Oh good, something to remind me how much of a derp EA is just before I'm considering getting another EA game.

Spoiler: click to toggle

Oh well, odds are I'm getting that one used.

I like it when people use the word "gay" in any context other than a homosexual one - it only proves that they have the maturity of a five year old, as if their obsession with shooters didn't already do a good job of pointing that out. It's also pretty amusing that he pointed out Skyrim considering the fact that, y'know, it's set in the bloody medival era and doesn't even have muskets, let alone generic modern firearms.

But just for fun, let's play around with his logic a bit.

game - gun = gay
game + gun = -gay
game + gun + Arem = ???

I uh... I... wow...

Nice going EA. You could've just fucking set up a contract deal with Nerf or something, but no. Real guns. Real fucking guns. Real guns that can be used to kill people. And you're advertising them on a website for a video game that kids play.

You mean the video game with an 18+ rating? And whose fault is that again?

Don't get me wrong here guys, creating a deliberate link between virtual gun games and real life gun sales is still incredibly retarded for completely different reasons, but if you're gonna play a "WON'T SOMEONE THINK OF THE CHILDREN" card then you'd best make sure it's a game they're actually allowed to be playing unsupervised. =V

I think Hedj's idea about making a contract with Nerf or Super Soakers (OR BOTH, OH GOD) would've been way more interesting. Yeah I get it, people who play the game aren't actually children, but they're still not really adults either. I'm guessing this is just EA's way of trying to counter Activision's bundling of military hardware (the NVGs and that bomb robot thingie) with their special editions of CoD.

It took internet backlash and community outrage at the act for them to admit it was wrong. While what they did was smart, it doesn't say much about the way they think.

RUMOUR: EA is up for sale. Providence Equity Partners and KKR are interested.

Another interesting tidbit: according to said article, EA is only worth $4 billion - down 37% from what they were at the start of 2012.

Considering that whole "worst company in the world" (or was it just the US?) thingie that went down a few months back, it makes a lot of sense.

It's not the first time I've heard him make that comparison to be honest, but it still astounds me that he actually believes people are so fucking stupid that they'll fork out any amount of real life money for something as trivial as reloading a fucking digital gun, much less 1 US dollar's worth. It also intrigues me, though, that he's yet to put such a fucking stupid concept into practice yet despite his support of it, as if he's actually aware that his sales will drop below the hundreds of thousands if he tries that bullshit.

I admittedly lol'd at the BGM, though.

We got warning stickers on the internet too, doesn't stop 10 year olds running rampant. A red square with a white number in it is not going to stop children from getting these games, only responsible and educated adults are.

And we don't have a whole lot of those sadly. So as far as I'm concerned, yes, this is a game that kids are allowed to play unsupervised, because there are stupid parents out there who don't pay attention to these things. And often times parents who don't pay attention to the way they care for their child, are the ones that raise children most likely to get unhinged with guns.

So, well, putting wood on the bonfire that is the impossible-to-monitor rating system for games, creates the pretty irresponsible side effect of giving kids another thing that tells them owning real guns is cool. As if school shooters getting vast amounts of international media attention wasn't enough.

Granted, the children issue is more of a side-effect rather than the main problem I have with this gun thing, but it's still worth pointing out considering how many children play shooters online.

What makes you think that wasn't exactly my point? The parents are reponsible for their entire gaming library (they do control their library, right? Or do these kids somehow have an income to draw from?), and dumbing things down at the expense of adults who are legally allowed to purchase and play these games on their own is a pretty dumb mentality to have. It's bad enough that us ozzies won't even have an 18+ rating until early next year thanks to ridiculous scapegoats and soccer mums.

I mean hell, if it's really that big a problem then you guys should probably start making PSAs on it. It intrigues me that we've had ads on smoking damage and drunken behaviour and reckless driving, but for all this fear of impressionable kids playing games clearly not aimed at them it stuns me that nobody's thought of simply making an ad campaign about not letting your kids play games clearly not aimed at them, nevermind the basic reading ability needed to interpret a framed number as a warning not to let your kids play this game that's clearly not aimed at them.
