More on inspiration.

While little was unveiled initially with Recore, Armature Studio game director Mark Pacini and Comcept CEO Keiji Inafune have opened up more about the Xbox One exclusive.

Recore was revealed at E3 last week with an announcement trailer at Microsoft's press conference, but the finer details were left out of the presentation. But now, Pacini and Inafune are providing background information about the Xbox One game, such as how the story focuses on main heroine Joule and her survival.

"As you continue on this adventure, you are going to meet other companions, as well as enemies," Inafune said. "The game's main theme focuses on how she is going to survive in this world."

But Joule isn't alone, as she travels with her robot companion named Mack. Pacini explained that Mack is part of a faction trying to help bring humanity back to the planet, while there is another faction fighting against that.

And the environment doesn't make things any easier for Joule and Mack, as sandstorms will actually alter landscapes.

"One of the big features of this game is that the scenery completely changes after a sandstorm, which actually affects the maps in the gameplay," Inafune said. "In this world, there are very few humans, and this girl is all by herself."

Armature and Comcept are working together on Recore, which is expected to release in spring 2016.

"ReCore, at its heart, harks back to a different era in gaming, and trying to put a new spin on it, based on games that myself and [Keiji] Inafune-san have done in the past that aren’t really being done anymore," he said.

Pacini previously served as the game director of the Metroid Prime trilogy, so it's not surprising that ReCore might have similarities with that franchise. In fact, Armature was founded by Pacini and two other former Retro Studio employees, the Nintendo developer responsible for Samus Aran's Prime adventures on GameCube and Wii.
