 There are plenty of exceptions and they seem to be doing fine. I play Hellgate; yes, it's kinda a grindfest, but it's still entertaining.

 Heads up, Patch 2.5 is live. Servers came back up at least an hour and a half ahead of schedule.

My Free Company on Adamantoise should be doing a run of World of Darkness soonish (hopefully with no one to spoil the details of the thing) so I'm considering recording the whole thing. Whether it's a clear or failure. The question is deciding how to record it.

 So there was a bit of new information revealed at PAX East recently. Particularly three separate dates.

March 16, 2015: FINAL FANTASY XIV: Heavensward opens for pre-orders. Three versions of the game will be available: the standard package, the collector's edition and aFINAL FANTASY XIVbundle pack. Said bundle will come with a copy of both A Realm Reborn and Heavensward. Reminder that the physical collector's edition comes with a replica statue of the dragon mount you will obtain during the course of the story.

June 19, 2015: Early Access begins. Those who pre-order any version of Heavensward will recieve access to the game three days before the expansion officially launches.

June 21, 2015: FINAL FANTASY XIV: Heavensward releases.

This means that, after the final update of Patch 2.5 - Before the Fall releases later this month (people are saying about a week after Type-0 HD but I've yet to see an official date) there will be a two month (and a bit) dry period with no major updates.

Anyone excited to get into the new endgame raid, Alexander, will have to wait an extra two weeks after Heavensward. Yoshida and the dev team wants everyone to enjoy the game without feeling pressured to rush through, so they're locking it down for two weeks.

As for the new jobs, Dark Knight (Tank), Machinist (DPS) and Astrologian (Healer), Yoshida has stated that they will not start at level 1 like the current classes. He doesn't want to reveal what level they do start at just yet, but I imagine it'll be somewhere around the 30-50 range, as the current Jobs start at Lv30, too.

And finally, old ass news: The Gold Saucer patch went live late February and it is amazing.

 There's quite a bit to do. Daily and weekly lotteries, Triple Triad (of course,) random minigames that only cost one token to play, frikkin' chocobo racing and even special GOLD Saucer events (called GATEs -Gold Saucer Active Time Events-) that start at 15 and 45 minutes to each Earth hour.

I should consider recording a video of the introductory quest. Just to give you a good look at the thing :D

It took fucking forever, but the thing is now uploaded and ready for viewing. I looked at everything that could be seen. Save for the rest of the GATEs because that would take literally forever.

 SO! Heavensward has been pre-orderable in various regions for almost a week now. Technically. As usual, Square Enix is completely fucking over Australia in regards to the collector's edition. This just off the heels of the HD release of Type-0 and its CE, which Australians were miraculously allowed to purchase.

Currently, the Heavensward collector's edition is only available on the Square Enix online store, with "plans" to give limited stock to retailers "at a later date." This includes Australia and New Zealand. The problem is that while the US and EU can pre-order the thing on the store right now, for ANZ customers there is literally no local option available beyond the digital CE for PC. You want the thing in a box? You either wait for a chance of getting it in local stores (like EB Games) before every single other player snatches up all 50 copies or you pay a premium to import it from overseas. Particularly Japan, which isn't pulling this bullshit, unsurprisingly.

If you don't care for the physical goodies, then good news! You can pre-order the PC digital version (standard, collector's or all-in-one) on the online store right now! Play on PS3 or PS4? Tough shit, good luck getting into Early Access. Even fucking standard editions aren't available for pre-order in the physical capacity.

Naturally, I am fucking infuriated.

 Patch 2.55, otherwise known as Before the Fall Part II, is just a few days away, set to be implemented during the maintenance this Tuesday. The major thing about this is the second half of the 2.5 main scenario, which will conclude the story for A Realm Reborn. After this, there will be no more content updates until Heavensward's release come June 23.

In spoilers below, I'll recap key points in the main scenario that'll play into 2.55's story.

Of course, there are going to be a few gameplay tweaks, too:

-Gold Saucer rewards will be increased. MGP from minigames will be doubled, while higher rank chocobo races will reward greater amounts of EXP for racing birds. Triple Triad NPCs that give out cards as rewards will also have their difficulty adjusted.

-The Final Coil of Bahamut will be added to the Duty Finder, so you won't have to go to the NPC in Northern Thanalan for every attempt of each of the four turns. However, as with the Binding and Second Coils, you'll likely still need a full party before you can queue. At first. Whether the loot lockout will be removed has not yet been confirmed.

-The weekly loot lockout in the World of Darkness will be removed. While it's not currently known, I feel that Encrypted Tomestones, Carbontwine and Carboncoat will be added to the loot list at this point.

Pre-orders (finally) opening in Australia starting from 1PM tomorrow. Online only, exclusively through EB Games. Because reasons.

Also the price of the CE will be $299 Australian, compared to the US' $129.99. Still literally the cheapest option, short of asking an American or European friend to buy the thing and ship it internationally on your behalf.
