Judging from previews and early players it sounds as though a lot of features from previous games have been cut, and as a result it feels stripped down by the standards that even Sims 2 set. Just keep playing Sims 3 instead if you want your fix.

I like The Sims, but I just cannot comprehend spending literally hundreds of dollars for virtual items that really just flavor the game a bit more.
