Hey guys... have a look at my system, with the important bits highlighted in bold:

AMD64 socket 754 3000+
Chaintech Zenith VNF-3 nForce 3 + AGP mobo
AGP 6800 GT
512 megs DDR400
Etc etc

OK. So now PCI-e is basically standard. In other words - my next upgrade would have to be either a PCI-e graphics card OR a PCI-e motherboard.

Problem is I have to get BOTH otherwise I can't use them! If I get a PCI-e mobo I have no use for it because I don't have a PCI-e graphics card and vice versa.

***

And I'm not a rich man!

Seems my next upgrade is almost impossible - I also have to go for Socket 939 because sticking to 754 would be stupid, don't you think?

In other words - I have to replace every single part in my PC for my next upgrade!!! It's crazy!!!

It seems the ONLY way to do this is to sell my entire PC and see what I can get for that price - but even then I will be selling myself short.

Any advice?

SOE, I know some ppl say it came a little late, but I'm almost certain that I've heard about some PCI E mother boards for socket 754

Here's a link to an ASUS one, but google it and you'll find a couple of them....

But wouldn't it be a waste to buy a PCI-e board that's socket 754?

Dude. Save up to buy yourself an PCI-E Mobo, and a CPU.An AMD Xp3500 CPU and an A8nSLI-D mobo will set you back R3000. Sell your GT. You CAN get around R2200 -> R2500 For it. Take that money and buy a second hand PCI-X 6800 GT!

I'll have to do what mappie says - save up for a mobo + cpu then sell my 6800 or swap it for a PCI-e
