All servers are now down for 24 hour maintenance. Full patch notes and the patch files should be made available sometime between now and server access being re-enabled. I'd advise checking the launcher every few hours so you can download the patch data beforehand as it will add everything from Heavensward. The entire game, which will be huge. |

So one of the many free features pushed out in patch 3.0 for Heavensward was the ability to change various settings within the duty finder. Before, you had to go in with the exact number of party members required, while having your abilities reduced to the level (or item level) cap of the instance in question. Now, however, you can choose to enter with an "undersized party," which ignores syncing to make up for the lack of party members, or you can force the entire party down to the minimum item level that was required for that instance, which significantly ups the difficulty. So, the story version of The Bowl of Embers? Now easily soloable for shits and giggles. I just gave it a shot as a level 53 warrior. He was dead long before the wipe mechanic happened. And according to a friend who went in as a level 50 white mage day one, said wipe mechanic (Ifrit's iconic Hellfire attack) only did around 1,000 points of damage. A lot of people have taken it as an oppurtunity to quickly run through low level dungeons on their own to get any loot they wanted that they haven't been able to get until now. Certain content, like the Binding Coil of Bahamut, however, is made slightly more difficult without a full party as word is that undersized parties take 20% more damage overall. Extra loot rules have also been added: Greed Only, which (obviously) blocks out the need option on the loot window; and Lootmaster, where the party leader chooses who gets what loot. It's a blast. A bunch of my FC buddies dove into The Navel (Hard) with a 5-man undersized party at the minimum item level required a few days ago. We never managed to shatter Titan's heart, but we came damn close at about 35%. |

This is hella old, but here's a clip we got of our eventual clear of the Final Coil of Bahamut - Turn 4. The very final stage of A Realm Reborn's endgame raid. I'm the bard in the group. And by "we," I mean some of the people in the Free Company I'm in. Naturally, spoilers abound for anyone who may have not actually experienced the instance and don't want to see how it plays out. So something went horribly wrong with my client last night because it's asking for an update that doesn't exist. So I can't play the game on my PC. And I have not yet registered a PS4 version of Heavensward to my PS4 or PS3 so until I get this shit sorted out, I can't play FFXIV properly. So it likely means I'll have to re-install the game for the second time in a year. Last time, Revenant's Toll glitched the fuck out so anytime I walked near two people who are key to the Zodiac Weapon Saga questline, I fell through the world and the only way to save myself was to teleport. So here's to another 50+ hours of patching. |

To celebrate Patch 3.1, Square Enix is running a month long free login campaign. Anyone who has already registered and played the game, but does not currently have an active subscription can play the game for free until the capmaign ends on New Year's Eve. That said, while the campaign will last the whole month, each individual player will only get a maximum of four days from the time you first log in. After that, the game will lock you out at 11:59 PM (GMT) on the fourth day. Also, Patch 3.15 should be dropping in the coming week(s). Judging by the restriction page for reserving Ceremonies of Eternal Bonding, we could see the content by Dec. 16, at the latest. The relic grind shall begin anew. |
