You see, this is the dilema we all face; support a corrupt publisher that castrates it's own games and makes what could be something awesome really crap just to keep a decent developer alive, or cut off ties with said publisher and let a bunch of guys lose their only source of income. Voting with your wallet really does work though.

I think devs should take a lesson from this; don't develop for a publisher if they're inherently evil. Seriously, get out, find another gig, hell, make a living making silly cellphone games, it's a whole lot better than this.

Sadly, I have to agree. It's how I feel about BioWare. I love the games they put out, and want to support them, but EA is making it increasingly difficult. I bought Dead Space 3 because I support Visceral Games, not EA. I liked Dead Space, I liked Dante's Inferno, hell I even liked their Lord of the Rings adaptations of the movies back during the 6th gen days. I feel bad for the companies who have to suffer under EA, and I want to find the CEO of EA and give him a kick in the nads, but...yeah...difficult spot.

I like it when people use the word "gay" in any context other than a homosexual one - it only proves that they have the maturity of a five year old, as if their obsession with shooters didn't already do a good job of pointing that out. It's also pretty amusing that he pointed out Skyrim considering the fact that, y'know, it's set in the bloody medival era and doesn't even have muskets, let alone generic modern firearms.

But just for fun, let's play around with his logic a bit.

game - gun = gay
game + gun = -gay
game + gun + Arem = ???

I know, right?! Return of the King was great (played the fuck out of that on GCN and PS2), and The Third Age was cool too, even though it was a clone of Final Fantasy X's battle system.

EDIT: Visceral made only those two games of the LOTR franchise; before Dead Space 2, Visceral was known as EA Redwood Shores, which is probably why very few know Visceral's full entourage of video games, including James Bond 007, The Godfather and even an Army of Two entry before EA shut Visceral Montreal down.

Godammit, it looks like Visceral was probably EA's best studio.

Among the best to be sure. Why do you think I feel so obliged to support them?

So Simcity 5's been the topic of EA discussion lately, and... oh fuck me, where do I even start.

Let's start with the beta. This is a clause taken from its Terms and Conditions agreement:

Quote:

“If you know about a Bug or have heard about a Bug and fail to report the Bug to EA, we reserve the right to treat you no differently from someone who abuses the Bug. You acknowledge that EA reserve the right to lock anyone caught abusing a Bug out of all EA products.”
So in other words, if you discover a bug of any kind, even if you in no way exploit it, you're obliged to report it or face a ban. Which to those who watched the news of The Old Republic a while back might realize it was the same treatment that was given there too, only those were bugs that persisted into the retail release. Then one guy did exactly that, and got permanently banned for it. So if you withhold feedback you're permabanned, but if you give feedback you're permabanned. Already we're off to a wonderful start.

Fast forward to the retail release - nobody can play the game because the servers are down for maintainence. On the fucking launch day. Of course, because Simcity 5 has always-online DRM, this affects people who never even intended to play with others, for no other reason than the fact EA doesn't trust that you actually spent some actual fucking money on them. Clearly not a single thing learnt from Diablo III secondhand, there.

Even for people that have been able to play the game for more than half an hour at a time, the game's still riddled with problems. If a nuclear power plant blows up, the damage is literally irreperable, even if you fast-forward millions of ingame years into the future. The game has a rollback feature for when your city becomes fucked beyond repair, but not only does it seemingly not trigger here, sometimes it occurs at complete fucking random, even if your city is thriving and there's nothing visibly wrong with it. It doesn't give you an option not to rollback and lose progress - the only other alternative is abandoning the entire city.

No, it's being jacked into a life support machine, with a feeding tube jammed down its throat and milking machines latched to anywhere money seems to excrete from.
A desolate place, without any trace
It's only the cold wind I feel
It's me that I spite, as I stand up and fight
The only thing I know for real
There will be bloodshed!

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Oh god wow, it really speaks volumes to just how badly you've fucked up when you're willing to tell people to stop advertising it.

Also to nobody's surprise there's already a popular petition for removing SC5's DRM, but we all know EA would sooner destroy the entire service and take the game with them than to stop punishing paying customers for their investment.

EDIT: moar. Among things:

Quote:

- Amazon has pulled SimCity from sale, noting the server issues
- A petition to remove the game's online requirement has surpassed 30,000 signatories
- SimCity has been given a one-star rating from more than 1,000 customer reviews on Amazon
- EA has insisted it does not ban people for seeking refunds, despite a previous help centre chat log suggesting it did
- The game's European launch is underway, and servers appear stable, despite EA claiming that there are some problems, having initially assured there wouldn't be

I dare say, between Dead Space going tits-up and this, this may be the beginning of the end of EA...

This has got to set EA back by a lot as a huge oversight like this can not go unnoticed by the general public. Wasn't EA rated the worst company in the universe the other day? This kinda solidifies that, no?

Eh, EA's still got more franchises to go through, and they can still excrete Madden.

And then EA, in a stunning display of gall, blames connection issues on their own fucking consumers.
Quote:

In what has to be the most incredible display of PR spin seen in a videogame crisis, an Electronic Arts spokesperson has claimed SimCity's notoriously awful DRM setbacks are a result of the game being just too gosh-darn enjoyable to quit! No, this isn't an Onion article.

"What we saw was that players were having such a good time they didn't want to leave the game, which kept our servers packed and made it difficult for new players to join," explained senior producer Kip Katsarelis on EA's forums.

The remark has already led to SimCity being renamed to SpinCity (thanks to Hollander Cooper!) in celebration of an almost impressive bit of damage control. SimCity is now the game too fun to work, and it's all your fault for wanting to play it so badly.

Amazing.

I think the top comment sums it up quite well:

Don't worry, EA. We'll make sure this doesn't happen next time.
