our second team, my team. So far this season we have dropped all of two points winning 4-2 verses COmpton Dundon, a very good team. The match is played over 18 ends and on two mats, here was the scores after 9 ends. Henton 2 & 3 Templecombe 18 & 29 We were miles ahead. We even got a hotshot towards the end of the game. The final score ended: Mat 1- My Mat. Templecombe win 40-11 Mat 2- Mikes Mat. Templecombe win 30-6 Final score: Templecombe "B" 70 - 17 Henton "A" So it goes to next week when we play Henton "B". Points this season 34 out of 36. |

Hey Lee V, can you explain the game of bowls? I don't really understand it and I have no idea how you score! The only time I have watched it on TV was for a few seconds during the Commonwealth Games! I think it was Northern Ireland, Norfolk Island or Jersey... |

Actually, I didn't write that bit, I wrote the "Rules of the game page." National Juniors today. Well the regional qualifiers, you have to win your county to play in the nationals. Players Edward Dyer Mathew Chapman Kevin "Pinkachew" Pinkawa David Wright (Not elegible for Finals, playing in place of Mac, will not go through from this tourdament) Sophie Wright Dan Windhill ??????? - We suspect from Martock ??????? - We suspect from Martock It will be played in two groups of four and a final (Semi-finals is also a possibility, I don't know how Kieth is organising it.) Kevin - I've now played him 5 times after the Pam Simms on Tuesday, The only time I have ever beaten him, was in this tordament last year. David Wright - He is a great player, but it was such a long time ago when I played him, (And Lost) that anything can happen. Dan Windhill - He was the one who got through last year. He beat me 10-9 with my last wood, I have never beaten him, although I've only played him three times and he's playing badly at the moment. Mathew Chapman - "Chapperz" as he is known and me have played each other more times than either one of us has played anyone else. It's something like 9-5 to me at the moment. Although saying that, Matt has been playing much, much better than me of late. Sophie Wright - I want revenge after last time I played her. She was on real form at the U16 Event at Martock, winning her first real tordament, she had me with just one wood to play, ditching the jack, with no way back for myself. We have played twice, and I beat her the other time. I am thinking that the other two people might be Paul And Kerion from Martock. I have never played either of them, but to be honest, neither is a real threat. The groups Group A Sophie Wright Mathew Chapman Paul (From Martock) Dan Windhill Group B David Wright (If he won the group he would not go through as he is not elegible.) Kerion (From Martock) Edward Dyer Kevin Pinkawa. Sophie played Mat whilst David Played Kerion. Sophie and Matt had a great game that somehow finnished 9 all, even though matt was much the better player all game. David Wright dully despected Kerion unserprisingly. Dan beat Paul Convisingly as well while the grudge match between me and Kev went on. Kev pulled 3 ahead with three ends to play. I got a maximum to pull 1 ahead. On the last end, I was holding 2 and kevs wood pulled up short, and I dully took the two to win by 3. Dan Played matt, and somehow Matt did the same again, another draw, but this now put him out of the competition, due to the fact that sophie won againsed Paul. I then played crap againsed David. He beat me 8-5. A four on the last end made it look respectable, while Kev won by 8 againsed Kerion. The final match in group A, asaw the two people that could win the group play each other, Sophie and Dan. Sophie somehow won by two shots and grabbed a place in the fianl, but who would she play? Me or Kev? All I had to do is to win my match againsed Kerion, and hope that David Won his game. He did, and I won by 12 in my game. The final was over before it started, I didtched the jack with my first wood and scored a maximum. I put the jack short, and Sophie decided to play it back, that was fatal, another ditching attemped that sucseeded, and I scored a 2. With an end to play I was winning 10-7. Sophie needed a 4 to win, or 3 to take the game into an extra-end decider, her first wood was short, which ment she couldn't win, but bad bowling on my part, left her with two and a bowl in her hand, my wood drew in perfectly, leaving her no shot, and I will be going to kettering on the 18th of March. Pairs and Fours competitions tommorow, but for now, I am celebrating two grudge matche victories in one day! |

I realise I havn't really kept this thread as active as I had hoped. But today looking at the the Blackmore Vale Website, I have found out that the team that I capitian, The Templecombe Wasps did "The great escape" for the second season running! We needed maximum(six) points from our last game againsed 2nd places Hazelberries. They still had 2 games to play and needed only 8 points to win above our first team The Templecombe Bees for the first time. This result would keep us in div. 1 for another season. To get six points you need to win both mats. That is easy to say, but this was agaisned a team we have never taken points off before. At half time the score was 10-14 and 13-9 both to the hazelberries. But On changing mats, Me and Kevin Pinkawa started playing the way that got me into 9th place in the U18 Nationals and we won our mat from 10-14 down to win 37 - 16. The other mat was 20-19 to us with 3 ends left, but a quick 3 for the Berries, put us in real trouble. The last two ends saw Mike Robberts play some brilliant shots to win that tripple with a 2 and a 5 on the last end to win 27-22. That meant that, if The Hazelberries second team The Hazelnuts scored ess than 10 out of thier last two games we would be safe. The Hazelnuts did however get those points! Beating Sixpenny Handley 6-0 and Then third place Stalbridge Falcons 6-0 as well. We thought we were down now. There was only one match still to play in our division when I saw the new table. It turned out that Sixpenny Handley who had been leading the table for a while were still below us, they were playing last place Bishop's Caudles. The match was so big, that our whole team went to it and watched Sixpenny Handley get thrashed 6-0 by the caundles keeping us up. Looking back through the scores, It turned out that the caundles were in 3rd untill thier last 5 matches(out of 14) which they did not score a single point! The FINAL TABLE! Division 1 Games Played Points Shot Diff 1.Templecombe Bees 14 68 201 2.Hazelberries 14 61 133 3.Stalbridge Falcons 14 49 20 4.Shroton 14 39 5 5.Hazelnuts 14 33 -114 6.Templecombe Wasps 14 31 -41 --------------------------------------- 7.Sixpenny Handley 14 29 -58 8.Caundles 14 26 -146 The full 5 divisions of tables can be found on the Dorset League/blackmore Vale Website : - http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/dorsetsmba/blac...7/bvleagues.htm The next Report will be from Either the Woodbridge Trophy, which is basically a county U18 National finals, or It will be The Somerset U18 team vs Templecombe _(I'll be playing for the U18 team for this.) |

WoodBridge Trophy: We took two teams up to the woodbridge Trophy, 25 Counties entered and 7 of them had second teams. We had 32 teams. The WoodBridge Trophy is done as a round-robin, so that everyone plays 6 games, and there is NO FINAL. The teams that win are the ones that have the best record. Our First Match was on Mat no. 7, Mack had a shocker, but, We did beat Hampshire quite comfortably, I said "Thats for the nationals Mate" as he was the one that took me out of the nationals a couple of months beforehand. The next match was againsed Essex, who we beat 8-2 on Mat 7. Our third match was againsed Lancashire 2 and a catastophic error of judgement by yours trulli, by putting Mat skip, a five later, and we were back the way we were. At this point we were in 9th place overall, and for a team expecting to be in top 5 we weren't doing well, going into lunch, however our other team was doing well, leading the standings by 2 shots. After Lunch, we had to play Lancashire 1. But we had a secret weapon, Mack was on it now. A 7 on the second end gave us an unpredicted 10-4 scoreline. We played a good Kent side next (Well, the skip was a good player, but I wouldn't have given a bowl to the lead.) And then the big one, againsed Devon, to win. Devon were in 5th place, and we were in 2nd place. A win, and we would stay in 2nd, and them in 5th, a loss, and we would swap places. We needed to win by 10 to win the tordament. It didn't start well, 5-1 down with 2 ends to play. The 6th end is where we should have won it. Holding 5, and It was my job to put a blocker in. My Blocker just stopped a centimeter short of the optimum place, and held a place where the jack was still visable, but it made the shot a lot harder. The opposition skip was now in real trouble, I was holding 6, with a wood to play where we could have scored a maximum, and had to play the jack into the ditch. He got the shot with an inch to spare. We were 2 down, but won the last to finish the day in 5th, our other team lost thier last game too, and thus lost the toudament to, 5-6, and finished 4th. The winners should have been disqualified for entering an elegible team though... Anyway, the teams: Somerset 1: Mack Barnstaple (Lead) Toby Barnstaple (Second) Mathew Chapman (Third) Edward Dyer (Skip) Somerset 2: Sophie Wright (Lead) James Attwood (Second) Kevin Pinkawa (Third) Dan Windhill (Skip) Coach/Team Capitian: David Attwood |
