CHARACTER DOCUMENTATION Character Name: Terrence Finneas Godderick Character Nickname: None. His mother calls him Terry but he doesn't acknowledge her when she does. Character Age: Seventeen Character Year: Seventh House/Alumni: Ravenclaw Physical Appearance: Terrence used to be a person that took pride in his appearance. He would always be neat and clean, will pressed clothing and an aura that made all other’s look like disgusting bums. When someone hears that they’re the most beautiful person in the world, though, they start to question themselves – and to this, Terrence was no exception. He used to find himself painfully attractive, and now, he questions and compares himself to his peers. Is he really as good-looking as everyone claims him to be? Now, he’s not so sure. At least, in recent months, he’s slowly started to grow into his appearance. His appearance is no where near as androgynous as it once was, and he resembles more of a young man that a pre-puberty girl. Terrence no longer has the obligation of dressing himself, either. His mother mails him every morning and helps him pick out a suitable outfit – and when she is not available, a friend helps him. To say that he is inept when it comes to fashion is a minor understatement; he can’t match colors and is poor at putting two good pieces together. Still lanky, skinny, and with a body reminiscent of a pre-puberty girl, Terrence has always prided himself on the fact that he puts in as little effort as possible to stay as lean as he is. His mother adamantly demands that he run, or take up a membership at a gym, but he refuses – she, for some reason, thinks he’s obese. His hipbones, knees, ankles, collarbones and wrists protrude due to his lack of body fat, though he does not look unhealthy – just too small for someone of his age. He has recently grown, however, and now stands at least six-foot-one. His facial features, on the other hand, have hardly changed a bit. Terrence still has the same weak cheekbones, awkwardly feminine nose and well-sized, shapely lips, but… they fit him now, as mentioned before. He doesn’t look younger the he is. For the most part, he looks the same, just as if his life experiences have caught up with him and caused him to age several years. If anything, he looks much older then his mere seventeen years. The highlight of Terrence’s appearance, however, would be his bright blonde hair – something that he inherited right out of thin air. As far back as can be traced, all of the Godderick’s have had dark brown or black hair. Terrence and his younger cousin, Edolie, are the exceptions to this. Both were born with full heads of bright blonde hair. Recently, though, Terrence has had to dye his – much to his dismay. Now, though, it is simply much blonder then before – to the point that it has less pigment then his frightfully pale skin. While his hair is often the thing that people notice first, the next would be his eyes – they’re a bright blue gray that offers up an intellectual, intelligent look. While he embraces Muggle contacts, Terrence will sometimes wear his glasses, despite the fact that he doesn’t like them – it’s only recently that he has had eye problems and is still beginning to adjust. Personality and Traits: Painstakingly unfriendly, people who come into contact with the oldest Godderick will easily come to learn that he is far from the friendliest person in the world. In fact, he’d be in contention for the least friendly. He lacks the ability to be civil when it is required, and the things that come out of his mouth are often cruel and degrading to whomever he is speaking to. This lack of civility is spurred by a bad childhood, though if ever asked about it, Terrence will simply shrug his shoulders. He doesn’t like to think that his actions and reactions are caused by the way that people had treated him, and thusly, pretends as if he has molded himself into the cold, cruel, uncaring person that he has become. There are people in the world, however, the appeal to the softer, caring side of Terrence – though they are few in number, they are exposed to the bright, funny, engaging young man that he can be. But again, this is rare, and to see Terrence in such a state – unguarded and open to the world – is something that would be impossible to prove to someone who had not witnessed it themselves. By his mother, Terrence has been told more then once that he should attempt to warm up to the world, and once, he decided to take the woman’s advice, simply because he pitied her. This ended with him angry and hurt, and thusly, pity was replaced with contempt. A regal, arrogant air is always carried about Terrence, and it is something that he has come by naturally. After living in a house where he was hardly acknowledged, it is surprising that he has as much self-confidence as he does – it was suspected that he would be insecure and testy for the whole of his life. Instead, he holds all of his accomplishments (and even his failures) up on a pedestal, as if they are the most splendid things in the world. In short, Terrence thinks himself better then all and worse then none – even his friends are viewed in this same mindset. While he does have a small amount of friendly acquaintances, he views them as people lower then he is, and holds them to the same impossibly high standards. He finds that the word grants him no pity and forgiveness, and thusly offers none to the people around him. Because of this, he is also painfully loyal. He sticks close to the people that he is friends with, enough to say that he is dependent on them. However, he still has little trouble seeing their flaws and, is possible, is harder on them then he is on anyone else. He expects them to be perfect, every day, no matter the situation. As a young child, Terrence didn’t partake in games and foolishness, and this is one of the many qualities that has carried forward with age. To this day, he cares very little for childishness and stupidity, and people who exude those two qualities are immediately scoffed upon. To him, if a person is well-read and intelligent, then they are someone that he could see himself spending time with, as his own intelligence level is astronomically high. Terrence enjoys this fact, and while he only finished third in his last year (two positions too low, if someone was to ask him), he still counts himself as one of the most intelligent people Hogwarts had seen. However, it was Terrence’s vicious demand and need to be right that earned him third spot. During the middle of a Divination lesson, Terrence got into an argument with the Professor, and after she proved him wrong, he vowed never to attend the class again – and he didn’t. It hurt his marks considerably. Nevertheless, his fondness for reading has carried forth. When he is not studying, or spending time with a friend, Terrence will often allow himself the luxury of getting lost in a good book. He also takes rather kindly to word and number puzzles, finding that they broaden his knowledge of the Muggle world. Though by no means shy, Terrence is quiet and reclusive, specifically when in large groups. He does not fear said groups, but instead finds the people he is around him too inferior to hear his opinion. Still, even when with friends, he is far from talkative. Terrence likes for his words to be neatly articulated and planned, and even with posed with a question, he will think over the consequences of his reply and decisively tell his opinion to someone – with how much thought he puts into his responses, it is surprising how quickly he replies. Nevertheless, since the beginning of his seventh year, Terrence’s tendency to revert to silence had… faded, if only a bit. He is now much more willing to speak, sometimes even if it is just to hear his own voice. The real reason behind this is obscure – few people know that his opening up can actually be traced to two of the people that Terrence spent a fair bit of his time with, a best friend and a… well, girl friend, maybe? Terrence and said girl’s relationship status was never clearly defined, and whenever someone mentions her, he will immediately become bitter and angry. It is his own way of, if slowly, getting over her. Everything that Terrence comes into contact with goes under a microscope, and as if is rather cynical, it is almost impossible for him to believe that someone is being genuine with him. He believes that all people’s actions are put into motion by their own selfishness, and it is rare for him to see the good in something. To put it bluntly, Terrence is a pathological skeptic. He challenges everything that is handed to him and will believe nothing without proof. Because of this, it is easy to see why he believes in no higher power or God – instead, Terrence is a strongly against religion, finding that it is just another way to stereotype and analyze people. A strong misanthropist, Terrence has a deep-seeded dislike for anything that is alive. He believes that is it lives, there is someway that it will be able to hurt him, which leads us to his inner-turmoil. After a childhood like his, it is easy to say that Terrence has placed a wall up around himself, one which few people can get passed. Inwardly, Terrence is not as cold and stony as he outwardly seems. He is dependent and needy, clingy and vulnerable. And yet, he is always the same stubborn, pig-headed boy that he was when he was younger. He had yet to lose his temper and still, on occasion, resorts to violence, something that he has always done. Background/Family History: TThe first-born son of Edvard and Emma Godderick, Terrence was never the clichéd oldest child – instead of being the one that his parents doted upon, it was Terrence’s younger brother and only sibling Sebastian that got all of the attention. The twins, separated by three minutes and fourteen seconds, have always been at war with each other to win the approval of their parents, and it has always been Sebastian that has won. The two Godderick grew up under the watchful eye of their mother and aunt, who lived next-door, as their father was rarely home and was often away on business. Not eight months after the twins were born, another member of the family was introduced, thusly stripping Sebastian of his title of ‘the youngest Godderick’. As they grew, Terrence was enticed with the idea that a simple child could make Sebastian become a pouting, whining mess, and was instantly clinging to his younger cousin. However, by the time that Terrence was five, and his younger cousin four, she was beginning to develop more of her own personality, and she too kinder to Sebastian. Still angry with her from her ‘betrayal’, as Terrence calls it, the two of them have never mended ends, and instead of it being Terrence vs. Sebastian, it’s Terrence vs. Sebastian and Edolie. On their sixth birthday, the twins’ mother decided that she was going to take them to Paris to visit their father, where he was working. She was under the impression that he was staying with a friend, as the fare for a hotel would’ve been too high. When Emma arrived at the doorstep with Sebastian and her side and Terrence rocking small pebbles at her brother, she was hit with reality – this wasn’t a friend’s house. It was his house; his other house, and it was filled with several other children and a woman that put Emma to shame. Heart-broken and embarrassed, Emma fled back to Teddington, where the family had lived, and sold the house and many of the family’s belongings, save the things that her children wished to keep. They moved in with Edvard’s brother and his wife, Damien and Coralline, as Damien swore to never speak to his brother after the incident. However, this ruined any chance of Terrence having a happy childhood – Edolie was Damien and Coralline’s only child, and their former feud was only made worse by them living under the same roof. In the years that past between their sixth and eleventh birthdays, most of their days consisted of Edolie and Terrence screaming at each other, whether they were at school (all three, despite their heritage, were forced into Muggle Public Schools. Terrence didn’t want to go, and called the Muggle ‘dirty, filthy things’, and his mother nearly killed him. Nearly.) or at home. Once, when Terrence was nearly nine, he and Edolie got into a fist fight, and not surprisingly, Edolie won. Ever since then, she’s often rubbed that fact in Terrence’s face, making him resent her more then he already did. Several other times, Edolie hit Terrence with various objects, or would do something bad and then make him take the blame. When Terrence and Sebastian turned eleven, however, they were the recipients of two acceptance letters to Hogwarts. Sebastian was put out – he wished to stay home and make fun of Terrence. But, the older twin was enthralled. The school was his ticket away from the family he hated (save his mother. He loves her). However, the peace that the school offered was only stable for a year, as in their second year, Edolie started to attend Hogwarts, too. Terrence, however, was able to avoid her with skill and cunning – in fact, the two hardly spoke at all, save for a verbal argument they got into during breakfast one morning. While Sebastian and Edolie returned home at Christmas, Terrence didn’t – he instead chose to live out the holidays in the school library, and even went to the extreme to lock away all of the Christmas presents he ever received. To this day, there has only been one that he has opened. It was a clean, pale chestnut teddy bear that had been purchased at a Muggle ‘Build-A-Bear’, and it had been sent to him by his father. Secretly, this is the one inanimate object that Terrence loves, and he only brings it out in the security of his dormitory when no one is watching. The rest of his years at Hogwarts were the same. For several years, he was first in his year, excelling in all of the electives that Hogwarts offered. Lately, that has floundered only a bit – at the end of his sixth year, Terrence was third, and is content with that placing; he’s never been competitive enough to care. At the end of his sixth year, Terrence also emancipated himself, mostly because his mother would not let him move out on his own without Sebastian (and he refused to leave, the puss). Thusly, Terrence owns his own flat in Fulham, which has been paid for by his father and is rented out when he is at school. The two have only contacted each other through letters, and it nearly destroyed Terrence’s pride to contact him and ask him to pay for the flat.
