Thought I would start a thread about past blunders for us older guys (you know who you are Tongue ) who's first tank was setup before forums and you relied on LFS information

My first tropical tank was 54" x 15" x 12" and a community tank with 1 internal filter with only god knows what turnover, got a bi monthly clean out, and by this I mean fish out gravel out and everything and I mean everything washed out.

Conditioner, never heard of the stuff and all went back in, don't know how these guys survived.

Then I seen this cute little black and red fish at around 2" that danced at the glass, so I ask the friendly knowledgeable (I wish) shop owner " will this fish be OK in a community tank",,"Yes" comes the reply, so I take my first Oscar home, not that I knew it was an Oscar then.
No computer then and my first was a commodore 64 so you know how long ago this was Tongue

needless to say he was fed well, two minutes in the tank and the first guppy tail is hanging out his mouth much to the horror of the wife.

slowly (well not that slowly) my tank numbers reduce and the little black and red fish gets bigger, when I see a red one of these dancing fish so get them too, so I now have 3 Oscars in this tank and there they stayed until I had to get rid of the tank due to work/family limiting my time.

That was my introduction to Oscars.
