Hyperkin will unveil the RetroN 4, a console designed to play NES, SNES, Game Boy Advance and Sega Genesis cartridges, March 23 at the Midwest Gaming Classic trade show, according to a press release from the company.

The RetroN 4 will have cartridge slots for each system, two controller ports for each console and include a Bluetooth controller. The console will output video via HDMI and allow users to play both NTSC and PAL cartridges. The RetroN 4's "Perdana" operating system will allow players to select systems, reassign controller buttons and include other features that Hyperkin will announce at the console's public unveiling.

"As this is an ambitious project for Hyperkin, our goal for this system is to combine modern gaming convenience to not only cater to the retro gaming community, but to also introduce a new generation of gamers to the classic games that have shaped the present gaming landscape," said Steven Mar, Hyperkin's executive director.

Hyperkin currently sells the RetroN 3 console (pictured above), which is compatible with NES, SNES, Super Famicom, Sega Genesis and Mega Drive cartridges, includes S-video and composite video output and sells for $51.78 on Amazon.

I want one.

Pretty cool. I'd love something like this considering my old consoles got sold back in the day GEE THANKS A LOT FOR THAT, MOM!

But wait, that means I would have to rebuild my games library for each respective console if I were to jump on this...

I guess that's why I'm having trouble figuring out who the console is made for. Many retro gamers should already have these consoles if they have games for them, and probably appreciate the authentic experience that the original console provides over an imitation. Am I missing something?

I think it's guys like us who, at one point had these consoles but they either stopped working or our moms got rid of them. Amassing a game library is actually not as hard as it sounds; you'll find plenty of stuff going out for real cheap on eBay, or garage sales or somesuch. Hell, I've still got a ton of old games I managed to snag off a friend who just wanted to throw them out.

And here I just replaced all the cables for my Sega Genesis. At least this would give me reason to pick up some NES/SNES game carts someday.

My Genesis and NES are essentially unusable and my SNES is still holding up well. Carts and controllers still in good shape for all systems. This is a great idea though I will hold off on it for a bit if anything.

Actually, thinking back, these consoles were all region locked right? Will this system be able to play carts from any and all regions? Because I actually own 2 NES's; one's American and the other I got from the UK, with games for each one.
