Somewhat related: frequent Jimquisition target Digital Homocide has had their entire library of games removed from Steam. Every. Single. One. Even the Greenlight pages for games that haven't been released yet are gone. Thank fucking christ Valve finally decided to do something about these clowns. EDIT: Now they're trying to sue Steam. Given that they couldn't even manage a suit against Jim Sterling without their case being shamefully thrown out long before they made it to court, it's baffling they think they have any ghost of a chance against an industry giant like Valve. DigiHom drops their suit against hundreds of Steam users because... they ran out of money. In lieu of that they filed for a refund on court costs - yeah, good fucking luck with that. Basically, they're dead in the fucking water. |

No joke, I still haven't played the new Doom yet because it has a fucking 50 gig day one patch. That's my entire monthly download limit for one fucking game. I get that the precedent for game development has fallen apart so bad that games can go gold and even outright on sale before they're fucking finished, but there comes a point where people should just look and publishers and say "why the hell are we putting up with this bullshit?". Not just because it's pointless and inconvenient on our end, but because not all of us are ridiculously rich bastards that can actually afford to download that much data casually. |

Starting to feel like owning a console is becoming less and less relevant in this day and age (outside of Nintendo of course). I was always of the opinion that the two never really had much in the way of exclusives to offer outside of the PC and I never saw a point investing in them, especially since you can hook your PC up to a TV and connect a controller to it, for those pedantic about that kind of shit. I find it hard to justify buying a console for barely a handful of exclusives like Halo or Killzone or something. |

I still mostly prefer consoles, if only because you can still get physical copies of console games. Some PC games have physical releases, but most (like DOOM) only come with a single 40+MB file on the disc... that installs Steam. That's it. The disc only fucking installs the Steam client. The game itself you have to download in its entirety. Which is quite frankly bullshit, especially for people like BL who have a severely restricted monthly download limit. It doesn't really affect me as much as from what I've been told by others in this house, I have an unrestricted bandwidth connection. But just because I can download quite literally the entire internet doesn't mean I want to, especially with Australia's shitty fibre connection that limits most of us to a 50 Mbps download speed. At maximum. So yea, while consoles are starting to become as shit as PC's currently are, they still have a minor advantage over PCs in the fact that in most cases you don't have to download the whole game and then some if you choose to go out and buy a physical copy. And as long as I have that option, I'm gonna milk it for all its worth (especially while games like Destiny remain exclusive to consoles.) |

And this is why I just straight-up don't invest in Sony and M$ consoles at all. It's clear that they're losing touch with what consoles are supposed to be by trying to make them into all in one media centers when PCs already do all the same things for less money, and can be upgraded periodically as you get the money to do so. This week, on The Jimquisition: Say what you will about the Five Nights at Freddy's franchise (Jim certainly isn't a huge fan), you gotta give Scott Cawthon props for taking comments from the game he released prior to FNaF and fucking rolling with it. Which is more than you can say for other indie dev teams *coughcoughdigitalhomicidecoughcough*. |

That's because there are legitimate applications for uncanny valley, even if most don't see it as the more desirable option. As far as I can tell you can't exactly make a shit game ironically and make bank off it, and throwing one together with incredibly inconsistent and ridiculous assets never really made sense even when Serious Sam did it. |
