HiYa BD ~ Of course qualifications is the barometer everyone should determine their support by but as long as we have a Media hell bent on manipulating the minds of Voters, qualifications will have very little to do with it. But to speak of a bigger picture, What can the President actually do? When we listen to the rhetoric of Candidates during the election process, we hear them tell us what we want them to address that lends to the concerns of our Communities and Households. We are worried about our perspective financial securities and we are concerned about the Welfare & Security of our Nation. We are concerned about the safety of our children going to school and walking down the street. We are concerned about the use or mis-use of our Tax Dollars and we are concerned about the increasing cost of simply living and affording the energy to operate our vehicles to get to our jobs in order to pay for these basic requirements. Candidates running for President will tell you they have a solution for all of these issues and more but what I am trying to communicate to my friends is, I've been able to Vote since Richard Nixon ® ran against Herbert Humphrey (D) in 1968. Even back then we have been promised the same old Political jargon & rhetoric of the ages. Equality, Better Income, Healthcare (oh yeah healthcare was even talked about back in those days), education for the poor, better housing for the poor and although crime wasn't anywhere close to what we have today, National Defense against our biggest threat, Russia & Cuba, were the hot topics for a strong National Defense. And what did we get ? Well we must not have gotten much because aside from building up our Military, I see very little change in any of the other areas of Social Entitlements. So BigDog, when you say qualified, it makes me wonder what qualifications does a Candidate really need to have? And the only answer that comes to mind is one that is prepared to Play Ball with Congress. You gotta be or become a member of the Club and go along with the flow of things. Politicians know all too well that people regardless will fall into line with a charismatic personality telling them everything is going to be great if they are elected. Whether that person has any intention of fulfilling their promises has little to do with it. As President, you know you have to do something especially if you intend to have a 2nd Term but there's plenty of wiggle room when you factor in the President does nothing without the backing of Congress. You can be the Robinhood of Presidents equipped to make serious changes in our governmental structure but those changes had better be beneficial to what Congress will agree to or guess what (?) you ain't doing nothing. So regardless of who gets to sit in the Oval Office, unless Congress remains relatively untouched and are able to continue making millions from the sweat of our backs and Federal Programs continue to funnel huge amounts of money into programs geared to celebrate the Elected Officials Constituents for them the ability in saying, "Look how great I am, I've done this for you and in return, you will send me back to Washington to finish the difficult work of getting healthcare & security for you but it's going to take years of hard work and as long as you continue to give me your confidence, I will fight during our Washington Dinner Engagements and those intensely difficult endurance driven gatherings on the Yachts of our financial backers, all for your sake". People will cheer, smile, take pictures, hope you kiss their babies and generally believe anything you say even though the lives of those who are bringing home below $50,000 yearly, will continue to get harder to manage because we are not in the class of those who filter serious money into the pockets of those who make the Laws. Do you really believe Congress or even a President is going to condemn, punish or disadvantage Corporations that provide the financial backbone of our Nation? Regardless of the amount of Job loses a company dishes out, they are still employers and if Congress lays too heavy a burden on them, they can just as easily pull out completely. So in my opinion, the qualification (male or female - black or white) merely has to be willing to Play Ball and appear as though you aren't. |
