FFS, what is this the third time they've fucked up a gate-opening of this game due to going cheap with servers? |

So, for the two of us here that plays this game (myself and Arcana) Square's unleashing two special collaboration events on the 21st of January. About five days from now. Or something. Both will end on the 3rd of February. These collab events are between Square's other two currently running MMOs, Final Fantasy XI and Dragon Quest X. FFXI event will get you a Shantotto minion, DQX event will net you a golem minion and a weird helmet. Start points are in New Gridania and Ul'dah, Steps of Nald, respectively. Hopefully I'll be home by then, so I don't miss out. I want that Shantotto minion. And no, still no word on a local release of DQX, unfortunately. |

Completed both special quests for my main guy on Ragnarok. Don't think I'll be able to start up on Exodus and complete either, though. So when I do get on there and find Arcana, I won't have Shantotto running around with me D: Also, another event quest is coming in early March/April, for FFXIII. Complete it for a special weapon for the class you turn in with and either Snow's clothes if you're a guy, or Lightning's clothes if you're a girl. |

I am never going to tank in a Duty Finder thing ever again because I am terrible at it. It wasn't until my third dungeon thing that I actually figured out how to pull aggro in this game properly. And that was only because the party I ended up with explained that anything other than the "Shield Toss/Flash" or "Fast Blade/Savage Blade" combos won't actually fucking do anything. And of course the fact that you need to cycle through the enemies every now and then. Too used to dealing with enemies one at a time. Of course, I did awesomely as a tank when it was explained to me... then the battle with Ifrit happened a few quests later. Never going into the Duty Finder as a Gladiator ever again. I just now read through this for some reason, and I did my first Duty Finder at the Pirate part of the main story and my God... I tried, for some stupid reason, my FIRST duty finder with a CONTROLLER when I was use to the keyboard. Fuck me running. It was great for the most part, but for some reason my Xbox 360 controller wouldn't let me actually select an enemy, but instead, kept going back and forth through the party and myself, while I'm desperately mashing the hell out of my D-pad, trying to get it to work, Flashing, and keeping aggro for the most part. I have decided to be a fucking Mage, or Ranger, and fuck that Gladiator shit. Literally, fuck it. I mean it was great, but it was SUPER stressful to know that keeping aggro was such a damn hard job. I think I just need more practice with my controller and then I would probably be fine. Anyways, I'm still waiting on you Luffy and I'm trying to find a new Free Company, because all mine was worried about was getting a house. |

Yea, the Active Help thing about selecting targets on the controller is blatantly wrong. According to the controls, up/down on the d-pad selects enemies, while left/right selects party members. It's actually the opposite. Why Square hasn't fixed that typo is beyond me. But yea, tanking a Duty as either a Gladiator or Marauder is way too stressful. Haukke Manor, which was the most recent dungeon I did, put me off tanking with randoms once and for all. My preference for fashion appeal over functionality in regards to gear had me going through it with a Lv. 15 shield, because the Lv. 30 one is just fucking ugly and the one before that also looked terrible (and had a shitty block rate, to boot). And some other things. In particular, one of the guys in the party I got stuck with got angry at me because I passed on a higher level shield instead of rolling "need" on it. Problem was, I couldn't roll need on it; the game literally wouldn't let me. So I passed, rather than rolling greed. Bleh. Not surprising, really. People are jerknuggets, after all. I've still tanked a few Duties since, but so far only with my sister and a few friends. Almost Lv. 40 as Gladiator, but still using that Lv. 15 shield because damn these shields look terrible I don't want to be staring at them while my character's running about. |

I tried it on the PS4 was disappointed, but then again I'm not into MMOs. The text on the PS4 is microscopic small and there's too many functions. The graphics are nice, but that's the only thing I like about it.At least in the old PSO I played I think you could sort of manually dodge an attack, here it's just luck. |

Only certain types of attacks are dodgeable in FFXIV, aside from that, it's just like every other major MMO (and some RPGs), where your ability to evade attacks is solely dependant on your evasion rating and the enemies' accuracy. Phantasy Star handles the whole thing differently. It's possible to dodge every attack, you (as in you, the player) just need to be fast and/or know the range of the attacks enemies use. And so on and so forth. Aside from that, an MMO having "too many functions" is unfortunately a normal thing and "microscopic text" tends to get even more microscopic as the resolution goes up. |

Have some more terrible screenshots of Luffy sucking at FFXIV. WARNING: Screen stretching ahead! #1 This is my character on the Japanese server, Anima, named T'rhika Tharja. I ended up creating him on this server sometime last year when the EU and NA servers went down for maintenance, but the Japan servers stayed up. I just didn't want to stop :P This was during a tutorial quest where you have to use the chat system to talk to an NPC and, after hearing various stories around the Internet about how Japanese players react to non-Japanese speaking players on their servers, I didn't actually want to work on the quest while other players were around. I don't play this guy very often. Switching Data Centres to get to different servers/Worlds is too much of a hassle for a super lazy fucker like myself xD ![]() Posted this one in the Now Playing topic last night, but fuck it, I'mma post it here too. This is my main character, on Ragnarok, with the obvious name. I tend to spend more time fishing than doing normal questingness. I also learned last night that you can actually sit down while fishing. Also a few days ago that by using L1+SELECT on a PS3 controller or LB+BACK on an Xbox 360 controller, you can actually wipe the HUD completely. Perfect for screenshotting without HUD elements blocking the shot. #2 And some more fishingness, taken today. This game has what are known as Minions, little things (mostly of the living doll sort) that wander around with you. They don't offer any stat boosts and don't assist in combat. They just stand/fly/float there. Shown off here is a Minion of Shantotto, obtained in the limited time FINAL FANTASY XI crossover event quest. And also Merlwyb, the Grand Company leader for the La Noscean Grand Company. She is obtained by having accumlated a total subscription time of 270 days and comes as a pack of three, so which GC Leader is summoned depends on which GC you're allied with. I also have a third character on Exodus, the NA World that Arcana plays on, but I can't link him because he hasn't reached LV. 10 yet and therefore doesn't have a Lodestone page. He's a carbon copy of my Ragnarok guy, though. Name and appearance is exactly the same. Edited by Luffy Foxtrot, May 26 2014, 11:33 AM.
