No, the expansion will not include free game time. The bundle of the game that includes both ARR and Heavensward will, though (but loses out on early access to Heavensward.)

Earlier today I cleared the first phase/turn of the Final Coil of Bahamut. AKA part one of what is currently the highest level content in the game. My prize was a pair of earrings.

Holy shit I'm actually raiding.

So you're a total freaking badass in this game now, right? Like, you've done pretty much everything that can be done?

Pretty much. There's still a bit of stuff to do, but I have essentially seen everything.

As fuckawesome as that is, it looks way too elaborate and cinematic to be practical in-game, at all. Still though, they should find some way to add a 2D fighting arena event or something. A game within a game is always a fun thing.

Agree'd, though I doubt they'll throw in a fighting game when they already have PvP. Still, considering Y'Shtola's in the new Dissidia, there's nothing to keep them from adding other FFXIV characters in it. >:3

The smart thing to do would be to have a traditional PvP and a fighting game PvP. :P

The benchmark software for FINAL FANTASY XIV: Heavensward has been officially released.

The included character creation tool can be used to have a custom character feature in the benchmark video, with preset gear choices. You can create an Au Ra character and also use the new hairstyles. Following the theme of Heavensward, the featured character (whether custom or the default Hyuran Midlander male) will be represented as a dragoon. The new tier 3 limit break that is unique to dragoons is also revealed.

All classes/jobs will eventually have a unique limit break at tier 3 (though I think the rest of them will be implemented after Heavensward; patch 3.1 maybe... not 100% certain.) Unique in appearance, but not in effect. Existing limit breaks will be "distributed" among already existing classes (Pugilist/monk gets Final Heaven, etc.)

The above video is used to test how well your PC should be able to run the game using either DirectX 9 or 11. DX9 is what is currently being used in FFXIV, while DX11 will be available as a separate, free client upon Heavensward's release.

My benchmark results

So what does all this mean for someone like you, who's been playing this for a while and who's reached the pinnacle of awesomeness. What stuff do you get right off the bat because you've already reached those benchmarks yourself?

I'm not entirely certain what you mean? The benchmark is literally just a means of gauging how good your system can handle the game (considering you only need a final score of 7,000 to get the Extremely High result, a decent PC can easily handle it; FFXIV isn't very graphically intensive)

If we're talking about in-game content and how to access it, though, that's easy to explain. In order to partake in most of Heavensward's stuff (story, new jobs, new zones, etc.) you need to have completed all of A Realm Reborn's story, up to and including patch 2.55. Other things like the Au Ra simply require purchasing and registering the explansion to your FFXIV service account, while the most minor of shit (limit break changes, etc.) will likely be pushed out in a same-day patch.

Japan's getting a limited edition PS4 because of course they are :c

EDIT: More adventures of Lalafell Luffy Foxtrot!

In terms of raw damage and other factors, the Ironworks Magitek Bow is the third strongest weapon (for bards; second strongest for archers on account that the strongest bow can only be equipped by bards) in the game so far. And it is huge.

More runs of The Final Coil of Bahamut - Turn 1. Got a drop for pugilist/monk: the Dreadwyrm Circlet of Striking. With it equipped, I have a whopping 553 accuracy, which is just short of the amount you would need to guarantee a 100% hit rate in Final Coil 4.

That said, not only am I legitimately raiding now, I'm actually farming the first phase of the Final Coil. That said, Phase 4 of the Second Coil was much harder, due to that holding the final boss of that coil (who was also the final boss of 1.0, to boot). I imagine the difficulty will ramp up as the group I'm in starts pushing on to Final Coil 2 and beyond.
