The day we forget about Colonial Marines is the day we officially give up as a community and just basically hand our souls over to the corporate bullshit that is the AAA industry. I'm glad Isolation came along to soothe some of the damage that it caused, but fans of the franchise like myself will forever be bitter and cynical because of how badly we were misled by a patented pack of lies. We never got our complex FPS full of 80's action schlock and sci-fi references to one of the greatest movies of all time. For crying out loud, Capcom's AVP arcade beat 'em up from the 90's was more faithful than the drivel Gearbox pumped out. I will never understand why Gearbox, as a company, and Pitchford, as an exec, are so full of themselves since the only claim to fame they have is Borderlands, a mediocre, at best, dungeon crawler skinned as an FPS. They have two massive turds to account for, something their egos won't even allow them to do. It's incredibly sad how they're still successful as a brand regardless. I know it's not my place and none of my business but, always sort of have this resentment for people who buy their games, even moreso towards people who still play them. I just can't legitimise their existence, mostly because I got burned so hard as a fan of Alien, and hell, even Duke Nukem, which I didn't think was as bad as most people made it out to seem. Just, seriously, fuck Gearbox. |

I'll honestly be surprised if anyone ever gives Gearbox the time of day after that. The only thing I regret is that they acquired the rights to Duke Nukem back when they still had any power to... and are presumably just going to sit on the IP and do nothing with it now. All being said, Sega really needs to learn to outsource properly, because Gearbox would never have gotten that far if they had any sort of meaningful oversight to begin with. It's pretty clear they never did learn from that, because they then went on to create the Sonic Boom initiative, which has since thrown their own reputation into the crapper in ways even '06 struggles to demonstrate. |
