First download WORLDBUILDER This is the map making program or the Kane's Wrath Version; http://planetcnc.gamespy.com/fullstory.php?id=154049 1. Set the map size a. Click FILE -> Resize b. Then decide on a map size (I go with 650 x 650 but most people go with 400 x 400) c. Set the initial height to any height you want but a setting of 100 is a good start d. Zoom out with the scroll wheel and you’ll see the map 2. Now you need to enable skimirsh players (so that you can set start positions) a. Click EDIT -> EDIT PLAYER LIST b. The window that opens is often too big for some screen resolutions so you may have to adjust your screen rez temporarily to make it fit c. Hit ADD SKIRMISH PLAYERS then OK d. You will see stuff added to all the windows e. Using the waypoint tool (hit W), click anywhere on the map and it will say “Waypoint 1” in green f. Go to the drop down on the window and select “Player 1” g. Do this for as many players as you want for the map. h. You can move these positions around with the arrow tool i. FOR MORE THAN 4 players; you need to manually add additional players by clicking EDIT – EDIT PLAYER LIST, then “new player”, select “civilian” from the drop down. Next type “Player_5” in the display name field and the change name field. Check the “Is Computer-controlled?” box. Do the same for all additional players. 3. Save your map! It will automatically save to your map folder ready for play. 4. Add tiberium by clicking on the place object tool (P) which looks like 3 lines with arrows. This is where all objects in the game are kept. Tiberium is under BY NATIVE TYPE – NEUTRAL – MISC_NATURAL. 5. To see how big a tiberium field will be in the game click VIEW – INFLUENCES – SHOW TIBERIUM FIELD RADIUS. Make sure that the white circles aren’t overlapping the edge of the map border or anything else. You can add other objects and sounds using this procedure. Just use the arrow button to move them around. 6. TIP: If you can’t find an object but have seen it in another map, save you map then open another map. Select the object you want in your map and hit CTRL C. Open your map again and hit CTRL V. 7. Terrain; There are 4 terrain tools. The first one is the height brush (icon is a brush). This tool is great for creating large or small even areas. If you want to create a plateau this is the tool to use. Next is the mound tool (brush icon with + symbol), this tool creates hills in cone shapes and can be adjusted in the same way as all other tools. The dig tool is the same as the mound tool but it digs instead. Then there’s the smooth height tool which is self explanatory. 8. Ramps; if you want to make a ramp select the ramp tool (triangle) and click then drag from one position to another (adjust the width of the ramp first – 50 is a good small sized ramp). Hot place ramp and the ramp tool will cut a ramp into terrain. 9. Textures. Textures are added by selecting the chequer board looking icons. One tool works on one cell at a time while the other one allows you to works on large areas (smallest being 2 cells and then any number above that). 10. When you have added a texture you need to blend it in so that it doesn’t look zig-ziggy. Hit the auto-edge out tool (shift – E) which has a small black box icon. Click on the texture to blend it. 11. When you have added everything you want you need to make a minimap. There’s a tutorial for this at the top of this thread. ================================================== Read the tutorial that installs to your root command and conquer folder. The text file is a good start. The RTF goes into a lot more detail but the text file will be more helpful as it has a step by step guide to getting started. ================================================== To make a minimap; Step 1: Create a minimap image. Turn off all waypoints, tags, etc. and to view the entire map from the top and take a screenshot of it. Step 2: In an image editing program which supports tga files (such as photoshop) load the screenshot. Crop the image and resize it so that it is 256x256 pixels. (Note: If you're using photoshop I'd suggest you quickly using the "auto levels" and "sharpen" tools, they are quick and easy ways to make the image look much better) Step 3: Save the image as yourmapname_art.tga (make sure its 24 bit) in your map's folder. The "_art" section is important, otherwise it will only show up in the map selection area, not on the minimap. And you're done! A page of really cool scripts. I'll be trying out a script that'll add a welcome message and website link so that the map names don't need to have our url http://www.cncden.com/cnc3_map_scripts.shtml |
