One could be considered playing the race card if he uses his race as an excuse for a shortcoming, or if he uses his race as a shield to protect himself from criticism.

Yeah but how come they say Bill Clinton was playing the race card when he said Obama wasn't the same as Jesse Jackson? He's not the same candidate as Jackson but they're both black right? So where's the beef? I think Obama knows it wasn't anything but wanted to make it a big deal because his media was making it seem like blacks will support him only because he's black. I just think the issue is pointless but the media makes it front & center every freakin day and blames the Clintons for it. I think I'd vote for Clinton just because I don't think the media has treated her fairly in this whole thing. Obama is black people .. in case you didn't notice!

HEY Big Dog .. Welcome to the Board. I can't wait until it fills up here

Hey JohnnyO, just wanted 2 jump in and say at the time Bill Clinton was talking about Jackson, he was at wits end trying 2 figure out why his wife was getting her butt kicked by a black guy. People are always say how polished Clinton is as a politician but I think people give him too much credit. He can't be that great if all his friends have jumped ship on them. It is what it is, Obama is a black man & Hillary is a white female. It don't get much more dramatic than that my new friend.
Somebody had to notice b4 they got 2 South Carolina I'm certain. So reporters have their mics in Clinton's face and he just went off on them about jesse jackson and all sorts of stuff bcuz he wasn't clear about Y obama was winning.
The Race Card is a figure of speach that means to suggest way down low and quiet like, [hey people did you really think about what it might mean if a black guy wins the white house?] But of course I would never mean 2 imply it's a bad thing as u know. yeah right Mr. President we got it.

I'm a Republican and I know Republicans stink as bad as Dems do but I think Dems just Tax the hell outta ya until there's nothing left. Dems want way too many programs that do nothing but take more money from your pockets. I think if a Dem said, I want 2 do all this stuff but I want 2 use the money already in our treasury to pay for it, I just might vote for that person. Well here's news 4 U, neither of these 2 R saying anything like that .. so John McCain has my vote & I know Blue doesn't like it but I like him anyway ..

Bill Clinton wasn't "playing the race card". He was merely making an observation. Political correctness has gotten to the point of absurdity in this country where you cannot make ANY comment about a black person, no matter the context. Actually, the people criticizing Clinton were playing the race card by using it in an attempt to silence him.

Hello Everybody,

I think bigdog is correct. I heard Joe Scarborough talk about this a few weeks ago and he said the former President was setup but the Media successfully turned it around against him in favor of Senator Obama. That's about the time I began to no longer support Senator Obama because I noticed up until the Media started making a bid deal about what the President said, he didn't make any statements about it and then decided to capitalize on it. That's when all the black people began to support Obama and I felt bad for Hillary Clinton, who didn't do anything to deserve that treatment. You are right in saying for us white people, who have no idea how to address black people anymore. I don't even know if writing black people is acceptable but there are only certain words to use like African Americans I suppose. When Senator Obama made his earliest speeches, he repeated over and over how important it was for America to put aside it's divisional ideas as him being a black man. And when he won Iowa, the News Media repeated over and over again how strange it was for Iowa to support a black man especially when Iowa usually votes Republican and since there are so few number of blacks in Iowa, it was amazing that he won. But when President Clinton mentioned the word black, he was pounced on and the media never let up. I have a dear girl friend who is black and she says she has no problem with the word black. She is also voting for Obama because he's black and for no other reason. I asked her what about his policies and she said it didn't matter because none of them have policies that will make any difference anyway so since in her eyes none of the candidates are going to bring about real change in America, she might as well support the black guy. But when I asked her about supporting a woman, she didn't have an answer for that, so I decided to cancel out her vote by supporting Hillary. I hope that made sense to everyone
I believe a Vote for Hillary Clinton is a Vote for Women's Equality

Hey Nancy ** Not sure how old U R but I get the feeling U R kinda young * maybe wrong and if I am sorry bout that. I don't mean it as a dig but Race issues R pretty common ploys especially when it comes 2 politics. U C the problem I have with the whole issue is, did anybody ask themself the question, what would Clinton have gained by making a negative jesture about Obama's color?

UC I don't think anybody realizes Bill Clinton may have problems with credibility but he's no fool. Even though I tend 2 B on the Right, I don't C Clinton as bad as most. I think the guy is pretty cool enuf. I actually believe if he were running 4 Prez, the nomination 4 the Dems would have been done by now. As much as people claim they don't like him, he'll win everytime. Repubs don't like running against this guy and the media tries 2 make a big deal outta everything he says just 2 get him pushed back from the stage. Have U noticed the only stuff U hear from Bill R soundbytes? The reason is, if the media were to run a whole segment of his stumps 4 Hillary, people would start 2 listen 2 what he is saying.

The guy was President 4 - 2 terms & could have won it 4 Gore if Gore had used him instead of acting like a big baby (imo). Anyway Nanc, the Race Card is complicated at best. I don't think there's any clear answer to JohnnyO's Q concerning the Race Card. If U R White. Black contend U have no idea what it's like 2 live as a Black. But ny the same token, Blacks don't know what it's like 2 B White either. And neither have the upper hand as I C it.

Obama has 2 huge blocks of support right now. Teens and Blacks who R determined 2 go 2 the Polls. And now U Dems R saying if your person doesn't get nominated, you're not voting 4 the other.

I suppose that's great news 4 Mac bcuz all he has 2 do is sit back and watch the game, save his money, get a tan, have his cool looking wife let her hair down every once in awhile and remind people that National Defense and remaining strong in the Middle East is hugely important.
