Meg walked into the Student Courtyard, not being able to believe that the entire Ravenclaw Common Room just had to have a lot of people in it. It wasn't as if the common room never had a lot of people in it. But, it just seemed as if there were more people than usual. Almost like every student in the house managed to be in the common room all at the same time. It wasn't that likely, but she guessed that it could happen, just like it did now. Not only was it too crowded, but also too noisey. With all of those people in there, they managed to create a big type of ruckus.

Meg was carrying a book with her. The reason for why she even came out to the Courtyard was just so she could read. Well, also to get out of the Common Room for a while, but it was more so she could read. Or, atleast be in peace at that moment. Big crowds of people tend to make a lot of noise, and not able to hold peace for that long. The only way piece could be achieved was if a Professor came into the Common Room. Otherwise, who knew?

Meg was wearing a nice blue blouse, a black skirt that reached down to her knees. Her brown hair with dirty blonde highlights went on a length down to her upper back. Her light brown eyes looked around the courtyard. She noticed a bench not too far away. She shrugged lightly, and walked over to the bench. She sat down on it, and opened up her book. She began to read.

The wind blew in a puzzling matter, the chill of it serving its purpose for it was making the brunette student, who was advancing towards a large tree adorned with brown leaves, very cold. Overhead, the loud chirp of birds filled the still air, their songs sounding annoying, despite the fact that the girl had always sought pleasure from them. No one had gathered around the student courtyard, which was quite surprising. True, the weather might not have been the most agreeable, but still, since when did the weather bother anyone at this school? Heaven knows majority of them could magic themselves a warming charm, or something of the like. Still, no ripples had formed upon the lakes surface, the murky waters stretching out a vast distance. It seemed that the day would be quite pleasing for the squid that inhabited the lake, stories telling of how it ate poor, helpless students as its meal. If only the raven-haired girl had brought her sketchbook, perhaps she could sketch the scenery, the image turning out to be bare, isolated, and harsh, much like paintings that were done with no emotion, or done in a hurry. A painting, no matter how bad it turned out, had to make a point, a point that required much thinking, a point that required a feeling. Paintings were photographs that didn't just click and boom, boom you had your image. No, paintings were photographs that took time because the painter saw something in this image, something valid, and only that valid something made a painting beautiful, even if they were miscellaneous scribbles on a white canvas.

Elle MacMillan glanced ahead, her chestnut eyes narrowing at the sight of the brown leaves that scattered themselves about her path. Desperately, she needed a place to sit, a place to just unwind and let go, which is why she chose a large bench as her resting spot. Today had been a terrible day. For one, she had passed her potions test, yes, but not with flying colors. Why she had failed it, she did not know. It had taken her many tedious hours to prepare for that damned test, just to have a shitty outcome. A loud sigh escaped her lips as she placed both feet upon a large rock, bringing forward her upper body so that her elbows could rest comfortably upon her knees. Seeing nothing better to do, Elle’s eyes scanned over the area, a soft smile pulling at her lips as she spotted a young girl sitting beside her on the bench. She had gorgeous brown hair with blonde highlights, and innocent eyes. Her face made her look sweet, like someone who didn’t bother with people much as to avoid trouble. “What book is that?” Elle questioned the girl as she pointed at the book in the girl’s lap with her head, trying to start up conversation. “It’s big for someone your age. You must be smart.”

Meg sat there, reading her book. The book was actually a muggle book that she had picked up before the school year begin. She had a stack of these books up in her dorm. Contrary to the popular opinion, they all weren't just muggle novels. Some were of course. But, she also had other books. For example, she had picked up a couple of Wizarding books on her way to the school. Some being informative, and others being actual Wizarding novels. She had also picked up artistic books. Yes, Meg was an artist, who had of yet to actually develop a style of painting that she actually liked. Therefore, she was using the books as a guide of all sorts. The guide was to help her study other artists to hopefully help her with her own painting eventually. She hoped that it was going to work, but at that particular moment, she wasn't reading one of those books.

Meg pushed a piece of her brown hair with blonde highlights behind her ear as she read. She was engrossed with her reading, and didn't even notice the fact that a girl had actually came over to where she was sitting, and had sat down. Things like that happened a lot when she was too engrossed in what ever she was doing. She had just tried to make sure that it didn't happen often. That was all. She looked up suddenly when the girl that had sat next to her that she didn't notice starting to talk. "Oh, hi," she said to the girl with a smile. "A muggle book, entitled, A Tale of Two Cities, by Charles Dickins," she replied as she looked at the girl. She shrugged lightly, and smiled. "Thanks, and I guess I am," she said. She held out a hand to the girl. "I'm Megan Smith, but you could call me Meg, and you are?" she asked the girl in a friendly tone.

Elle glanced down, her smile growing as her eyes fell on the patch on her robe, which symbolized the Ravenclaw house. Well, her hypothesis of the girl’s intelligence was right after all. If she were in the Ravenclaw house, she would have to have the gift of a high level of intelligence. The book she held in her hands, opened to about the middle, seemed quite advanced, though unfamiliar to Elle’s eyes. The brunette took it to be a muggle book, being that the words she was perusing through mentioned nothing of magic. Glancing at the girl’s eyes, which were wide with interest, the Gryffindor felt a feeling of guilt wash over her. Poor child looked so engrossed in her reading, and Elle had just disturbed her. Oops.

"Oh, hi," she said to the girl with a smile. "A muggle book, entitled, A Tale of Two Cities, by Charles Dickins,"

The name rang no bell in the brunette’s mind, but at least she was correct about it being a muggle book. “Is it interesting?” Elle questioned inquisitively, pushing the conversation further. “You like to read, eh? I paint and sketch, well, I like art, so I do all kinds of things. Oh,” added Elle as she caught sight of the girl’s hand, taking it in her own and giving it a friendly shake. “I am Elle MacMillan. Nice to meet you. I am so sorry if I disturbed your reading,” she muttered softly, moving her eyes away from the book. Perhaps if she had brought her sketchbook, she could show the girl some of her work. That is if the girl was interested in her work.

Meg looked down at the page number which she was on, and she closed the book quietly. She wasn't the type of person who would actually go on and continue reading while someone was trying to talk to them. Nope, she had atleast some courtesy. She would not continue reading when talking to someone no matter if she had to have it done an hour later. It just wasn't her, and that was that. She wanted for who ever she was speaking to, to know that they had their attention. The scene of her reading as someone was talking to her almost looked like she was more concerned about the book rather than the person that she was trying to talk to. Which was definately not what she wanted to look like.

Meg looked over at the girl. She nodded lightly. "It is, mostly," she replied to her. She noticed the girl attempting to continue the conversation. Of course, she'd also try to converse with the girl. "Reading isn't the only thing that I do though. I actually also like to paint and sketch," she stated. "Mostly if I'm not reading a book like this, I might have a book on artists with me," she said to her. She shook Elle's hand too. "It's nice to meet you too, and it's perfectly all right. Don't be sorry," she replied with a smile to her.

Elle glanced out towards the lake, the sun gracefully illuminating the dark surface. What was the girl thinking? Was she disappointed in Elle’s disturbing her readings? Or was she happy that someone had come to socialize with her on this bleak day? The girl seemed sweet, very polite, someone who wouldn’t make fun of her strong, Italian accent, unlike those Slytherins that found it humorous to poke fun at the brunette. The young child seemed to be aged about fifteen years, perhaps fourteen. Whatever the number, she was young, but at least she did not seem squeamish in Elle’s, an older girls, presence.

"Reading isn't the only thing that I do though. I actually also like to paint and sketch. Mostly if I'm not reading a book like this, I might have a book on artists with me.”

“Oh,” replied Elle, rather excited that the girl enjoyed fine art. “I love to paint too! You must show me these books of yours, if it’s not trouble too much?” the brunette questioned the girl, her Italian accent making some of the words hard to understand. Bringing back her body so that she sit in a straight position, Elle smiled to herself, glad that she had found a friend that shared the same passion for art. It wasn’t often that she met someone who enjoyed painting as much as she did. Often, her siblings made fun of her for wasting too much time drawing out silly little pictures. But one must let that go; that was all in the past.

Meg indeed was happy on Elle's appearence. Oh, sure, she was reading a book outside on that bleak day, but that didn't mean that she wouldn't mind talking to someone. It might seem contradictory then for why she wasn't in the common room reading then. But, in that case, she didn't exactly like all the loud talking and everyine being done in the common room. She prefered talking to someone else where then. Plus, she could actually hear the person who she was talking to, and wouldn't have to be bothered by everyone else's chatter among her own. The fifth year Ravenclaw just prefered it like that.

Meg looked over to Elle, and smiled lightly. "That's great!" she exclaimed to her. She nodded lightly. "It isn't too much. Unfortunately, I don't have the books with me at this time. Possibly I can show you them at another time?" she asked her. She noticed her Italian accent, but didn't say anything about it. She could understand her, and thought of it as a pretty good accent.

Elle glanced at the girl with a confused expression, not really grasping the words she had just spoken and their meanings. Myriads of thoughts zoomed through Elle's mind, like was this girl muggle-born? The brunette figured that it was a yes, mainly because of the book she was reading, but thought it rude and unfriendly to ask what type of blood she had. After all, the girl would most likely take it wrong and take Elle to be like the Slytherin people, who judged pupils by their blood type. In the brunette’s opinion, being compared to a Snake would have to be the worst thing to ever happen to someone. Most Slytherins were vile, rude, and self-centered.

“Yes, whenever you time have to show me books is fine.” The girl’s eyebrows knit as she replayed that sentence in her mind over and over again, quite positive that she had messed up on the ordering of words somewhere. Would the girl, who was younger than her, take her to be some idiot who didn’t know her ass from her forehead? Leaning back on the bench, a soft groan escaped Elle’s lips, not really happy that she had just won herself the title of being an idiot.

Meg truely wasn't a muggle born or anything of that sort. Oh sure, she prefered muggle things over wizarding things, but that was just her. It was just what she prefered. She could do magic and knew plenty about it. It was just that she prefered muggle things. Was that really such a crime if at all? Plus, she also prefered muggle books over wizarding books, believing that muggles could produce a better, and well-liked stories rather than wizards. Again, that was just her preference. That was all that was.

Meg looked over at Elle, who managed to mess up the order of her words. She looked over at the girl confused that she managed that, and confused on why the girl managed to do that. She nodded lightly. "All right, I'll remind myself to bring them next time," she replied to her. She didn't think of the girl as an idiot, but still questioned on why she mixed up her words.
