ATI Launches X1000 Family of GPUs ATI Technologies has launched the Radeon X1000 series, a new family of graphics processors. The company maintains that the top-to-bottom family built using 90-nanometer semiconductor fabrication technology, delivers better performance and image quality as compared to previous GPUs. The Radeon X1000 has a GPU that targets a wide range of people and hopes to suit the needs of those just getting into the gaming mode, or those who are interested in editing photos and videos. ATI maintains that customers who want all of the features and capabilities of the Radeon X1800 and Radeon X1600 but who are on a budget, would do well to go in for the Radeon X1300 which is priced at $79. The GPUs feature ultra-threaded shader architecture to run today's shader-intense games, and a new memory architecture that makes the GPUs efficient. Graphics cards powered by Radeon X1000-series GPUs, will be available from ATI and its board partners. Radeon X1800 and Radeon X1300 cards are shipping immediately, and Radeon X1600 cards will be shipped in October and November. Rich Heye, vice president and general manager - desktop discrete products, ATI Technologies, said, "The Radeon X1000 family of GPUs was designed to be the best and it is the best. In terms of gaming performance, it is the fastest; in terms of image quality, it is the best looking; in terms of features, it is the richest." Source: www.techtree.com |

It's basically just a wee bit better than the 7800 - but twice the price almost. nVidia seems to have the upper hand, mostly cause their next chip arrives in January... |

WHere it's a lot quicker than the 7800GTX sometimes even double the speed is in FEAR....so the card should be something special, but look at the bloody core clock and mem clock. I know two dudes already clocked the core up to 865 or so and memory 990 (so it's 1880Mhz) and brilliant samsung 1.6 something nano seconds.....and they got 12K in 3D Mark05 with one ard. I'll get the link now..... |

Amazing - we'll have to check our options when the cards are cheaper! |

I hate...and I mean hate ATI's drivers, but their hardware is brilliant. I just think with the X1800's stock clocks they should piss all over Nvidia's 7800GTX, but frankly, I can't really see that. Here's the link though.... http://www.bjorn3d.com/read.php?cID=843&pageID=1802 |

But you see - nVidia's 7 series GPU's aren't about high clockspeed, its about extra pipes for pumping pixels ;) |

Stupid ATI..........LOL Hey Maps....Im in the process of organising an ATI X850 XT PE for R2500.00, and I'm gonna take it. I want to see what the big fuss is all about, why ATI they say is sooooooo fast and look soooo nice. |

I know... I just hate the drivers. Will get another Harddrive and do a mirror of my current setup and see performance differences and visuals and so on, and will pass comments on that then. |

I think 5.8 drivers no longer use the stupid CLI.exe thing running in the background, which means you have your 60+Mb of RAM back... I'm just @ssuming that, because I'd edited my registry to get rid of the CLI thing, and when I installed the drivers from the October NAG disc it didn't restore any of the stuff... So yeah. Get the latest drivers, and your resource hogging problems are solved. I think. :) |
