The improvements mentioned suggest an up to 35 per cent increase in performance during Doom 3 gameplay using antialiasing at high resolutions. ATI has apparently improved the way its core communicates with the board's memory during AA processing. Interesting |

Anyone downloading the recently released ATI 5.10 Catalyst driver suite must have noticed the absence of any reference to the X1K range of boards. This came as a surprise to most since these cards are all ATI seems to talk about nowadays. According to a story on Hexus.net, citing ATI insiders as the source, the Canadians will unleash the full force of their nVidia fighting machines in version 5.11 of the drivers expected in November. The same sources claim that ATI will use the release to publicly introduce enhanced OpenGL support. This means that ATI expects that it will be able to surpass its rivals performance in games such as Doom 3, a title that carries the flag for the graphics API. The improvements mentioned suggest an up to 35 per cent increase in performance during Doom 3 gameplay using antialiasing at high resolutions. ATI has apparently improved the way its core communicates with the board's memory during AA processing. With Quake IV coming soon and expected to be very popular, ATI can ill-afford any delays in pledging its whole-hearted support for OpenGL and demonstrating how it can rival and even outperform nVidia, a company that has traditionally held the OGL crown. source: www.megagames.com |

Whatch what you saying SOE.........I'm still investigating the whole ATI is the faster card story. One really funnt thing I've noticed....ATI drivers chow resources, and increase my loading times.......and I'm not joking...it really feels that way. Further more, I've also seen that in one benchmark, namely Aquamark3, I scored with my 6800GT stock, same setup as now except screencard and mobo, 68000 sometimes touching 69000 and it runs as smooth as can be. Now on the X850XTPE, it has a very high lowest FPS, and the highest FPS is more or less in the same range as with the 6800GT, but it stutters here and there with no frame drop what so ever, and I score 78900 stock..... If I have one stutter with the 6800GT, I know my score will look bad, because my lowest FPS will be really low...... ANd BF2 on my 6800GT was 100% smooth except for loading swaps, but with the X850 it stutters. I did read though that some of the catalyst drivers on the X850XT are known to cause this isue.....LOOOOOOL once more... But all and all the card runs okay.... |
