Bagels this morning, we have a rotation here at work and one person brings in bagels or doughnuts or some such treat every Friday.
I've had american versions of all that exept I have no idea what a tattie is except maybe a guess it involves potatoes. I am have been curous about mince though, the only time I've had it was with my dear old grandma she had me help her make a few mince pies out of a hogs head, had raisins in it so I wasn't interested. I tell myself if I ever fly over to exoctic countries like England, Ireland or Scottland I want to try real pork pies and mince. |

Tatties are just potatoes and venison is deer meat (yip, I ate Bambi), lovely and lean Never heard of mince with raisins in it, I must admit it doesn't sound good, our mince is from cattle, we usually get steak mince as its a lot leaner. In these exotic lands Pork pies are more an English pie and in Scotland the smaller pies tend to be filled with minced lamb. |

Just fried potatoes? We never got too much venison when growing up, Dad thought deer were too small ot bother with, since he considered himself an elk hunter with no peer. Ate lots of elk though... but there was this one time he poached a little fawn... |

Mince and tatties is boiled till reduced ground beef, cooked withusually a few whole vegetables (onion, carrot, celeri) in it for flavour, an oxo cube, and dumplings (maybe it's called pastries), served with creamy mashed potatoes, sometimes turnips (if one is so inclined) and the clear cookign broth (yummm) That's the way my mother in law (yes, she's scottish) makes it anyway. I ate Bambi all winter long - hunter friend gave us a whole deer and it was delicious, I make kick butt bambi roasts Steak pie.. I just cna't get used to unless it happens to contain a lot of kidney. I grew up on mince meat or shredded meat pie-- NO raisins TY, and those meat chunks in a pie along with veggies just throw me off LOL I do love Haggis however though most people cant' stand it because of the texture. I've always loved the farmer style cooking though, which contains a lot of the organs that are now shunned in modern cuisine, like heart, liver, kidneys, blood pudding, etc. What's in my mouth today? Glass of wine for now. IT's two am and nowhere near ready to have breaky
