No seriously, there's no way EA would make a decision like that with no strings attached. Either they're going to find another way to cram Origin down your throat or make the entire bulk of the game playable through microtransactions or something.

I hate EA as much as any red-blooded gamer should, but the fact is that without EA's..."blessing", other third parties will be weary of supporting the system. Such was the case with the Dreamcast: if EA had given it support, it would've helped get Sega out of its financial funk. 3:

You're correct though that this is worrisome due to EA's image in itself but I hope that this will somehow end up being a "blessing in disguise".

I don't think it'll be a big problem honestly as I only said I hope it wouldn't go the same route and yea Sega had their own problems before the Dreamcast but I was just trying to imply more so that EA generates sales for games on Nintendo's consoles with games like FIFA at a greater rate than Konami's Pro Evolution (example). This could just help out EA's former competitors in some areas without them around (again, this is speculation on my end and I'm not saying it's fact).

Posts: 17,366 Group: All Powerful Deity Member #1 Joined: December 30, 2005	The Dreamcast's downfall was not related to EA's lack of support, as Arem has said, but the fact that they invested so much in useless hardware over the years, putting them over the edge. They took a gamble with the Dreamcast, creating a console with outdated hardware and releasing it into the market before the PS2 hit, believing they could win the race with that move (which ultimately proved futile due to dwindling third party support and the aforementioned limited hardware). The only thing EA's lack of support really did was remove any instance of it's biggest moneymaker at the time, i.e. the EA Sports brand, which Sega tried to make up for with their own 2K brand and college sports licenses. All in all, this isn't a big deal in today's market, because of several reasons. Firstly, from what I recall, EA will eventually be losing the monopoly on all it's sports licenses, allowing other developers and publishers to have equal opportunity with regards to it. Second, these games have been lacking in diversity and innovation for many, many years now and the dwindling sales numbers are proof that the consumers are becoming smarter and no longer wasting their time on a dying piece of the market. EA claims it is not releasing any 2014 iteration of their sports titles on the Wii U because of bad sales of their 2013 lineup, which was probably because they were rehashed, Wii ports anyway. I am also going to assume that a key reason behind EA's lack of support for the Wii U is because of Origin, or rather, their inability to force it onto the console as a way to bind consumers to their games on the Wii U and siphon more cash out of them in the long run. Fact of the matter is, EA sees no chance of making headway through Nintendo's nigh impregnable armour and they're packing their bags and finding another place where they can thrive as the industry's Mafia. Third party support doesn't usually take cues from EA, especially when you take into account that most developers for Nintendo consoles are Japanese anyway. The only other Western publishers that matter are Ubisoft and Activision, the former of which is doing a lot for the Wii U and the latter of which just releases everything for everyone anyway. In the end, I don't think this will have much bearing in the long run, at least, not for Nintendo. EA will lose a large majority of the market, literally the only remaining aspect of the market that exists solely for videogames as the other two are purely consumer electronics companies with gaming divisions. I seriously hope this move leads to EA's eventual demise. Rambling aside, and in related news AHAHAHAHAHAHAH OH GOD EA, YOU ARE SO FUCKING STUPID, WHEN WILL YOU LEARN?
