Personally I see it as more than just matter of should Microsoft provide options for other browsers, but instead it's a sign that the Free Market isn't the wonderful economic mechanism of the democratic free world that it was touted to be for so many decades now. The problem is that over time bigger companies will takeover more and more smaller companies until eventually the game of Monopoly is over...and as the game name suggests, there is only one company per market or maybe one day overall. The Europeans are trying to slow that process down but it'll not make much difference at the end of the day. If the same thing were to happen here there would probably be cries of government interference and socialist agendas at play, but ironically if one company dominates a market, you're just ending up with a company that's controlling things instead of a government. As I've mentioned before, Europeans are much more suspicious of corporations than Americans are, so it's no real surprise that they're trying to make Microsoft jump through some hoops, but I think something else will need to change if we're to really see these kinds of markets have healthy competition again. The free market is by no means perfect, but it is a system that has served us well in the short term, but it has to evolve if it isn't to become a corrupt and broken system that no longer serves the best interests of society.
