Nintendo Direct summaries will now go here. Because I find it hard to decide whether to post 'em in the Wii U or 3DS topic. So yea. Discuss, too.
--17.5.2013--
SEGA Direct/Nintendo Direct (Japan)
Japan's Direct opened up with the logo uickly flipping to "SEGA Direct". So a new full hour of only SEGA stuff? Sweet. (Actually, nope. SEGA Direct was only half of the thing)
-Iwata's hosting with a SEGA Japan employee. First up is what I believe to be the first two Yakuza games remastered for Wii U. They spent nearly 15 minutes talking about the series. Game launches in Japan on August 8.
-The Cave also launches in Japan later this year. Not of much importance.
-Miku Hatsune: Project Mirai 2 launches in Japan for 3DS sometime in Autumn. Again, not much to talk about. The Miku games never get localised. There was an image of full body costumes for Luigi and Miku from somewhere, but not sure where, exactly.
-There's a new Mario & Sonic olympic game for Wii U on the way. 3DS version is also likely. Will be based in Japan for next year's "Sochi" event.SOCHI 2014 WINTER OLYMPICS IN RUSSIA MY BAD. I'm guessing the English title will be something like Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic Games.
-The final part of the SEGA Direct part? A brief as all fuck mention of the next Sonic game, with just one image. Of a planet. Yea. Official reveal at E3, I guess?
-Back to Nintendo stuff. First is LEGO City Undercover. Launches in Japan on July 25 for 5,985 yen. There was a focus on the existing English region Miiverse community.
-Biohazard Revelations: Unveiled Edition. AKA Resident Evil: Revelations for Wii U in Japan. Launches July 23 for 4,990 yen.
-New Super Luigi U. Not sure if it's multiplayer or not, but at the very least, some stages may require to to race Nabbit to the goal post. By the way, his name is Totten in Japan. Available for download June 19 for 2,100 yen. An actual boxed version will be released July 13, for 3,885 yen.
-The Wonderful 101. Nothing at all, but title art and a date. August 24, by the way. No price, yet.
-And we have Pikmin 3 to end. The three new guys have been named, but I missed one of them. You have Arufu, Chaarii and... whatever the third guy's name is. My bad. Collecting fruit looks to be the main focus this time, with your new ship(!) functioning as a juice maker or something. You can have the guys drink the juice. Not sure what it does. Also, GamePad features! The GamePad may have also just gotten an abbreviation (GPAD). But yea, full area map. You will need to walk around to make the map display properly. You know, fog of war and shit. July 13, 5,985 yen.
Nintendo Direct (Europe)
-Iwata opens. There will be another Nintendo Direct broadcasted sometime during E3 in early June.
-Whoops, my mistake. Sochi is a city in Russia. Nothing to do with Japan. My bad. Some new events in the game will include figure skating and slope-style snowboarding. Iwata's talking up the graphics, too. They look really nice. Some events, like curling, will use the GamePad. Dream Events are also in, obviously. One of them is a mixed event, where you switch through various event types mid-event. Like going from skiing to bobsledding. Release details will come at a later time.
-Hello! Nintendo's entered into a worldwide partnership with SEGA on the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. Much like with Bayonetta. As a result, Sonic: Lost World will be exclusive to the Wii U and 3DS. And potentially any other games in the future. At least until SEGA gets back on its feet, financially. More details will be provided prior to E3.
The Lost World
-Game & Wario launches across Europe on June 28. Every minigame within the game will be playable with only the GamePad. And there are 16 of them. There's an Iwata Asks on the game up on Nintendo's site now.
-Resident Evil: Revelations for Wii U now. A new difficulty mode, titled Infernal, adds enemies and items into previously empty areas, in order to make it feel like a different game altogether. Hank and Rachel have also been added into Raid Mode. Off-TV Play is supported, as is the Pro Controller. Kind of a shame that Nintendo hasn't considered using that controller for its own games. Launches in Europe next Friday, the 24th of May.
-New Super Luigi U firmly kicks Mario out of the game completely. So who will take his place in multiplayer? Sorry! Only three players! (Actually, Nabbit takes his place instead, the thieving bastard!) He can't powerup with Super Mushrooms or any items, as he effectively just steals them, but he is also completely invulnerable to an and all enemies. Even a giant, flaming Bullet Bill! Of course, only P2, P3 or P4 can play as Nabbit, so yea. The NSMBU DLC pack will launch on June 20.
-Don't own New Super Mario Bros. U? Don't have an Internet connection? Don't want to download a DLC pack that is probably the same size as the original game because it completely recreates every single level in the original game? Do you still want to play New Super Luigi U? Never fear, Nintendo is here! Those guys completely understand the first two examples (I made up the third one, because that'll be me) and will be releasing a boxed version as a standalone game. With green packaging, to boot! It'll release in Europe on July 26th, but only for a limited time.
Spoiler: click to toggle
-The Wonderful 101 will launch in Europe on August 23. More details to be revealed later. Check out that logo, though!
The Wonderful 101 logo
-Pikmin 3. The three new main characters are Alph, Brittany and Charlie. Charlie is the captain! Their planet is in trouble because they have no more food. I'm hearing Koppai as the planet name. The fruit that you find are converted into juice, while the seeds are stored away to be taken back home. The three characters will need to drink juice in order to survive, in addition to the normal dawn-to-dusk gameplay. The GamePad is represented in-game as a device called the KopPad. This will also be the first game from Nintendo to use the Pro Controller. Wii Remote Plus is also supported. Nice to see that WiiMotion Plus is getting a bigger lineup now. You will also be able to use the Wii Remote in tandem with the GamePad. Launches in Europe on July 26.
-Iwata says farewell. E3's next, guys!
Nintendo Direct (America)
- Mario & Sonic for Sochi 2014. Yay.
- And also, Sonic Lost World. Exclusive to Wii U and 3DS. Same goes for Mario and Sonic and another currently unannounced game.
- Nintendo and SEGA will also be launching some more games from the SEGA Game Gear library on the Nintendo 3DS' Virtual Console some time soon.
- Now over to JC Rodrigo from the Nintendo Treehouse for a moment. The Legend of Zelda Oracle games will be releasing on the eShop on May 30. They will retail for $5.99 each. However, from launch until June 20, the two games will be discounted to $4.99
- Talking about the level editor in Mario & Donkey Kong: Minis on the Move. One of the most popular levels shown had nothing but hammers and Shy Guys. All you do is watch the Mini beat up Shy Guys. And it's got max popularity.
- Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D. May 24
- Animal Crossing: New Leaf. June 9. There's a special video series starting on Nintendo's YouTube channel where the members of the Treehouse talk about the game and discuss how localisation is handled. The second video in the series gets a small preview here. A new puzzle should be available in the Plaza, as well as an AC-themed piece of stationery. That one will probably just be the English version of the previously released JP AC stationery.
- Game & Wario gets a few games demoed. Island looks dangerous. "Good natured competition," my ass! People will be beating each other up, screaming "YOU KNOCKED MY FRONKS OFF THE ISLAND WHY THE FUCK DID YOU DO THAT YOU BASTARD!" And yea, the little things you launch at the island are called Fronks. These guys come up with some fucking weird names. Launches June 23. MSRP is $39.99. You lucky bastards.
- Back to Iwata, now. Resident Evil: Revelations for Wii U. Is this even worth trying? May 21
- New Super Luigi U. Nabbit replaces Mario as a playable character in multiplayer. He can't power up, nor can he take damage from enemies. Launches June 20. Unfortunately, you guys get screwed over with a two month wait on the retail disc version, which launches in America on August 25. Digital price is $19.99 while the disc will carry an MSRP of $29.99.
- The Wonderful 101 launches on September 15. Welp.
- Pikmin 3 now. You can replay previous days to try for a perfect run, or you can retry areas if you make a major stuff up. August 4
- Reggie pops up at the end to drop this bombshell: During the week of E3, the games being demoed there will also be able to be played at the same time by the general public at select Best Buy stores across the United States and Canada. Wanna see if you can get a sneak peek at the new Smash Bros. for Wii U? Keep an eye out for updates from Nintendo of America over the following weeks!
- You lucky bastards. That's it for tonight's Nintendo Direct! I'm goin' to bed.
So Luigi gets an official retail version only in Europe, eh? That...might be a good thing for me, considering I'd probably get it and play through it twice; as DLC and as a standalone. It's cool that Sega and Ninty have teamed up to be badasses, I wonder what this means for the future (though this definitely guarantees a spot for Sega based characters in Smash, I'm sure of it).
EDIT: NOPE, looks like we're getting it standalone too:

Try reading, mang. I did list the standalone in al three things. The problem is that the US gets it two months after the DLC comes out. Everyone else gets it a month later.
I can wait, it'll give me time to finish them as DLC before I get the disc version and finish that. I just really hope they don't add more challenges, because those are fucking hard and annoying to get gold on and I'm still doing them. D:
The disc version is a direct copy of the DLC just in a box. If you intend to buy it, just do so as a collector (hell leave it sealed :v). Even so I'd just pick one or the other personally, I'd feel like I'm just throwing 30 bucks away.
◾Super Mario 3D World: For the first time ever, Nintendo has created a four-player Mario game set in a 3D world. The game, developed by the same team that createdSuper Mario 3D Land for Nintendo 3DS and the Super Mario Galaxy games for Wii, lets up to four players play as Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach and Toad. Each character has his or her own unique characteristics, and people can play cooperatively or competitively. The new cat transformation turns characters into adorable felines that can scratch enemies and even scamper up the flagpole at the end of levels. Clear warp pipes add some new puzzle elements to game play. The game is scheduled to launch this December. ◾Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze: The first Wii U installment in the franchise comes from Retro Studios. The side-scrolling platformer has beautiful HD graphics that show fine details, such as Donkey Kong’s fur. Dixie Kong joins the adventure, which features the Kongs swimming underwater and moving from the foreground to the background. This time, the camera changes perspective on certain levels to enhance the sense of motion and to deliver new experiences. The game is scheduled to launch this November. ◾The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD: The classic Nintendo GameCube game has been enhanced with beautiful HD 1080p graphics. In one change from the original, the Tingle Tuner has been replaced by the Tingle Bottle, which uses the Wii U GamePad controller to post comments about the game to Miiverse. Comments from players wash up on the shores of beaches in the game. Players also have the option to sail faster than they did in the original version. The game is scheduled to launch this October. ◾Mario Kart 8: The newest installment of the gold-standard racing game introduces an anti-gravity feature that has karts racing up walls and clinging to inverted tracks. Elements from previous Mario Kart games have made their return, including gliders and motorbikes. The game will support online multiplayer and will have deep integration with Miiverse. The game is scheduled to launch in spring of 2014. ◾The Wonderful 101: This PlatinumGames original launches Sept. 15. Players take on the role of Wonder-Red, leader of a group of superheroes. Individually they are overpowered by invaders from space. But by working together, they can transform into a fist or blade and unleash massive attacks on their enemy. The polished, over-the-top look and music evoke classic superhero comics and cartoons. ◾Bayonetta 2: Developed by PlatinumGames, the game’s title character has had a makeover that gives her a new hairstyle and costume. Her climactic abilities are more powerful and the action is as intense as ever. The game is scheduled to launch in 2014. ◾A brand-new title developed by MONOLITH SOFTWARE INC.: Monolith Soft, the creative force behind The Xenoblade Chronicles, is creating an open world for players to explore. Players can ride human-shaped robots at certain points in the game, or use the robots to battle enemies in the sky. The game is scheduled to launch in 2014. ◾Wii Party U: Enjoy board games and mini-games on the TV, play familiar tabletop games using the Wii U GamePad controller or transform your living room into a game show floor. No matter what kind of party you’re throwing, Wii Party U offers something for everyone. The game is scheduled to launch this October. ◾Super Smash Bros. for Wii U: The highly anticipated new entry in Nintendo’s popular fighting franchise will arrive for Wii U in 2014. ◾Wii Fit U: Although this game was previously announced to launch in spring or summer this year, it is now scheduled to launch this December.
Nintendo 3DS News ◾Pokémon X and Pokémon Y: The first games in the core Pokémon series to appear on Nintendo 3DS launch worldwide on Oct. 12. The games introduce an 18thPokémon type: Fairy-type Pokémon, and have an upgraded graphical look that is an artistic pinnacle for the franchise. A new feature called Pokémon-Amie lets players create a deeper connection with their Pokémon. Trainers can pet them, feed them and play mini-games with them, which makes their Pokémon more effective in battles. ◾Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS: The hand-held counterpart to the Wii U version will also arrive in 2014.
At the Show
Additional games that were not mentioned in the Nintendo Direct but are playable at E3 include:
Wii U ◾Pikmin 3: This game is in a genre all its own. Players take command of three explorers and a legion of adorable Pikmin in a fight for survival. By employing the unique abilities of these tiny Pikmin creatures, players will solve puzzles, battle dangerous predators and recover food needed to save the explorers’ depleted home planet. The game launches Aug. 4. ◾New Super Luigi U: Luigi takes center stage in his first starring role in a platform adventure. Players can show off their skills as Luigi, complete with his trademark high jump and unique slide, as they experience more than 80 new courses set in the world of New Super Mario Bros. U. For people who already own New Super Mario Bros. U, the new Luigi content launches as downloadable content in the Nintendo eShop on June 20. A stand-alone retail version of the game that does not require the original launches Aug. 25. ◾Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games: The game includes a variety of events from the Winter Games, including bobsleigh, skiing, figure skating pairs and snowboard slopestyle – which will make its Olympic Games debut in Sochi, Russia. Different events might use the Wii Remote Plus controller, Wii U GamePad controller or both. In addition to realistic events, the game also includes Dream Events set in the worlds of Sonic and Mario that let players perform moves not possible in real life. Launch details and timing will be announced at a later date.
Nintendo 3DS ◾The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds: This game takes place after the events of and in the same world as The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. Link can now become a drawing to move along walls. This opens up ways to explore and puzzle elements that give Link access to locations he could not otherwise reach. The game is scheduled to launch this holiday season. ◾Yoshi’s New Island: The third game in the series offers classic Yoshi abilities while introducing new ones, such as giant Mega Eggs that Yoshi can use to mow down obstacles. The game features different worlds in a variety of art styles, including oil, watercolor and pastels. The game is scheduled to launch this holiday season. ◾Mario & Luigi: Dream Team: Mario and Luigi embark on the adventure of their dreams in a hilarious action RPG that combines action in both the real world and inside Luigi’s dreams. The game launches Aug. 11.
I said that this year would be the year of the Wii U for me. I didn't know it would be like this though.
NINTENDO, SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!!

I like it when people use the word "gay" in any context other than a homosexual one - it only proves that they have the maturity of a five year old, as if their obsession with shooters didn't already do a good job of pointing that out. It's also pretty amusing that he pointed out Skyrim considering the fact that, y'know, it's set in the bloody medival era and doesn't even have muskets, let alone generic modern firearms.
But just for fun, let's play around with his logic a bit.
game - gun = gay game + gun = -gay game + gun + Arem = ???

I finally decided to watch the MH4&GYAKUTEN5 Direct, so I'll just cover a few things. Especially considering my lack of Japanese. Regarding Dual Destinies, some of what I mention we might already know.
--2013.5.31--
MH4&GYAKUTEN5 Direct (Japan only)
- Iwata starts off with the obvious; this is only for the upcoming Monster Hunter 4 and Gyakuten Saiban 5, the latter of which is known as Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies in English regions.
- The trailer shown has been linked by Psycho in the respective topic, so I won't dwell much on that. Some extra gameplay was shown afterwards and Edgeworth is indeed back. As a prosecutor. Alongside the new black-and-white guy and the son of the old, baldish man from previous games.
- For anyone interested, the Japanese names of the main characters shown are as follows, Ryuuichi Naruhodou (Phoenix Wright), Housuke Odoroki (Apollo Justice), Kokone Kizuki (Athena Cykes, the new chick), Jin Yuugami (the convicted prosecutor) and Ban Gouzou (new authority figure who was in the witness stand). Edgeworth's last name, as shown in the gameplay after the trailer, is Mitsurugi.
- I think the story of Dual Destinies takes place one year after the events of Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney, which was simply known as Gyakuten Saiban 5. Digital version launched in July on the eShop, retail version follows on July 25 for 5,990 yen with a nice black packaging.
- Iwata talks about MH4 for a bit before handing over to one of the game's producers, Sugimoto from Capcom. There's a nice background behind him with one of them big, winged bastards. Monster Hunter 4 will launch in Japan on September 14 for 5,990 yen. Two limited edition designs launch on the same day, Goa-Magara Black and Isle White. I think that's the name of the last one.
- Some new monsters revealed, one of them being the Goa-Magara. Also, the Gararaajara and the Tetsukabura. In case you forgot, you can also jump now. Yay. New weapons, one of them is a type of polearm or summin' that can give you extra jump height and dodging ability. No idea what the name is because can't read kanji. There's another weapon called the Charge Axe, though. You can charge it up for stronger power and even separate it, giving you a shield.
- Multiplayer is also included. Local and Internet capable. They recorded an interview of a celebrity. Sugimoto closes off with a trailer, which can be downloaded as a 3D version from the eShop on Japanese 3DS'. As usual, lots of shots of the Hunters getting their asses kicked. Always fun seeing that xD

A Chotto Nintendo Directwas just published on Nintendo Japan's YouTube Channel, focusing on upcoming downloadable software for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS.
--2013.7.03--
Chotto Nintendo Direct: Wii U|Nintendo 3DS Daunroodo Sofuto (Japan Only)
- Iwata's digital polygonised head is always a staple of the smaller Directs.
- First up, Denpa Ningen no RPG 3, or The "Denpa" Men. On 3DS again, obviously. New features are visual hindrances in capture mode, as the Denpa Men throw paintballs at you. The player also gains extra capture tools, like a shockwave that stuns all Denpa Men on the screen.
- Other stuff, too. New battle skills; one of the Denpa Men transformed into a fucking dragon. Each Denpa Men also gets their own house/room in the home village. Bigger world, too, it seems.
- House customisation for each Denpa Man. That transformation thingy is actually a result of being able to capture monsters mid battle and then use their attack skills.
- Online or possibly just StreetPass features include a bazaar where you can sell items to other players, as well as a rental service. Also something called the Auto Antennae.
-You can also import your Denpa Men from the previous two games. Releases in Japan on the 7th of August for 1,000 yen. Expect an English release around November, at the earliest. Maybe. That's just a guess I'm making. Something else is happening on the 31st of this month. No idea what. Iwata mentions save data. The first two games will go on sale until the 17th at 9:59 AM. First game is 400 yen, initially at 800. Second game is 500, initially 1,000.
- Chibi Robo runs onto the screen, but Iwata's now talking about Mario & Donkey Kong: MiniMini Carnival, known as Minis on the Move elsewhere. Talking about the level editor. Chibo Robo's trying to get Iwata's attention, I think. MiniMini Carnival gets its Japanese release on the 24th of August, for 1,200 yen. Yea. They still don't have it.
- NOW Iwata's talking about Chibi Robo. The little guy's now digging holes in the room with a shovel. The little guy's model looks 3DS-level, so I guess he's getting a 3DS game. Yep, title is Jissha de Chibi Robo!... I think. Having a bit of trouble making out the first word. The main point that Iwata's driving with this is using the 3DS camera to find real world objects that Chibi Robo will steal and take back to his world. Like a roll of toilet paper. It looks to be a full game, at least. No release date EDIT: Out now, actually. The price is 1,500 yen. There's some information there, but I can't pick it out.
- There's something called the Nostaljunk Contest. Prizes include a Wii U Basic Set with a Nostaljunk Contesnt imprint on the casing, a Chibi Robo T-Shirt and a 1,000 yen prepaid card.
- Flipnote Studio 3D will be launching for free in Japan on August 24. The next set of prepaid cards that tie in with Issho ni Photo: Super Mario will launch in Japan soon. Nokonoko (Koopa) is 1,000 yen, Luigi is 2,000 and Kuppa (Bowser) is 3,000.
- Wii U Network Service thingy now. Some new apps will be made available for Japanese residents, starting from August. YNN is a TV service for watching drama, variety and anime shows. Demae-can is a home delivery service for FOOD. Order food from Demae-can on your Wii U and get it delievered to your house. Goddamn. Demae-can will be available for download next month. Next is Bandai Channel from Bandai Namco Games. Bandai Channel is an on demand streaming service. Off-TV Play will also be available. Bandai Channel will be available in September.
- And a bunch of offers for Japanese guys. Bonus yen for charging their Wii U Nintendo eShop wallet, a reminder about the Nintendo Network Premium thing that comes with each premium set and, to top it off, the digital versions of Pikmin 3, LEGO City Undercover and The Wonderful 101 will 10% cheaper at launch. That closes off the Direct.
Oh, that staff thing you mentioned? It's called the Insect Staff according to the Monster Hunter Wiki, and in addition to what you said it seems like it's also capable of calling in a Neopteran to attack the monster for you, which will then buff you afterward.

New Direct talks about a bunch of stuff including Sonic Lost World, Rayman Legends and new StreetPass features for the 3DS. There's also stuff on the upcoming Layton, Layton VS PW, Dream Team, a fuckton of eShop related stuff, A Link Between Worlds, Wind Waker HD and Animal Crossing.
