 An interview with someone who knew MGS's former composer says that she said the reason why the split between Kojima and Konami happened was because of money. Basically, he was getting a fixed salary, regardless of the work he put out, and he was blowing off massive amounts of budget money on trying to make everything meticulous and perfect. Take all that with a pinch of salt, as it's basically a "he said, she said" deal. It doesn't sound very likely to me since it seems like a weird reason for either party, who have been working together for decades, to have issue over. Even if Konami had a radical change in outlook on how to conduct business, they've had Kojima on board long enough to know how to deal with him.
