This is Vassal.

http://www.vassalengine.org/

What is Vassal? It's a virtual table for playing board games. What kind of board games? Mostly complex ones, we don't do chess and checkers around here.

Who are we? Fuck, we don't have a proper group name, but we have proper group members. We're a Skype group of casual board gamers who like to randomly pull out board games and accuse each other of being Cylons.

Our current group includes:
- Myself, the Raging Zephyr, lecher
- Squall, the raging douchebag and esteemed pervert
- Hidden Squire, the team veteran
- Korokage, the token fetish master
- X-Ray Hip, the macabre pervert

Most of us are perverts.

Anyways, we play a lot of various games, both of the team-based and cooperative varieties. We sometimes win, we sometimes lose, we all generally backstab each other. Our game list includes:

Games We Play
NamePlaying TimePlayersDescription
DuneMedium-Long (~3-4 hours)3-6 (Best with more and more)The original 1981 board game based on the science fiction novels. Each player takes the role of a faction leader, with each faction possessing different strengths and weaknesses and subtle playstyle differences. The game is based around intrigue, deception, and alliances to take over three of five fortresses on the surface of Arrakis to claim victory. Easy to learn, a pain to master.
Arkham HorrorLong (~4-6 hours)1-8 (Best with 4-5)A remake of the original Arkham Horror board game, based on H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu mythos. The players join together as a ragtag team of investigators in 1920s Massachusetts in an attempt to shut down the resurrection of an alien creature from beyond before it lays waste to the world. Fully cooperative, very difficult to win.
Small WorldShort-Medium (~1-3 hours)2-5 (Game changes with number of players)Risk set in a fantasy setting. The goal of Small World is to earn gold by holding territories over a specified number of turns with a race and randomly paired trait. When your race grows too weak or stretched out, you can put them in a state of decline and begin conquering the world with a new race. Simple to play with very minute random chance.
Mage KnightLong (~4-6 hours)1-4 (Strategy shifts with number of players)An RPG battle for fame and honor in an alternate dimension. Each player takes on the role of a powerful Mage Knight, a nearly invulnerable dimensional traveler who has taken on the task of conquering other worlds in a matter of days. Players work together to capture cities across randomized lands, as well as battling one another to gain the most honor among fellow Mage Knights in order to level up, gain skills and followers, and gain the highest renown. The game is both a combination board game and deck building game.
PandemicShort (~1/2 hour)1-5A cooperative battle for survival against multiple viral outbreaks across the globe. Players act as researchers in a globe-hopping expedition against a stacked deck. Games tend to swing hard and fast, with nasty sudden losses and uphill battles. Easy to learn.
Shadows over CamelotShort (~1 hour)2-8 (More players gives a higher chance of traitor)The knights of Camelot band together against constant threats in order to save their kingdom. The entire game is a race against the clock as the players delegate tasks to one another as problems pile up. One player might also be a traitor to the cause, working secretly against the team. Difficult, but manageable, with some mechanics that require extra thinking.
Battlestar GalacticaMedium-Long (~3-4 hours)1-6 (Best with four or more)The space-faring Battlestar Galactica is on the run from the robotic Cylon threat invading the galaxy, escaping towards salvation for mankind at the origin of it all, Kobol. However, the Cylons are unpredictable, more than capable of mimicking humanity in order to destroy them...or to save them. Players take roles on the Galactica to protect the ship from attack inside and out, all while rooting out the traitors within their midst. Lots of intrigue and guesswork to keep everyone on their toes.
Red Dragon InnShort (~1/2 hour)2-4 (Best with more)Four adventurers come home with gold lining their pockets and thirst in their throats. Taking on the role of an adventurer, the players battle each other in games of gambling and subterfuge in order to steal each other's gold, all while trying to stave off drunkenness. The last player sober enough to stand with money still in hand wins. Simple card game, simple strategy, lots of flavor.
LegendaryShort (~1/2 hour)1-5 (More players increases difficulty)Marvel's superheroes duke it out with a cadre of villains in a battle for the city. Taking on the roles of SHIELD officers, the players must build up a deck of cards made up of SHIELD agents and superheroes in order to defeat the villainous mastermind attempting to seize control of the city. The game is cooperative to a point where all players share the loss, but only the one player with the most points from saving civilians and defeating villains is the true victor. Simple deck-builder with lots of variable elements to make each game unique.
Cards Against HumanityVariable2-6 (Best with more)Apples to Apples for adults. One person each round takes the role of the Czar, who must decide the winning player of each round. Each player must appease the Czar by playing a card from their hand that goes along with the shared card on the field. Some cards just require you to play a subject or verb from your hand that best matches the card on the field, while others make you complete sentences to create off-beat stories. Simple, crass, and humorous.

Come join us in the Skype chat if you want to play a few rounds. We don't have any sort of scheduling, but we can certainly reserve time for you if you want. We're willing to teach games and learn new ones, as well as willing enough to walk you through the Vassal process of installation of program and modules. Just hit me up on Skype and I'll add you to the group listings.
