Guys please enlighten me on the differences on the Intel P4 Socket 478 and AMD Socket 939 processors... How come Intel can state that their processors is running at 3.2ghz and for the same price AMD is running at 2.2ghz? What is the best ones? Just some info guys would be appreciated! Thanks! |

Dude, going home now, will help you out tomorrow morning. AMD SOCKET 939 is the best BTW. And BTW. an amd 2.2 outruns a P4 3.2, by a long shot! |

I can't really say anything about Intel, mostly because it's been years since I've actually had one myself. As for AMD, yup many ppl complain that AMD is taking them for a ride, but in actual fact, the stated name for the processor like 3200+ A64 means it's equal in process power to an Intel at 3200 Mhz, but in actual fact, when talking about gaming, the A64 3200+ only running at 2000Mhz will outperform the Intel CPU clocked 1200Mhz more. That's why even Intel woke up and started their Dothan core, and later the Yonah or something like that core...... Intel is okay..make no mistake, and in some app will outperform the AMD cpu's, but gaming is mostly about the A64's and Dothan's from Intel. The A64's also runs a lot cooler.....then say the P4's That's about what I could say about it..... |

My Intel LGA-775 3.4Ghz runs at about 65 degrees under load. The AMD series of similarly-priced CPUs run at around 40 degrees under load. Pentium-M runs at around 30 degrees under load (but it's not yet really used for PCs, just laptops). I'm not sure, and my knowledge is very limited, but the Intel CPUs seem to emphasise longer pipelines. Pipelines are what CPUs use to break processes up into small parts of instructions. It then runs each part of the process through the CPU. This means the more of the CPU is used than if it was just executing one instruction at at time. There are, however, some problems with pipelining. Although it means the CPU is more efficient (in that more instructions are run at a time), there are also some problems. Sometimes, as with if-then statements, the outcome of the "if" cannot be determined. The CPU then tries to predict which path is more likely (which still isn't perfect, and an incorrect prediction causes the CPU to waste time completing a useless instruction. Intel seems to emphasise the pipelining part of CPUs, with (and I stand to correction) 20-30 pipline stages. AMD, on the other hand, has something like 12. That means that when there's an incorrect instruction, the AMD CPU wastes only 11 or so instructions, where the Intel one wastes 29-ish. But it also makes the Intel CPU more efficient with media stuff. I just warbled on there about stuff I don't actually know well, and there's probably a lot more, better, reasons why the AMD chip can outperform the Intel chip for the same price... |

AMD. You get much more bang for buck. AS explained to you, an XP3200 CPU like mine only runs at 2.2 ghz, but it outperforms or runs alongside an Intel P4 3200 With hyperthreading and 800mhz FSB, while the AMD is only 400FSB. If you go 64bit, you get 800FSB, and AMD Cpu's are the best performing cpu's for gaming. ITs a common fact dude! I would really recommend AMD. I was allways an Intel fanboy. I hated AMD, I seriously Dispised it. until I worked on the very first athlon SLot A That came out. IT was a 500mhz Monster, and it totally oblitirated any Intel you put before it. Before then end of that Month I was running that same AMD 500 MHZ Athon, and I have never looked back since! |

Dude - intel is great for multitasking applications etc but the AMD3000+ will whoop a pentium 3.0 ghz any day in gaming (or single task operations) |

Yep yep. The only reason I'm running Intel is that the bundle that came with it worked out cheaper. Something like, with the same price for the Intel system, I could get the AMD system minus the monitor. Or something. And I just didn't have the money... Also, only Intel systems run DDR2 at the moment. (Not that there's really much difference... but it's fun bragging about having 1Gb DDR2 RAM...) |

ITs fun braggin that I have faster DDR 400 Memory than any DDR2 memory chip avalable :lool: It's all about latencies baby! |

Maps....watch what you saying..... AMD is brinnging the new AMD AThlon M or something similar to the play ground, and they saying that the latest A64 CPU's late 2006 will be supporting DDR2, now that you'll start seeing DDR2 at over 1Ghz speeds, where the latency will start to make less of a n impact. As for now, latency is a big issue for A64 cpu's. And we'll see when DDR600 fully hit the market at respectable 2.5 3 3 7 or maybe 3 3 3 8 latencies. |
