 I still haven't fought Good King Moggle Mog XII in Thornmarch from the 2.1 major patch update, so I won't be fighting Shiva anytime soon. I want to cap White Mage first so I'm not solely restricted to tanking roles.

 Patch is up for download, Keiji and Arcana. The full patch notes are also up on the Lodestone.

Here's one thing from the notes: the achievement you get for beating Shiva's hardest -but optional- battle.

The quest to unlock the Akh Afah Amphitheatre is titled "Drop Dead Shiva".

Also, around the same time the game comes back up (about an hour) the optional item shop will go live on the Mog Station. This will allow you to acquire cosmetic items as an additional way to support the FFXIV team.

The launch items are as follows:

-All the seasonal gear from last year's All Saint's Wake (Halloween event)
-Wind-up Yda
-Wind-up Y'shtola
-Wind-up Papalymo
-Sleipnir horn (which grants you Odin's armoured steed as a mount)

However, these items only apply to one character at a time. If you have multiple characters and want them all to have these items, you're gonna have to buy 'em multiple times.

Correction: A single purchase of Sleipnir is for all characters on the service account, while everything else is single purchase only. As a result, Sleipnir is US $24.

 No, all mounts, minons and special/seasonal gear in the game are purely cosmetic. Yoshida stressed multiple times during both the Las vegas and London FanFests that the optional items are just that, optional. His words: "No pay to win."

 The Fantasia potion has been on the Mog Station for ages now, but it's also purchasable in bundles of 3 and 5 as of the opening of the item shop.

 >Patch 2.3 adds The Hunt, droping multiple high level enemies into all the fields, leaving everyone tripping over themselves to earn the highest reward tier from killing them

>Patch 2.4 adds brand new Allagan Tomestones of Poetics, but makes it so only S ranks drop them. Everyone instantly stops giving a shit about The Hunt, to the point that they blatantly insult anyone still in it for whatever reason. like for the in-game achievements

Seriously, SE, if you're gonna make the new thing completely obsolete one major patch later, why the fuck did you even put it in?

 All of the servers effectively broke at the same time. So currently there are instances of whole server-wide disconnections and practically everyone unable to reconnnect. Square Enix has acknowledged the issue and is currently working to detect and resolve the cause.

And just one day before the scheduled maintenance for Patch 2.41, too.
