Ok I know this game isn't new or anything, but it hasn't gotten old enough to be un-enjoyable either. I think this second one was out only a year before CNC3 so graphics are still quite good.

I played through the first one a bit and liked quite a few things, but it had it's drawbacks most notably they limited your fortress/camps quite a bit by dictating where you could build things and I got bored with it quicker than I thought I would. However, the 2nd one improved on pretty much everything they messed up in the first game. I was really surprised at how balanced all the factions are as well. There are 6 different factions 7 if you are playing the expansion and even with differing powers and units they are all fairly balanced out in one way or the other, much more so than CNC without the mod. Each race has heroes and a their own uber-fortress map which is really cool. I played through on the other side of the fortress for the Witch King of Angmar and it took me 3hrs. and 18min to break the fortress on EASY. At the end I had every single super power too and Sauron an uber unit and it was still incredibly challenging to say the least.

I would highly recommend either Battle for Middle Earth 2 or Rise of the Witch King Expansion to anyone and if anyone gets it let me know as I think it would be great fun to play on multiplayer and offers something different from CNC3.

Edit*
Oh and the AI seems more impressive than CNC3 as well. It reacts to your moves and increases defenses accordingly if you start hitting a certain thing or area, it attacks in waves but it doesn't always hit you in the same place or with the same units and uses a mixture of regular, hero type units as well as siege units. It always goes for your weakest area. It does have two weaknesses in skirmish though, it doesnt' use superpowers much if at all at times, although I've not played it much on the harder difficulty levels. I'm sure brutal does. and it doesn't seem to close gates on fortresses, again though playing on medium and easy. The one time I played on hard I got wiped.

"You wanted to know who was with us. You just found out. That was our squad blasting their way in.
RAA'KEEL-
Your squad?
JOHN-
Yeah. A whole platoon of big hairy guys with really cool tats and more guns than you can count. If they come down here and find us dead, they're gonna slit you from crotch to eyeball with a dull deer antler." -Farscape
