Last Thursday 7th September, my life stopped….My hubby had been feeling crap for a couple of days. He’d been taking strong drugs for about 3 weeks for a bad back injury. His course of drugs / medicine had come to an end. He felt fine at 10pm but by 3am he had cold sweats, leg twitches, chest pain and basically felt crap. He got up and went to work as normal – but still felt awful. We work for the same company and see each other constantly. By 11am I was begging him to go home as he looked and felt like crap.I made him a doctors appointment – which he argued about. At 12pm he agreed to go home to bed. We thought he was having withdrawals from the back medicine. He spent 2 hrs in bed and called me telling me he was really unwell. I took him to the doctors and 45mins later I was driving him to hospital – the doctor feared he was having a heart attack. His sister had one at 42 so he was at risk. I filled out the paperwork at hospital while he was wheeled away to a high dependency unit. My oldest son (14yrs) was with me so I felt compelled to hold it together. When we finally got to see him he had tubes going everywhere and he was in intense pain. We stayed for 3 hrs until he felt a little more comfortable and then I went home to my other kids. On the way I called in to give the work mobile to a friend from work. His wife tried to comfort me and I burst into tears – it was a huge relief. I got to my inlaws to pick up my other 2 kids and my mother inlaw proceeded to tell me every worst scenario she could think of in regards to her sons health. NO it didn’t help my mind at all. I took my kids home and they had dinner – an hour later the 4 of us were at the hospital visiting my sweetheart. I couldn’t eat. He was happy to see all of us and the kids were more at ease to see him. We stayed for 2 hours and then went home. I got home and showered the kids, made lunches, did ironing and then I spent the next hour making phone calls letting friends and close work collegues know that he was in hospital. I didn’t sleep at all that night – but my kids did thankfully. They got up and went to school as normal – I took the day off. Lunch time that day I took my man home – he still felt a little off but his blood tests and medical tests came back normal. All the doctor wanted him to do was take it easy. With the promise that if he had chest pain again I would drag him back to hospital. He did and for the first day and a half he felt crap but now he feels really well. My head still aches from stress on and off but he looks great…. I watch him like a hawke – I can’t help it. He’s my world… Finally my heart is smiling again. |
