<span style='font-size:12pt;line-height:100%'>CHARACTER DOCUMENTATION Character Name: Padrig Joshua Yaxley Character Nickname: Josh Character Age: Sixteen. Character Year: Sixth. House: Ravenclaw
Physical Appearance: - Long-sleeved shirts and pants. Plain and simple. And you’d do well not to ask why! …Kidding, yes. It’s pretty obvious why – Joshua Yaxley is hiding something. One must think it a little bit odd as to why Josh loves wearing his robes too much. Or perhaps, when it’s a sunny day, he avoids going outside altogether in hopes of not showing any skin within the heat. And it shall always (hopefully) be a mystery to passersby as to why Josh loves wearing long-sleeve turtlenecks and jeans. In truth, Josh almost wears his robes to bed at risk of changing into his pajamas. Thank goodness school robes are a very neutral outfit at Hogwarts. The reason for it all? The reason he hardly shows any skin, other than his hands and face? It is because he hides all the scars, bruises, and scrapes that lie everywhere else under his robes – just like he hides everything else in his heart.
Josh has an extremely boy-ish look to him like a young kid maturing into a man. One glance at his face and you’d think that he’s about halfway through with the whole “growing up” process, and yet he is still continuing strongly and growing more mature. Instead of parted hair, he now enjoys it rather messy. It’s a dark chestnut brown in color, and textured and feathered throughout. It hangs loosely on top of his head, going this way and that. The only thing Josh actually does with it now is run a comb through it every morning before class. There’s no need for a million hair products and brushes and things like that. Plain, simple, and comfortable is how Josh wants to live. In growing older, one develops a view of the world, and “plain, simple, and comfortable,” is his view of his own world (well, mostly). His eyebrows came straight from Bryn himself – thick and au naturale. Though they’re not plucked and smoothed, they’re quite a nice compliment to his stunning blue-green eyes. His eyes, however, didn’t come from Cho, and they didn’t come from Bryn. They’re honest eyes; they make people feel comfortable, and at ease. And they never look down upon anyone unless it is to encourage them to get up again. Josh’s nose is possibly the only thing out of wack about his face. It’s a little larger and puffier than it should be, and he absolutely detests it – it’s a sheer replica of Bryn’s. As for his smile, well…you may have a problem deducing that. Even his best friends don’t see him smile too often. Unless it’s for another perfect O or seeing joy come from his sisters, they’ve never actually seen a truthful smile bloom on his face. Smirks are one thing, but a full-on smile is hard to come by with Joshua.
For the most part, Josh’s skin is ever so peachy, with a slightly creamy undertone. But, of course, it’s not the same color everywhere. If you lifted up the sleeve of his robes (or his new blue turtleneck), you’d see it all right there. There are a few scars and whatnot. But if anyone ever came upon that, they would obviously be suspicious. Thus, if Josh were to take off his shirt, you’d definitely see that he wasn’t hurting himself, or involved in a bad “Quidditch game accident” over the summer. Three or four bruises are scattered across his back and stomach. And although they heal by the time the end of the year comes, the memory of them will always be there. That’s what corrupts Josh the most. And, of course, the scrapes and bruises continue down to his legs and feet, but they are fairly few in number.
Personality and Traits: - First of all, there’s something that you all should know, and it’s completely and utterly essential: Joshua Yaxley has not said a word since he first stepped inside Hogwarts School five years ago. Amazing, isn’t it? I figured that it would be of the utmost importance to get that out of the way, since you realize that he is not the one who is narrating this application. In fact, the only words I could actually get out of him today were, “I’m quiet.” Obviously. Thus, you understand why this entire application is not to be in quotes. But I digress – Joshua is a very quiet kid, and hardly speaks a word to pretty much anybody. In the cast of the musical known as “Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry: (yep, you guessed it) The Musical,” Josh is the sixteen-year-old student of Ravenclaw House that has no lines. He is, oftentimes, pushed very much so into the background, and, in the process, almost trips over the props of the staircase. Although this is quite metaphorical, it’s one thing that everyone must understand when you get to know the boy. But, as mentioned before, he doesn’t have any lines – the only exception to this is that he does have his own song to sing. What exactly does this have to do with Joshua? Simple. He’s a mystic – there’s about a million things going on in his mind, but nothing ever seems to come out of his mouth. Thus, in order to express himself, the kind director of the musical gave him a song. This is a song that he sings to himself, and when he is by himself; he could not possibly stand the idea of word getting out of any lyric that exists within the song. Therefore, this is the song of Joshua’s life; it’s not a very beautiful song, but there are no sour notes. It’s a rather desolate melody, so I suggest you get your fair share of things that make you happy and keep them with you while you read this.
The life of Joshua Yaxley is not a sob story – he’d rather die than become the person that other people pity. He doesn’t like that kind of attention. Unfortunately, if anybody actually heard about what happens in his home life, they might shed a tear or two. You really cannot blame them, because things like this don’t happen everyday. They’re horrible – and Joshua hopes that when he comes of age (and he’s praying that comes sooner than expected), he can run away from all of this. Hopefully, if he has the change, he can work with the Ministry of Magic in Foreign Relations. Or perhaps bide his time as a curator for a Muggle Museum – he always enjoyed history and art. And if you can’t already tell, I am stalling. Joshua asked me to, but it’s best you know what’s going on sooner rather than later. Joshua lives in a very broken household. His father beats him and his mother. There, it’s said. Hopefully Joshua doesn’t faint now before I actually get a chance to play him. It was difficult just to convince him for it to be okay to write all this. Anyway, Bryn Yaxley, his father, went through a hard struggle with Josh’s twin sisters. In a foiled attempt to get them back, Bryn ended up angered to the point of sheer recklessness. Joshua has no idea why this even happens – it may be related to Bryn not getting his other daughter back, or it may even be related to marital problems. But that’s no excuse to take it out on the people you love. During the summertime, Joshua is basically helpless at his own house. He has no idea when Bryn might be planning to beat him or his mother. It could be daily, it could be nightly, it could be once a week, or even as a surprise weekend treat. Bryn pretty much does it when he feels like it. And thanks to his wonderful father, Joshua Yaxley has never been able to realize his full potential as a person, a student, or a (half-) brother. Due to Bryn’s superb job in parenting, Joshua will never, quite frankly, be able to even live.
It is a well-known fact that Josh takes after his mother, Cho (and not Bryn, thank God). The only thing different between the two is the fact that Joshua is like a Ravenclaw on overdrive. The second he stepped into Hogwarts, he could only imagine what kind of things he could possibly learn and discover – about the Wizarding World, and even about himself. Hours and hours during free afternoons were spent in the library only to yield the ability to stay up all night and read. By the age of sixteen, it’s quite possible that Josh has read at least half of the entire library because of such a reading schedule. But, of course, reading was just a hobby he did in his spare time. Homework, albeit, was his other hobby. The boy was bloody brilliant. When he finally settled in and all the nervous jitters went away at the beginning of his third year, he was easily number one or number two in the class. Nobody ever knew that, however, because – oh, you know – he’s in an endless vow of silence. The reason for that is unbeknownst to myself as well as him, but I’m guessing it’s just an introversion type thing. He never really felt the need to say anything. He wasn’t cocky, and he wasn’t arrogant. So if people wanted to know things (like his status with grades), they could ask. Why do you think he would do this? That was the next question that came to my mind. Was he getting some kind of reward for getting straight O’s? Was he in it for the praise? Oh, bloody hell no; neither of those. To tell you the truth, his parents (nor his sisters, for that matter) didn’t really know, and to his knowledge, they didn’t really care. Bryn, of course, didn’t – all he did was look at Joshua like an enemy, not some poor sixteen-year-old that didn’t deserve any kind of beating whatsoever. Cho cared, though. And that’s what made him happy. It’s possible that Joshua being such a great student is the only thing that makes her happy.
So, the boy is smart, reads a lot, and became a mute at the age of eleven. He has to have some friends, doesn’t he? Of course he does. A teenage boy cannot survive in this world without friends. Joshua may not have many, but the ones he has are the ones he’s really thankful for. He can, of course, rely on them whenever. But none of them, as you might have already guessed (you’re really good at this guessing thing!), know a thing about his father being abusive. And it better stay that way, thinks Josh. It’s easier and a lot better if he simply does not rock the boat. It’s a lot more pleasurable for the rest of the musical cast if he doesn’t steal the spotlight. And it’s also a lot better for him. Joshua hates attention; should Bryn beating him and his mother ever get out, he probably wouldn’t be able to live with himself. He knows that it’s wrong – you’d have to be completely mad to think that it’s actually a right thing. But the second “My father beats me” slips away from his lips, everybody is going to turn their heads and stare at the little outcast. He’ll probably feel smaller than even the word small – and while the entire world is staring at him, they might as well step on him, too. That’s just a little vision he’s always had; a scenario that he thinks would happen if this whole fiasco ever got let out. Everyone has a secret, so he might as well reserve the right to have one, too. Besides, life for him seems to be a lot better without releasing even more drama. Especially when he’s at Hogwarts; when he’s at Hogwarts, he knows that he is safe. Hogwarts School is his own domain – it’s Joshua’s turf. And, in truth, it’s home. Home is not that place you go back to where you dread every single second of what may happen tomorrow, or the next day, or the day after. Home is not that place you return to in fear of the people you might encounter there. And home is definitely not the house you go back to that has a family falling apart faster than you can say, “Scourgify.” Hogwarts is the place where Joshua feels comfortable, and, as hard as it may sound, it’s the place where he can be himself.
Joshua Yaxley is not his father’s son (I’ll say it again – thank God). His teachers at Hogwarts seem to see that, too, and are also quite thankful. However…they obviously don’t see it as of late. You see, in order to reward the boy for such growth and strength that they saw during his first four years at the school, they actually made him Prefect for Ravenclaw in his fifth year. Along with his mother, Joshua was thrilled, and practically jumping up and down. He would have been jumping up and down, if it weren’t for the large bruise that recently developed on his stomach. I find it rather tragic. But what’s even more tragic is what recently happened to his Prefect status. What with studying for the OWLs, holding such a high position, and dealing with all the stress from his home life, Joshua found himself in the Common Room one day…on the floor…and passed out. All the pressure and anxiety took his breath away – well, almost all of his breaths away. He ended up blacking out and hitting his head on the arm of the sofa. An older Ravenclaw Prefect later found him and took him to the Hospital Wing. After several days in bed, he awoke to a visit by Professor McGonagall. And due to the preceding events, Professor McGonagall figured it was best if a new Prefect was selected for the coming year. Deeply saddened and now completely corrupted, he returned home in the worst of moods that year.
To the people that know him personally, however, it hardly seems like Joshua has changed. He’s still that ever-caring guy that has only the nicest things to say about everybody. The professors absolutely love him, as well. He’s always had the utmost respect for his elders, and was even more polite to those of the female gender. And since he gives so much respect to his teachers, Josh is a very highly-regarded pupil in the eyes of the Hogwarts Faculty. Other than the fact that Josh is still a brilliant kid, his friends honestly do not know why he was sorted into Ravenclaw over Hufflepuff. He’s literally the light that brightens everyone’s day. And they’d be surprised that he still has the ability and drive to be happy, what with everything going on secretly in his home. But they don’t know anything about it – they don’t have to know anything about it, and he’d rather not damper their spirits anymore. He’d rather become a psychologist and help people with their problems for the rest of his life than to reveal his father beating him and his mother. On a lighter topic, however, Joshua attends school with his sisters. He may be the youngest and not exactly a major extrovert, but he’s always on the lookout for their well being. Kaycee and Liesel mean the world to him, and even though they all may not be as close as he would like to be, he still loves them. He loves them more than reading, and History of Magic, and life itself. Joshua just hopes that they know that, too.
Background/Family History: - Due to the fact that everything important about Joshua has already been mentioned, that leaves only one other large event to describe his history. For a recap, though, let’s start from the beginning. Padrig Joshua Yaxley is the only child of Bryn Yaxley and Cho Chang; however, Bryn has two twin daughters from a previous marriage. In the Yaxley house now lives Bryn himself, Cho, their (semi-adopted) daughter Liesel, and their son, Josh (of course). When he was six, Joshua started to receive beatings from his father; and his father began to beat his mother, as well. But Liesel, Bryn’s only daughter, was left untouched. As Joshua grew older and pulled further away from the clasped hand of his parents, he began to develop his own view of the world. His Hogwarts letter seemed to be the deciding factor at what made his parents unclasp their hands slightly on his existence. He began to go by Joshua, rather than Padrig – he told his friends to do so, even though it was completely against his father’s will. At fifteen, he became Prefect. But the choice was thought to be in vain by Professor McGonagall; due to all the stress from exams, being a Head Student, and stress at home (which he always kept a secret), Joshua fainted from the pressure, and thus, the Headmistress deemed it a good idea. His OWL grades were, nevertheless, still absolutely fascinating. Four O’s and four E’s; not perfect, but it was all Joshua could ask for, given his emotional and physical state at the end of his fifth year. He now begins his sixth year with several NEWT classes, and a lot of strain taken off of his back. He misses being a Prefect, but knows it’s for the best.

Role-Playing Sample:- Fatigue had hit Remus Lupin at the corner Knight and Seventh like a creeping force. Almost there...almost there. He was so close to the common room...almost within seconds, even. Seconds away from being able to plop onto one of those violet velvet couches for the rest of the afternoon. Today he had nothing planned, other than a long evening relaxing in front of the fire. Perhaps he'd meet up later with James and Sirius; then again, however, there was a possibility that he'd be spending his Friday night with Peter again. Potter and Black, the Alpha Gryffindors of the sixteen year olds, had women just crawling at their feet. It was almost disgusting. In fact, as Remus set down next to the knight in the seventh floor hallway to take a breather, he almost thought that idea was incredibly backward. Feeling his bum on the stone cold floor and his feet positioned in front of him, he dropped his bag beside him and wiped the sweat drops away from the back of his neck. James and Sirius were attractive, yes; Potter was the Quidditch star of Hogwarts, yes; Black was the infamous black sheep of his family, yes; but they wouldn't know how to make a girl feel truly loved. As Remus ran his fingers through his black, semi-messy hair, he began to think how his two best friends didn't understand the idea of monogamy. You had so much more class, much more character when you gave your heart to only one girl, and in turn, never broke hers. It wasn't fair that Remus knew exactly how to treat a girl, and yet he continually got lost in the crowd of women just clawing to get to those Alpha Gryffindors. But he lived with it. He was happy for those friends of his. He'd find his girl someday...Someday, someday.
Though it was halfway through the month, it was one of Remus's better days. Most of the color had stayed in his face, scars weren't showing, nor did his hair slightly resemble the groundskeeper's beard. The only problem was the fact that he was incredibly tired. That's how these cycles always started: fatigue, then loss of appetite, and then his looks just going downhill after that -- and that was speaking nicely of it. There were other times that were much worse. And, as he slowly raised himself from the floor, Remus found himself very thankful that today wasn't one of those worse times. He always hated those days. It was difficult to lie to everyone around him -- his Housemates, his teachers (if they knew or not, he wasn't sure), and basically the entire school. It was not easy living a lie. But if he ever let slip to anyone that he was a werewolf, his entire world would just go balistic. He chuckled to himself at the thought as he threw that heavy schoolbag over his shoulder and into the same place, as though an imprint was made there. Remus almost found it ironic that, of course, once the world found out he was a werewolf, everyone would jump back in fright -- in horror. And somehow forget the person he truly was -- the kind, caring, dedicated figure that is truly Remus Lupin. As he began to make his way down the hall, he nodded towards a Gryffindor passing by, who had obviously just come from the portrait hole. Sadly, they didn't see him. Just missed me, Remus thought.
After they had left Remus's presence, he sighed to himself. Why did he put up with it all? Lightly, slowly he walked upon the stone floor thinking about about the answer to this question. If he had, what, no girlfriend, no attention, and was utterly cut off from the world -- why bother? That must have been the question almost every teenager asked themselves, he began to think. Finding the meaning to his own life was difficult, but it was an epic journey. As Remus came upon a window looking out over the snow-covered grounds as a result from the previous weather, a very pleasant thought had suddenly popped into his head. I have friends. It was true. It was very true. And the entrance of that idea into his mind actually made him smile a little, making his dimples beam. Remus Lupin had excellent friends that were always there for him. They knew what this whole werewolf thing was like, and that it caused a lot of stress for him at such a young age. Though they were few in number, they were gauranteed. And that's what he loved the best about them -- the fact that they would always be there. That was a promise.
Remus turned away from the window and quickly headed towards the common room. However, once he got to the portrait, he'd misjudged his ability to actually get there. Woa, too fast...too fast. He spoke the password in a slightly out of breath tone, and as he stepped in, he felt beads of sweat form on his forehead. To maintain his balance, he placed a hand on the wall and felt some of the moisture drip into his eyes. Seconds later, the sweat had turned into...bare bits of parchment?! Surprised, he took his hand off the wall and ran it smack dab into his face. For some reason, that sweat had attracted...somebody's...parchment. Bizarre, yes. Remus wasn't mad in the slightest. He found it rather amusing, especially after the day he'd been having. It seemed as though Lily was the only person -- the only female, he should say -- that actually understood him and talked to him on a regular basis. She made being a Prefect so much better. And, yes -- he will admit that, at times, he used to think about what it'd be like if they were actually together. They were...perfect, right? Both Prefects, excellent students, and, quite frankly, they kept the Marauders in line. Though Lily's presence was slightly static with the Marauders, her influence had disallowed many of Potter and Black's crazy ideas. But...James had a crush on Lily -- always did. And it didn't necessarily help when James played Cyrano de Bergerac between Lupin and Lily. These ideas were merely a nuance in the everyday life of Remus; thus, they'd flashed in his mind in merely a manner of seconds. He was used to the idea of dreaming, though never actually reaching for that dream. Someday, he thought. Someday my princess will come.
However, he didn't necessarily realize that a possible princess had just apologized to him. "So sorry 'bout that." It was Dani! Grinning, he said, "It's no problem." Apparently, his hand had dropped from the middle of his face. How'd he know? Danica had removed the parchment herself. Remus blushed a little, as though she had pointed out that he had pepper in his teeth or something. "Um...hi," he giggled, looking down at his feet. "Homework going well?" The red within his cheeks matched the color of the crest on his robes, and was still there by the time he asked this question.
