SOE, don't let BIAS nVidiots derail you from being objective. You have the opportunity to see things for what they really are. Just like me, you will now have good experience with nVidia as well as ATI, and you will see that they are BOTH EXCELLENT PRODUCTS. They both have their "ups" and they both have their "downs", like anything in life. But at the end of the day, you will get immense satisfaction from both of them, that I can assure you. :headbang:

Thanks FX - I feel the same way.

I'm also slightly bothered by the SM3.0 story but as soon as I run a game my jaw drops at the blistering frame rates :D and I soon forget about SM3.0

But yeah - I've been on both sides of the fence and I must say, I'm a ATI/NVIDIA fanboy :D They both have loads of positive aspects...

But to me, it all comes down to what I have in my PC and how good it serves my purpose.

Hey -FX-....Okay, I do agree with you on some part, but I'm yet to be swayed towards the fact that ATI drivers are not an issue. Yup I should maybe look at removing the .net, and Catalyst control center, and please where can I get the tray tools. I only have Radlinker at the moment, the latest one, and it's okay. What I hate is the constant screen blacking out when going into a game, or benchmark, but maybe it's the way I set it up. My loading times is much longer than with my Nvidia card, but meybe you know the cure for that as well. I'm still a noob when it gets to ATI, but hey, you learn something new everyday. As for the smooth frame rates, well mine is the same as it was with the 6800GT, but as soon as I run Aquamark3, it jurks and stutters ot places (but no significant frame drop, funny enough) where the 6800GT ran smooth. As for the SM3.0 part, I'm glad someone see that in the same way I do, but when I argue, they throw Black & White SM2 and SM3 screenshots in my face....and talk about Ridd1ck, which I thought looks kak in SM3, but that's just me. But sooner or later excelent applications using SM3 suffeciently will come around.......

And just incase you think I say these things about ATI drivers just because I'm a Nvidia fanboy......I'm not, I'm a 3DFX fanboy LOOOL, and I'm still looking to see if X1800XT or the 7800Ultra will be my next purchase.

Hey voodoo - Ridd1ck did look kak in SM3.0 cause you cant apply AA with SM3.0 at the same time!!!

And dude  My screen doesn't black out when I load games!!! My framerate is MUCHO faster than my 6800GT's framerate...

Something not lekker there dude

Hehe no biggie VooDoo, dont worry I never though of you as a nVidia fanboy..... you are actually one with more of an open mind.

It's funny though that I would try to defend ATI even though I don't have any of their cards at the moment. But I feel it is only right to state my experiences in the light of the fact that I have had nothing but EXCELLENT service from the 8500 series to the 9700 Pro to the 9800 XT and even the more recent X850XTPE.

ATI TRAY TOOLS - check out the pic below.... built in refresh lock and hardware temperature monitor.... great stuff, and thats only the tip of the iceburg. But like any app, it needs time to be learnt and understood for the full benefit to be seen :)
Get it from HERE

Yeah and I agree with you 100% about Ridd1ck. That is actually the showcase game that I used to see the diffences between the Shader Model versions that it offered. I took screenshots in EXACTLY the same place looking at exactly the same scene - which was a guard's gun lying on the floor. Believe me I was not impressed at all.

Man, and as to your performance issues, I really don't know..... but I'm assuming your bench scores look pretty normal hey? Or are they low as well? Or are your score ok but it's the "feeling" you get when you running the card?

Oh and just as a footnote..... we talk about issues between the cards: Last night, over HALF my games would not run for some reason. I double click the icon on the desktop, and it flickers once or twice then goes back to desktop. That has NEVER happended with my old ATI cards. But all of a sardine, it's happening with my 7800GTX. I mean you tell me now! Strange eh? See what I mean by personal experience? But still, I try to look BEYOND these issues and not let it get me into thinking "nVidia BLOWS!!!!". Because they certainly don't. But then again neither do ATI :)

No SOE I don't think so........the card runs okay...really nice, but it's the finer touches that I miss, and my friend next door, also an ATI card does the same......so naturally I would say it's standard, mayby with the drivers I'm running......

One example........GTA-SA....with my 6800GT, as I clicked on the icon, I kid you not, I would be in the menu of the game within 2 seconds. I don't even see the intro section because I already press enter. With the ATI card it's much longer.

Hey thanx FX...very true what you saying there. Look I do like this HIS Excalibur X850XT ICQEII whatever else code...the card looks wicked, and it does perform really well. I will get those tools and check them out. WHat drivers would be best to use, because I first installed everything from the suppliers cd .net included, and then installed 5.11, and I know without .net, Windoze gives you some small error when running ATI drivers.....true or not?

VooDoo, I understand now where you are coming from...... I can share 2 examples with you as well:
With my ATI, the logo screen of "Gas Powered" in Dungeon Siege 2 was slow (for me anyway) and is now very fast with my 7800GTX, but now the complete opposite has happened with the menu screen of Dungeon Lords..... it was LIGHTNING fast before, but now all of a sudden runs at 1 frame per second, I kid you not!!!!!

Can we explain this? I doubt it. It's bizarre, but still, I'm not gonna kick nVidia in the chops because of Dungeon Lords' slow loading menu..... because I realise now that they BOTH have issues. Strange issues. BUT if they play the actaul games PROPERLY, then I'm happy :)

Dude, I stopped using CCC a while ago, purely because I felt it was totally unnecessary to have such bloated drivers. We are hardcore gamers and don't need all the window dressing that ATI did with the CCC. All I use (or used) were the simple Control Panel drivers from the ATI website..... all versions worked well for me. There was never a specific version that ever gave me kak :)

Guys! We're making real progress here... I have a similar story to share about Dungeon Siege 2... the microsoft logo movie in the beginning was stuttering extremely with my nVidia card and the problem has gone now with my ATI card. Strange that you'd experience almost the opposite effect FX.

but so far it's been extremely smooth sailing from my side - the only difference I've noticed with the two cards would be the framerate in ATI's favour (Not fair to put the GT up against the X850 anyways... big difference in class).

Oh, and windows takes a bit longer to load desktop (when booting) due to the fact that I sitll have the CCC installed.

Yup that's it then.....SOE, I'll second the longer loading for the desktop, but then again, if the card performs okay in the games, then I really can't complain I guess... Oh BF2 stuttered as well, but seems to be okay with the 5.10 drivers, as well as FEAR is also better. I'm also looking for an extra gb of ram, but I'll need to seel what I've got, and take to 1GB sticks.....Four double sided dimms can't do T1 except for the DFI Crossfire Board...the only mobo able to do it......I still wonder how they did it.
