For games to be legally called free in the UK, they actually have to be 100% free now. No microtransactions, no bullshit.

Seriously, it aches to think that I was predominantly a PC gamer who lived off of graphic adventure games, RTSes, FPSes and racing games, yet today just barely hold an interest in the PC market because it has become nothing but...well THIS.

When your go-to guy for good games lets you down, where the hell do you go? This is one of the many reasons why the indie scene has boomed so much, because in the wake of the failure that is the AAA industry, someone had to come in to fill the power vacuum.
