Alright I was wondering. Can I use those feats with a bow? I know you need one hand free and in my mind, a bow only requires one hand(to hold). Now assuming you're fired upon when it is not your turn, your bow will not be knocked (unless you told your dm otherwise) which means you have one arm free. Would that work? or would I have to drop the bow?

no, you wouldnt be able to shoot it back

SNATCH ARROWS [GENERAL]

Prerequisites: Dex 15, Deflect Arrows, Improved Unarmed Strike.

Benefit: When using the Deflect Arrows feat you may catch the weapon instead of just deflecting it. Thrown weapons can immediately be thrown back at the original attacker (even though it isn’t your turn) or kept for later use.

You must have at least one hand free (holding nothing) to use this feat.

Special: A fighter may select Snatch Arrows as one of his fighter bonus feats.

Remember, this is not like Final Fantasy 10 where everyone is waiting around as the battle is executing. in the same six seconds, everything is happening. So, even if you are not attacking, within those six seconds you were, meaning the arrow coming at you would be happening as you were readying an attaack out with your bow. Only if you are attacked before the bow is in hand or if you specifically say you will wait until the end of initiative so make you attack; then you would be able to use it with a bow in hand, because then everythin gis concluding as you are begining your attack, meaning your hands are free durifg the whole round to deflect and catch the arrow.

Ah, makes sence. Assuming that I'm a "tank" and that I would be needed in battle the feats I have at the moment are slightly useless. Though I can make due with them. Also can you deflect and snatch arrows with a whip since you can grapple with the whip?(assuming your dex is godly....)

it says you can only use this feat with your hand (which is why you need one hand free) but there IS a subsitution for the feat.

spinning defense is the same as deflect arrows, but you need a staff or polearm to use, and you cant snatch them, but there is no maximum of how many arrows you can deflect, unlike the regular feat you may only deflect one per turn

as for whipping an arrow and catchin it...it makes absolutely NO sence. arrows are slim wood, whips arent too flexible so they wouldnt be able to wrap around it, im sure trev would let you DEFLECT it with a whip though

Hmm, even with the arrow situation I was wrong. Keeping within the boundries of what I can do, I would not allow you to deflect, catch, and shoot back an arrow in a single action. However, I will revise what I said before. I will allow you to deflect and catch the arrow, though not giving you the free attack. ( if you have a bow in hand, nor will you be able to throw back projectiles such as spears, but you can still deflect them (not catch though, because your hands are somewhat burdened)). So, with a bow in hand you can deflect both arrows and projectiles, but can only catch arrows, and you do not gain the extra attack in either case. You can use the just caught arrow as your next availible attack though (as normal).

With a whip I would allow you to deflect the arrow and bring it down by your feet, but not return an attack with it (like in ragnarok).

so thats where he got the idea from? ragnarok?

well anyway, i think its still kinda wierd just DEFLETCING an arrow with a whip, alluming youd likely BREAK the arrow, but whatever.

be happy with being able to bring it to your feet so you could just pick it up..muhah

*lyth whips arrow to the floor and is about to bend over to pick it up* (orcs) "OMFG, ATTACKS OF OPPURTUNITY LOLOL!" - (lyth) "...eep" *SMASH*

Yesh. You could make a PrC called Vulcan or something that allows ranged attacks with a whip... would be interesting.
