You get the X1800XL...which need to be compaired to the 7800GT. Then you get the big brothers, the X1800XT which you can compair to the 7800GTX. The X1800XT...not XL is the fastest. then the 7800GTX then the 7800GT and short on the GT's heals will be the X1800XL..... Actuall the GT and XL is about the same......

Thats what I read too Voodoo... maybe i must just wait for the x1800xt...?

You can....and being in Europe it should not be too much of a wait. I personally am waiting for the 7800BTX 512, to see what that baby will do, but then again waiting and waiting is not always a good idea..........tomorrow will always bring something new.

I heard a bird singing that ATI is reducing their warrenty on the new cards...or something like that, and that makes me wonder. I stand to be corrected though.. I've got an ATI card at present, and it's okay. I can't really complain, except for the sad feeling, when I see Nvidia, the way it's meant to be played. I still like Nvidia, and I've never had a problem with ATI, except for their drivers.....but everything else, they are good.....and brilliant hardware...

ATI Drivers SUCK. Its always a hassle.

When I lived in mooinooi, 2 of my mates had ATI card, the rest of us Nvidia. The 2 dudes with ati (strangely enough also the only 2 peeps with INTEL CPUS...LOOL) had constant problems. Games just bombing out. Desktop auto resizing, drivers fooking out and all............

I have never had an ATI card... EVER. I still want to try one, but if the drivers are a hassle, then I will carry on going for nVidia.

Make no mistake......ATI is good, but what really don't help is that their drivers eat resources like mad, and increase loading times.

Guys guys guys.

Only the Catalyst Control Centre eats resources, you don't have to use them. You could just use the straight Control Panel which doesn't eat up resources.

And remember that ATI driver issues are hardly apparent these days.

I must say - I am still a nVidia fan. I'd rather have a 7800GTX than an ATI card... but there is nothing wrong with ATI cards.

It's not good to disregard excellent technology just because you are a fan of one team...

Honestly - I still have the most nostalgic respect for nVidia - but I learned that ATI have some monster cards out there, and my experience with them have only been positive.

You right on one side, and that would be the monster hardware...but as for drivers....I'm sorry SOE, but they lack a lot when you compair them to Nvidia. As for the catalyst control center...yup you can disable that, but you still sit with .net, and for who knows what. I'm getting really close to selling this card for the reason that it's not a mean overclocker, but that's just me. As for the rest, well it seems like the 5.10 drivers fixed some glitches I had, so I'll wait and see what the 5.11 can do....

My X850 runs at stock 540Mhz core and 589 memory (1178Mhz) and I pushed it only up to 580 and 600 (1200) respectively, but by doing so it performs actually worse. I know my mobo draws a chit load of power, but I've got an Antec True550 PSU and it runs okay. I'll see whn I get another PSU at some stage and see what difference it will make. I can maybe push it higher, but the dude I bought it from (Solo) only clocked it about the same. My scores is pretty decent in any case, but Aquamark3 is a lot more smooth on my 6800GT than on this card, but this card scores more because it's min FPS is better in in most places....

Strange - I use a 400watt and I get mucho better results when upping the clock frequencies.

But I get what you're saying - if I could get a 7800GTX I'd be a happy man

Personal experience often taints one's perception. It's human nature. And here is MY perception

I don't own anymore ATI cards, only nVidia, but I have this to say about ATI:

- Their normal drivers DO NOT require .net - .net is only required when using Catalyst Control Centre.

- Drivers are NOT an issue anymore and have not been for several months, in actual fact, I get more "anomolies" and whatnot from nVidia drivers than I did with ATI's drivers. Anybody that reckons ATI drivers are kak, is dogmatic and has obviously never worked with them before. Period. In actual fact, most people I've helped blamed ATI drivers when in fact the problem was elsewhere on their PC.

- Voodoo, SM3 support. Agreed, but any gamer knows that SM3 is a burden to one's system and does not really enhance anything that 2.0b can't do. The noticible improvment is debatable.

- ATI cards are wickedly powerful and I've had more constant framerate from them, than I've had with nVidia.

- 3rd Party Support: Nothing beats ATI Tray Tools. That is one awesome app... WHY THOUGH? Because they include tweaks and monitoring tools that are ACTUALLY USEFUL. It's easy to load buckets of tweaks that make an app look fancy, but how many does a person actually use and how many people actaully know what they do? ATI Tray Tools has earned my respect with lots of really useful tweaks. EG the total customisation of how the fans operate and the system tray temperature monitoring tool - to name just two.

But you see, once again it comes down to personal experience. And the above is based on exactly that.
