Here's the most recent Live Q&A session details from the game's producer. Detailing upcoming content like how Chocobo raising will work.

Preliminary Patch Notes for the upcoming Patch 2.3 are now up. Details on main scenario quests, Chronicles of a New Era quests, side quests and chocobo raising are explained in detail.

Still so excited for chocobo raising, which allows you to boost your chocobo beyond the Rank 10 cap. Now they'll cap at Rank 20, with (hopefully) enough Skill Points to max out all three skill trees. Private housing is cool, too.

EDIT: Marauders (axe-wielders) have a skill called Mercy Stroke that unlocks at LV 26. It can only be used when an enemy is below 20%, but if it kills the enemy, you get 20% of your max HP restored. You literally just yell at them when you use it. All I can say is... what.

I really should stream this so you can get a look at how it works or summat. Maybe.

On another note, one of the game stat sites I use, Raptr, has a desktop app that can optimise certain games for you based off of your hardware. So you don't have to deal with it yourself. My optimisation for FFXIV is "Quality," which is the recommended optimisation, which "provides higher visual quality while reducing frames per second," yet despite that, I've still seen the framerate go as high as 92 when there isn't much going on. Still, it goes to show how crappy my PC is, since nearly everything has been set to the lowest possible setting.

But back to 2.3, it releases this coming Tuesday, so the game will be going down for maintenance on the same day at 3 AM GMT, lasting until 11 AM GMT. I think that makes it 1 PM for me. The patch notes will be released in full once the game is made available again.

Posting again. Patch 2.3 happens in 19 hours. Roughly. Servers go down for maintenance in 11 and will be down for about 8 hours. Then again, the dev team is known for overestimating maintenance times, so...

So here's the latest "Letter From the Producer," a thing that Naoki Yoshida, the game's director, does on a regular basis to talk about things. Whether that's with upcoming updates, or random other shit. In this one, he talks about Mob Hunts, or The Hunt, as it's called in the English version.

1. Holy crap, that's a huge monster. That's one of the Elite Marks. It saw Yoshida shortly after he took this screenshot. Yoshida died shortly afterwards.

2. ffs, Yoshi-P (that's his nickname), how much money do you need to have on you? Four hundred million is fucking overkill.

I fail to understand why players try to sell shit for 5,000+ when you can easily get literally the exact same piece of equipment from an NPC vendor for less than 500. Seriously, what the actual fuck, guys?

Interview with Naoki Yoshida, courtesy of Good Game. Quality is pretty terrible, but that's the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's web services for you.

The live stream just ended and the questions that were answered are all here. At the end, Naoki Yoshida, Nobuaki Komoto and the other guy whose name I never got talked about the one year anniversary.

To celebrate, they're unleashing the three collaboration events again (Dragon Quest X, FINAL FANTASY XI and Lightning Returns: FINAL FANTASY XIII) and starting two new campaigns for new players. A free trial will be in place eventually that will allow new players to play the game for free for 14 days, with some restrictions in place. Characters created during this trial period can be linked to a Service Account later on.

There's also the Recruit a Friend campaign, of which should be fairly obvious what it will do. Players that register through said campaign will net themselves and the recruiting player a special bonus which is currently unknown.

On the other hand, the content currently in planning/discussion up to four years away. AKA the first expansion, 3.0, isn't even close to release and they're already talking about what to do for the second one, 4.0.

EDIT:

Quote:

Q54: The magicked stable brooms are too costly at the moment. Can you make it so that we are able to clean the stable with the "magic broom" minion?

A54: We sincerely apologize for the cost of the magicked stable broom as it was much higher than what we expected. We will be adjusting the recipe of the magicked stable broom so that they can be created at a cheaper cost. Additionally, we are considering selling them in NPC shops so that players do not sell them higher than that price.
Have you seen the prices other NPC-sold items go for? Just because they're sold by NPCs hasn't stopped any of them from jacking up the prices to absolutely bullshit levels.

Let's talk about these new things: Free Trial and Recruit a Friend.

First up, the Free Trial. Downloading the Free Trial client and signing up for a free trial account via the FFXIV Mog Station will allow you to play the game for 14 days, free of charge. The following restrictions will be in place:

-8 characters maximum; 1 per World/server.
-Character data will be wiped completely 90 days after the trial period expires.
-Square Enix accounts that have had the full game linked, or have partaken in the beta are ineligible for the free trial.
-Each class caps at level 20; in-game currency (gil) caps at 20,000
-Chat via the /shout, /yell or /tell commands will be unavailable
-No accees to the Market Board or retainers
-No trading with other players
-Linkshells can't be created (but can be joined); unable to join Free Companies
-Duty Finder will be usable (in order to partake in the first three dungeons and first six Guildhests) but Party Finder usage will be restricted. Inviting others to a party is restricted, too. But Free Trial players can recieve and accept party invites.

As for the Recruit a Friend campaign, the rewards are as follows:

- If the "recruited" player signs up for 30 days, both the recruiter and recruitee get a Friendship Circlet item, which boosts all EXP gained by 20% as long as your level is below 25.
- The recruiter also gets an Aetheryte Pendulum item, which allows them to travel to the Aetheryte closest to any "New Adventurers" on their friend list free of charge.

- If the recruitee subscribes for 90 days, the recruiter gets an exclusive "Draught Chocobo," which can carry two players.

Needless to say, I want those items.

Square Enix is having issues with Patch 2.35. Going by Australian Eastern Standard Time (GMT +10) FFXIV went down for maintenance to implement the patch at 2 PM on August 19 and was scheduled to come back online at 8 PM. Japanese servers came back up at 7:30 PM, while EU/NA got a one hour delay to 9 PM due to server tech issues.

Only an hour and a half later from JP coming online and it had to go down again for emergency maintenance at 9 PM. Now the game's expected to be fully playable again at 11 PM.

A real unfortunate clusterfuck, this is.

In about 18 hours (August 27 at 1 AM PDT) the anniversary event "The Rising" kicks off. Which offers wind-up minion versions of Thancred and Minfillia. In the meantime, Square Enix set off yet another free login period a few days ago. This time for a whole week, as opposed to Patch 2.3's free weekend. Still another 4-5 days on that free period, so if you have an inactive FFXIV service account and you want the special event stuff (the FFXI event ends in two days, on the 28th) now's your chance to have some fun.

You'll miss out on the FFXIII and DQX events, though.

Titan. AKA the best Primal fight in the whole game. The music is amazing, too.
