Okay, admittedly I actually found what he did near the end to be rather amusing and probably a better way of explaining why this is terrible than just talking about it. |

GOG is launching its own Early Access program, simply called Games In Development. However, unlike Valve's Early Access and Steam Greenlight programs, GOG is actually putting some fucking effort into it. Edited by Luffy Foxtrot, Feb 3 2016, 01:21 PM.

Something, something, Capcom. Also, another edition of Fuck Konami News, as it turns out that the PC version of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain in Japan has a 6-month usage period on its microtransaction currency. Which is just really fucking shitty. Also, Jim jumps on the #WTFU bandwagon after Nintendo filed a Content ID claim on the video above because it had footage of Splatoon on it. Footage that was only used for a few seconds out of the entire 10 minute runtime and was also taken from a publically released trailer. Because of that, Nintendo gets ad revenue on "Early AAAccess" despite over 90% of the video containing footage that isn't fucking theirs. (This video was Content ID'd too, but that was a deliberate attempt by Jim. Still kinda bullshit either way.) |

Watched both of those a little while back, and I have to agree. This monetizing business is getting completely out of hand, especially coming from Nintendo. It's the type of cynical money-grubbing bullshit that's going to sink the AAA industry and cause a second collapse of the video game industry. Not forgetting, of course, the fact that Google consists of a bunch of limp-dicked corporate shills who won't actually back up their word and do what they say they're going to do the second major companies start pulling this kind of crap. Even more egregious is the fact that it's fully automated on both ends, with both claims and strikes being filed by programs and being completely untouched by human hands. It's pretty much why I shamelessly run Adblock on Youtube, even more shamelessly than usual nowadays. I'm not going to contribute to this soulless, content creator-gouging content-ID bullshit any more than I absolutely have to, and in Jim Sterling's case I don't even feel guilty because his videos aren't monetized to begin with. |

Plants Vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 is a major improvement over the original. It feels like an actual sequel, has the kind of content you'd actually expect from a $60 AAA game and, shockingly considering it's fucking EA, is completely void of any microtransactions or shitty Season Passes. The fact we have to praise this is actually quite disturbing. |

We now live in a world where EA is better than Capcom. Surely, these are the end of days... |

GW1 was free of microtransactions too, at least at launch. Give them a month or two, I'm sure they're working on it. |

I'm pretty sure GW1 had microtransactions, as that was a massive gripe every review had with the game. Hell, I remember Luffy complained about it. |

That is true, but the major thing most people complained about before the microtransactions were added to the first game was that the sticker packs (what you used to unlock stuff) were ridiculously hard to obtain because EA had deliberatedly designed the system with microtransactions in mind from the outset. The in-game coins were earned at such a slow pace that people were actually hoping for microtransactions. So, when the microtransactions were finally implemented, EA was touted as a hero, of all fucking things. Which is something that Jim saw as a massive problem back when he was still doing the Jimquisition for The Escapist. Garden Warfare 2, on the other hand? The coins actually drop far more generously, which may have something to do with GW2 retailing for USD$59.99, whereas the first game was only USD$29.99 at launch. Doesn't excuse the practice, though. And that didn't stop EA from shoehorning the shit into Dead Space 3 way back when, so *shrug*. So, if they do eventually patch in microtransactions again, at least it won't hurt as badly as it did back then. Maybe. Jim would probably complain about it again, though. I'd complain about having microtransactions shoved up the ass of a fully priced, retail game! D:< |

This week on the Jimquisition, Jim talks about how No Man's Sky is charging a full retail $60 pricetag. For some reason they're less entitled to this than the bigger publishers that charge that much and have the nerve to gate away additional content for an extra fee? Internets are strange. Also right at the end, GW2 adds microtransactions. I MOTHERFUCKING CALLED IT Edited by Blacklightning, Mar 8 2016, 02:55 AM.

Much like Jim said, that's just fucking sad, more than anything. I haven't played GW2 yet (I have the game lying around though and I'll give it a whirl whenever I can drag myself away from FFXIV or Yokai Watch long enough) but I honestly was really hoping Jim would eventually GotY it in the Jimquisition Awards at the end of the year. Because, again, a AAA game this content rich, as Jim has said, deserves some fucking praise in this era of gaming. Such a shame that EA had to taint a potential victory with microtransactions. On the topic of No Man's Sky's price tag, though. Again, it's just disappointing, really. I was hoping for a more affordable price, because it going for 60 big ones in the US means it'll cost the usual one hundred fucking dollars here in Super Mega Death Land. And I'm just sick of that price point in general nowadays. |

And that's not even accounting for the $150 collector's edition that comes with a model spaceship. |

It's kind of amusing that DigiHom had to resort to crowdfunding to pay their legal bills for this - not just because they failed in spectacularly predictable fashion, but also because it's pretty telling of how much money they actually have to fling around and how badly this'll backfire once they're savagely beaten in a court of law. Let's hope this is the beginning of the end. EDIT: On another note, how exactly do you get away with literally mailing shit to somebody without anyone in the post office noticing? DigiHom be damned, nobody deserves that and I feel sorry for whoever actually had to deliver it. Jim's still cool, but his fans need to grow the fuck up I swear.
