Carbuncle Tiny Magical Beast Hit Dice: 1d8+1 Initiative:+5 Speed: 20ft/60ft (fly) Armor Class: 19 (10+1small+3natural+5dex) Base Attack/Grapple: +1/-2 Attack: Slam (1d4-3) Full Attack: Slam(1d4-3) Space/Reach: 2.5/2.5 Special Attacks: Blinding Light Special Qualities: levitation, telepathy, empathy, aid, divination Saves:Ref+7, Will+3,Fort+1 Abilities: Str 5, Dex 20, Con 12, Int 6, Wis 12, Cha 12 Enviroment: Any Organization: Solitary Challenge Rating: 1/3 Treasure: 1Gem Alignment: Chaotic neutral Advancment: nil Level Adjustment: nil A small creature is seen floating about the forest, with a look of complete content. It's tiny body is covered in a bluish-green fur, which looks very soft. It has a long tail with a feathering effect at the end. As it turns to you, you can see a large red gem in it's forehead between it's two lively black eyes. A moment later, you loose sight of the creature. A carbuncle is a mischivious creature who is at complete ease in most situations. A carbuncle is both able to run with it's strong hind legs and smaller front paws as well as levitating at will. It chooses the latter more often when not endangered. Though it's animalistic intelligence does not premit it to know or retain much, a carbuncle is able to precive situations very well. A carbuncle is ever curious, and as such it often follows adventurers, learning and preciving what happens around it. A carbuncle, once it has choosen it's new group of adventurers, will present itself to them. If it ever is noticed before hand and it is aware of this, it will not join that party. A carbuncle is both a blessing and a bane on those it stays with. With it's limited knowledge of the direct future and it's natural aura of luck and fortune, it is quick to learn that the carbuncle is an asset. One must be warned though, with all good the carbuncle brings, it also brings a bane. It unknowing of death and it ever-curious nature will cause it to create situations from which it can be amused and sataite it's curiosity. It does this by giving telepathic messages to party members, which may cause any sort of distruption and it is even known to agitate near-by monsters into fighting the party. After which, it will watch from a safe distance. Though it does not wish harm upon it's party, it knows not better for it has no sense of death. A carbuncle can will itself dead at any situation, given it feels threatened. Levitation: A carbuncle can use Levitation as the spell at will. This is it's favored for of travel. Telepathy: A carbuncle can use Telepathy as the spell at will. It uses this ability to introduce itself to it group initially. It has a childish "voice" and uses simple vocabulary. Empathy: A carbuncle can use Empathy as the spell at will. This is how it is able to size-up all of thsoe it encounters. Aid: A carbuncle can, at will, confer a +1 modifier to any roll. This is used completey randomly, as the suspense excites the carbuncle most. Divination: The carbuncle has a limited version of the divination spell which is always active. A carbuncle can "see" the future, which gives it a +2 to each of the rolls is needs to make. He can also use his telepathy to confer this bonus upon it's party because it also can see their future. Blinding Light: A carbuncle is able to release a blinding light from the gem on it's forehead DC 13 or all wihtin a 50ft cone will be blinded. Useable 3/day. Will Death: A carbuncle can will itself to -10 hitpoints at any point it wishes. After it does this, It cannot be contacted in any way, cannot be brought back to life in any way, and cannot be used as a corpse. |

Ah, not quite. As was stated, they choose who they will party with, while a familiar is summoned to the mage. Also, remember that a carbuncle is a fortune and a folly, so be carful of what you wish for. |

Carbuncle is a fary-tale creature. It is also found in various Final Fantasy games. It is also published in some Dungeons adn Dragons books. Not exactly like a pesudo-dragon. Also, would you trust a creature that can will itself dead to be the holder of one of your caster levels? (when a mages familiar dies, the mage looses one full level.) |

no dude that would probaly fall under it knack for curisoty than its conception of death.
i think its works that if the carbuncle is surrounded by the orges and feels threated then it will 'will' itself dead |

Depends... What you said sam is right. The only thing you need to know, is that it is not easily spooked, and often willingly goes to groups of monsters to implant telepatic reasons for them to attack the party it is with. By anychance that the carbuncle feels that the monsters will attack him or that he may die, he will "will" himself dead. It does not, however, do this hastily. As to what you said Liam, yes, it may very well go and check out those ogres out of pure curiosity. It may even stay with then for a long while, as long as it never feels threatened. It will use all other methods before it wills itself dead. Meaning, against ogres it may just levitate all the way up out of threat range. |
