CHARACTER DOCUMENTATION Character Name: Darcy Lenor Cromwell Character Nickname: Dee, and numerous, less pleasant nicknames Character Age: 16 Character Year: 6th House/Alumni: Ravenclaw [if not, then either Gryffindor or Hufflepuff will suffice]
Physical Appearance:- Darcy Lenor Cromwell stands at an even five feet and eight inches, and rather likes her height. However, due to her height Darcy finds herself lacking in curves, and posesses a very willowy figure, with a narrow, trim waist and hipbones that protrude ever so slightly. Her bust is there, though not much of a 'focal point' at all. Darcy sometimes wishes that her bust was a little larger, a little more noticeable, a little more 'everything', but nevermind that. She has learned to be thankful for what she's got!
Unlike some of her peers, Darcy has never had to battle with bad skin, and instead has a very soft, alabaster-white complexion, though she doesn't look vampiric or anything of the sort. Upon first glance, one might notice her oval-shaped face, blonde hair and vibrant blue eyes, though they are the basic details of her appearance. Her face, though indeed oval shaped, is soft in appearance, with gentle curves and no angular or sharp lines. Her face is not heartshaped exactly, though definitely has that sort of feel, with her chin coming to a rounded point.
Darcy's blond locks are usually worn long and wavy, sometimes curly, around her face and shoulders. Yes, blonde hair is overused and so 'common', but Darcy likes her hair and doesn't believe in changing what you've been given. Plus, her actual hair colour is more gold than blonde anyway. Darcy takes time to carefully comb any tangles out of her hair, leaving the locks soft with a luxurious feel. Now, that isn't to say she's a girl who preens over herself for hours in a mirror, not in the least! In fact, Darcy usually dislikes people who spend hours obsessing over their own reflection in a mirror.
Now, her eyes are almond in shape, and are framed by long, burnished gold lashes. The colour of the irises of her eye are a more complicated colour, however. Overall, they could be described as blue, though upon closer inspection, one can see shades of green and brown around the pupil, creating an almost hazel appearance around the rim of the iris and around the pupil. Inbetween the rim of the iris and the pupil, however, Darcy's eyes are a clear cobalt blue, a colour which can appear almost grey in some light. In a way, Darcy's eyes are 'multi-toned', though is is true for all eyes.
As for her facial features, Darcy posesses soft lips, which are not too large and definitely not beestung or overly plump. Her lips are usually coated in an almost translucent pink lipbalm, as she can sometimes suffer from chapped lips as she loves spending time outside, even in the cold, wet weather of Winter. Darcy doesn't see the need for miles of makeup, and finds that less is more. On occasion, she will enhance her eyes with mascara and coat her lips with a jazzy lipstick or lipgloss, but only if she feels like making the effort. On a usual schoolday, though, Darcy wears a minimal amount of face powder, a very small amount of blusher, and her lipbalm. Darcy's cheekbones are not overly high, though nor are they sunken. They are noticeable, though not angular, and blend in nicely with the overall roundness of her face. She can look younger and more innocent than the rest of her peers, though don't be entirely fooled by her blonde hair and blue eyes, for she is no angel. Sorry to let you down.
Clothing-wise, Darcy wears whatever she feels like, from dresses to drainpipe jeans and a ripped shirt to a pair of purple corduroys and a tanktop, it all depends on what she feels like wearing. She is a fan of the colours blue, red, and purple, though she will wear other colours if she finds them attractive enough. She also likes the colour brown, and is a sucker for brown eyes and brown hair.
Personality and Traits:- If one was to use a single word to describe Darcy, it would be 'intellectual', for she is a highly intelligent, bright and smart individual, anf grew up loving books, reading them at any oppertunity. However, naturally there is more to her personality than first meets the eye.
Friendly to those who know her, and slightly distant to those who don't, Darcy is not exactly an extrovert. She leans on the more introverted side if one had to choose, though she doesn't mind this. Darcy would rather choose books instead of parties, though that doesn't say she hasn't been drunk a few times with her close friends. Like anyone, Darcy can have fun when she wants to, but she knows how to knuckle down and study hard to get good grades in her exams. Darcy, unlike many, knows where to draw the line where alcohol and such is concerned. Some of her friends, on the other hand, constantly get drunk and stoned.
Although Darcy is a very complex person, people tend to take one look at her and think that they have her sorted out. She's Darcy, the girl who rarely gets angry, who doesn't really get bothered by people making remarks about her protruding hips and 'weird' eyes, but in fact, she is bothered by the comments and she does get angry. Usually, she'll bite on her lip or chew on the inside of her cheek, keeping her anger locked up and bottled inside, but she can only keep things bottled up for so long. On occasion, someone will push her over the edge, and she will quite literally explode in a tornado-like temper, screaming her lungs out. People tend not to make so many comments to her now, and the bullying she suffered in her third, fourth and fifth year about her 'lanky legs' has mainly stopped. Darcy's parents always told her that she was bullied because of jealousy, though Darcy never believed that for a second.
Why on earth would anyone be jealous of her? Ah well.
Darcy could be called sweet, though really, she can be a little bit horrible now and then if she has been having a bad day and someone confronts her over something. She can also get quite snappy due to lack of sleep. Most people get like that, though, so it isn't anything major. Darcy doesn't 'act' sweet in the slightest, though people tend to call her sweet because she tends to be polite to her professors and fellow housemates. A lot goes on in her mind, though, and though she may not be acting sweet to your face and thinking horrible thoughts about you, she can act like that sometimes, because she overanalyses other people and what they do.
She will observe a person, see what they are like with others, and start making judgements about them in her head before even talking to them. For example, if she sees a person being kind and helpful to another, she will automatically like them, and if she sees someone being absolutely horrible or bullying another person, then she will automatically dislike them greatly, and has been known on occasion to intervene, though it is rare nowadays for her to do so as the last time she tried to help someone who was getting bullied, she was sent to the hospital wing with a broken nose and a split lip.
Darcy suffered through a lot of bullying from her first year through to her fifth, because she has always been rather tall and long-legged, earning her the nickname 'lankylegs' and other such things, and the other nicknames are far more vulgar and insulting. Even students from her own house joined in with the bullying, adding insult to injury. The bullying, in a way, had caused her to have somewhat of a bitter outlook on life, though it has not severely warped her mind. However, needless to say, the years of bullying has indeed had an impact on her, especially seeing as some of the bullying was physical, people kicking out at her legs in the corridors, leaving her with big fat bruises on her calfs, ankles and knees.
Introverted and intelligent, though, are two words that could be used to describe Darcy, and even though she can be friendly and open to the people she likes, people tend to confuse her introversion as shyness, though it is anything but. She just...doesn't like some people from the offstart and therefore doens't really bother trying to get to know them. In her mind, it is up to them to bridge the gap if they are really so interested to know her. The few relationships she has had over her years at Hogwarts have all ended rather badly, and have left her feeling rather ugly, as her boyfriends have all tended to leave her for prettier girls. Bah. Men.
Background/Family History:- Benedict Cromwell was born to a pureblooded wizard and a muggleborn witch, Lionel and Marianne Cromwell, and though his mother's heritage was looked down upon, his father enabled him to have the best of the best in life. The Cromwell name was a very well respected one, and although Benedict was virtually halfblooded, many people assumed him to be pureblood due to his dark, handsome good looks. Whilst studying at Hogwarts, he met a young woman by the name of Ophelia Swanfield, a pureblooded witch who came from a very influential line of Wizards and witches. Both were Ravenclaws, and although Ophelia was a year younger than he was, the two were instantly smitten.
Upon graduation of Hogwarts, the two married, and though Ophelia's family were less than happy, they all turned up for the small wedding held at a hill-top chapel in Scotland. The wedding was quaint, nothing lavish, but the two lovebirds were very happy with it. They left for their honeymoon, and within months Ophelia revealed that she was pregnant.
Darcy Lenor Cromwell was born on the fifth of September to Benedict and Ophelia nine months after their wedding, and needless to say they were two very proud parents. Darcy had clearly inherited Ophelia's golden hair and unusual coloured eyes, instead of Benedict's brown ones.
For the first year, Darcy was the apple of her parents eyes, but then, unexpectedly, Ophelia fell pregnant, this time with twins. Her parents had to cope with three young children, though they managed, and hired nannies and cleaners to help with all the chores, though Ophelia herself did most of the caring. Darcy had a relatively happy childhood, though she constantly had to share her attention with her fellow siblings.
When Tobias came along, Darcy felt a little pushed out, and took solace in her books and poetry, and loved the works of Edgar Allen Poe, Wordsworth, Shakespeare, Tolkein, Pratchett, and C.S Lewis. Even Sir Arthur Conan Doyle fueled her imagination with his imaginative and creative books. Darcy was an avid reader, though she also loved taking walks outside and riding her horse, Paddington, a black and white paint. She doesn't ride as much as she used to now, but she still has Paddington, her pride and joy, and when at home she takes him for long hacks on the beach or across the countryside.
Darcy's imagination would often run rampant and she would play amazing games with her siblings, and being the oldest, she was left with the responsibility of making sure no harm came to any of them.
However, when Darcy turned eleven, she recieved a letter from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. She had been invited to attend a school of magic! Her parents, Benedict and Ophelia were as proud as punch to find out that their daughter was a witch, and went to Diagon Alley with her to buy all of her school supplies.
Darcy found that Hogwarts was not such a fantastic place to be, however. It wasn't because of the classes, for she found them easy...no, it was because of the incessant bullying. See, Darcy had always been tall, and the students of Hogwarts found it amusing to poke fun at her long, skinny legs. Nowadays, she has filled out a little more though still lacks 'curves', and the bullying has started to stop and quiet down, but the damage was done.
Now, in her sixth year, Darcy hopes to put the bullying behind her and get on with her life.
