I dunno, the sci-fi direction makes sense with what 2 and 3 were doing. (Can't comment on the first game, I didn't play it). As long as the customisation is at least a medium between 2 and 3, AT LEAST, and they don't fuck up what they've got going now, I will be happy with this game. |

First game was a bit closer to GTA than the newer games, it didn't do much outside the standard, but it was still relatively funky. |

The first game was basically a kitschy clone of GTA: San Andreas. The series didn't hit its balls-tripping stride until 2. |

Even as far back as Saints 1 it still stood out to me in comparison to GTA because, to the best of my knowledge, it's the first sandbox game out there that applied ragdoll physics to car-on-pedestrian impacts. It seems like a trivial thing nowadays (especially considering nowadays you can virtually launch people up onto skyscrapers when driving a Vortex full pelt), but believe me the first time I saw somebody roll over the hood I couldn't stop laughing my fuckin' ass off over it. Speaking of cars, that brings up a worrying prospect - now that you can singlehandedly leap the tallest building it's entirely possible they'll face the same problem Crackdown did, in that they simply couldn't come up with a reason for the player to use vehicles anymore if it was anything short of a helicopter or plane. If Saints are doing it right, they'll have a skill where you can take any vehicle and turn it into a Transformer. Or something. Huzzah for technomancy. |
