I will say at first I did not want to mix American and Africans together because I thought it would be so unnatural. He actually gets along great with the O's. We were very unsure at first and worried about the PH and so on...but with lots of research we found out that it could work. We got him at a fish show in Chicago where my husband fell in love with him and won him in the auction. We talked to many fish owners and said mixing the different types of cichlids would not be a problem. Believe me I was very unsure. But one of the gentlemen we spoke to is the Editor in Chief of the Tropical Fish Hobbyist magazine David E. Boruchowitz and when we told him what we wanted to do he was intrigued and said that it should work and he didn't see any problems with it. So we gave it a shot and it has worked out very nicely. We do call him the cop of the tank because he does swim around like he owns the joint. He will even get between the two O’s if they are having a tiff and send one O to the other end of the tank. It’s actually very amusing. Sorry for rambling just a little background on the bugger. ;)
