On that note, I haven't really delved much in the series, but I'm curious; are the games connected? Does each Fallout stand alone as part of an expanded universe, are they completely separate and unrelated, like Final Fantasy, or is there a lot more connection between the games?

They are connected, albeit not always directly. 2 is a direct sequel of 1, taking place in the same part of the US about a hundred years later with the exploits of the original Vault Dweller playing heavily into the backstory. 3 takes place on the other side of the country and has few connections to the previous games. NV links the previous games together in a new settinv a stones throw away from the setting of the first games.

Only fifty bucks, that's definitely worth it for a collectible.
